== Meaning ==
The poem's title, CRYPT, is the first clue as to the overall message of the poem- a 'crypt' is defined as a "a stone or concrete chamber used to hold human remains..."; the CRYPT, in this passage, refers to the old world (Aurora).

The first stanza is essentially 8set looking over the time she spent on Terra Aurora. She knew from the start that Aurora would eventually end ("a push forth into the great eternity, where nothing that stayed remains"), but still repeatedly joined, wanting to change the course of server history ("A lonesome CRYPT, I enter. Our world will never be the same")

The next stanza presents a TRAVELLER- alike the CRYPT; fully capitalized to mark significance. The traveler is treated here as other players, friends, enemies, etc. of 8set's throughout their playtime of Aurora; she greets them, but walking to the furthest edge (meaning the end of aurora; the "edge" of its existence), she finds herself unable to recall them or remember them. This is essentially showing how despite meeting hundreds of unique players, making friends/enemies with them, and experiencing the server alongside them, she is left with just herself at the very end regardless.

The third stanza introduces the BLADE, which is a metaphor for power, influence, and strength. 8set expresses that while her early days were spent in fear ("a place I once feared") of stronger opponents (whether in PvP or geopolitically), she now has the "blade" to defeat them (essentially, tools and skills developed over time to combat these opponents). However, as the server slows down and comes to a close, she knows her influence will naturally diminish ("My blade grows dull"). She chooses to let go of her power and influence herself, "sheathing" the blade when it is time to do, instead of holding on frantically. This is moreso reflected in how she entirely quit EMC at the end of Aurora rather than trying to carry influence and power into Nostra.

}}The Battle of Oceanside was a battle fought between the [[Cascadia|Republic of Cascadia]] and RMF-aligned forces including [[Aurora:The Kingdom of Texas|Texas]] and the [[Rocky Mountain Federation]] on July 3-4, 2023, in the ruined town of Oceanside (now Astoria). It is considered to have been the largest conventional battle of the both the Second RMF War and the RMF Wars as a whole. The battle marked the end of the historic city of Oceanside, famously founded by Milgorn123, and the beginning of the uncertainty and backwards development that eventually continued into the town of Copper. and ultimately Astoria. Although the battle is considered to have ended in a stalemate, it is treated as a historic victory amongst many Cascadians.

== Background ==
In March 2023, residents of Cascadia's Great North region seceded from Cascadia to form the Rocky Mountain Federation (or RMF). The movement was led by PvPer [[8set]], and cited their reasons for secession as being boredom with Cascadian politics, a lack of representation for their interests, and general government inefficiency. After the RMF seceded on March 5, 2023, disagreements over Cascadia's CascAID program arose due to the requirement for mayors who took welfare from the system to repay it should they ever leave the nation. The town of Banff refused to pay its CascAID debts, as Cascadian government member Akeboun had robbed Banff the night Rocky_Mountains was founded, and believed that the money taken in this attack was equivalent to what was owed. The movement saw moderate success, with many towns in the Great North seceding to join the RMF's cause. During this time, both sides sent out hunting groups alongside enacting trade embargoes against each other. On March 16, 2023, Cascadia and the RMF signed the Treaty of Banff, ending the First RMF War. In the treaty, the Cascadia agreed to recognize the RMF as a sovereign enclave within Cascadia's territory, and forgive the RMF's CascAID debts, while the RMF became a vassal of [[Portugal (Aurora)|Portugal]], done by RMF leaders as a form of 'protection', whereas Cascadia saw it as a way to keep RMF monitored.

This period of peace came to an end on April 6, 2023, when a Cascadian town named "Prince_George" was founded nearby what was considered RMF territory, sparking debate within the RMF's government on how Cascadian settlements seemed to 'encircle' the capital of Banff. This, alongside continued hostilities from Cascadia towards the RMF despite the Treaty of Banff, caused the RMF to declare war on April 8, beginning the Second RMF War. From the beginning of the war, the RMF saw gradual success from small PvP engagements and increased international support, including from nations such as Texas, [[Aurora:Indochina|Indochina]], and Paraguay. The RMF declared complete independence from Portugal on May 24, 2023, albeit on a peaceful note. On May 30, the RMF successfully claimed the town of Port Orchard (now Bakhmut), after Mayor [[Moxie|Moxiecodone]] deleted it in order for adjacent towns, including [[Seattle (Aurora)|Seattle]] and [[Olympia]], to claim the area. The RMF, which had a greater number of experienced PvPers than Cascadia, repeatedly came out victorious in PvP engagements in both the Port Orchard area and through RMF territory in the Great North through the month of June. By the time of the Battle of Oceanside, the RMF had received support, usually in the form of gold or PvPers, from Indochina, Persia, the [[Aurora:Antarctic Union|Antarctic Union]], the Oriental Force, and Tripolitania.

In early March 2023, Moxie, had become mayor of the historic town of Oceanside, which had originally been founded by [[Milgorn123]] in 2022. It wasn't a secret that Milgorn was uneasy about Moxie being the mayor of Oceanside, especially as she wanted to rebuild the town into an urban city compared to the sea of spruce buildings it had been. But Milgorn was nostalgic for his own town and wanted as much of it preserved as possible which caused drama with Moxie. On May 14, 2023, Moxie was found guilty in Akeboun V. Moxies_Hoe, with Moxie being found in violation of the Anti-Discrimination Law that she had originally proposed, after telling Akeboun to "kill yourself" as Akeboun was a member of the Frontier. Moxie also ran into drama regarding her old town of Yakima. At the end of May, Small_Cat handed over Yakima to Bachinuni. In June Bachinuni completely flattened Yakima with Milgorn wanting to turn it into farms. Yakima was offered to be rebuilt by Bachinuni if Moxie paid for it, however to prevent that Milgorn banned Moxie from Cascadia's main build server at the time. On June 26th with no progress, Yakima was handed to ViolentVampire who gave it to BurlyGator, a random player from Newfoundland, where it then left Cascadia and joined the RMF. As revenge, Moxie decided to delete Oceanside. Near midnight on the night of July 3, Moxie deleted Oceanside, informing Cascadian officials, notably [[Setrus]], that she was deleting the town. Alongside Setrus, she also gave a more subtle notice to 8set, who was still the RMF's primary leader.

== Engagement ==

By 11:18 pm PST on July 3, Cascadian General [[EstiQT]] had created a group chat named OPERATION LNFALL COMMS for coordinating Cascadia's efforts to reclaim Oceanside before the RMF could, designating the plan as Operation LNFALL. Also involved in the coordination of Cascadia's efforts during the battle were President [[WrestlingWithGod]], Secretary of Interior [[EmpressCorgo]], Secretary of State Milgorn123, Secretary of Defense RealLIMPOPO, Representative 4llies, Voidus_X, Sylxgravt, and Setrus. BearHugBuddha and [[TylenolEC]] also participated in the battle. The initial Cascadian plan was to focus on claiming the northern area of Oceanside, which bordered the capital city of Olympia. The plan was to form a new town in the area, named "Seaside", and claim south and east, eventually blocking off the RMF's claiming from the north and east. Although at the time of the battle it was possible to go in and out of claims to avoid being killed during PvP, Esti originally proposed a claiming strategy that avoided PvP entirely, by going underneath the city and claiming from there. While Esti would use this tactic through the course of the battle, the majority of Cascadians would remain on the surface, usually using invisibility potions. Going into the battle, Cascadian commanders did not have high hopes, as from the start of the battle the RMF had 8 people online and 1.5k gold prepared. Milgorn would point out, "The goal is not to win. It's to push them back," setting up the Cascadian goal for the battle to be preventing a major loss rather than achieving a major victory.

Sometime shortly after 1:12 am PST, July 4, the old town of Oceanside officially fell, and both sides began claiming the ruins. Cascadia began claiming from the north, while the RMF began claiming from a prepared siege town, named "Walla Walla", just off the northwest coast of Oceanside. During this stage of the battle, Covenhal, who had been described as "two-faced" by Cascadians during the RMF Wars, would distract North_Paso while WrestlingWithGod and BearHugBuddha claimed chunks. Some Cascadians have described this event as "The redemption of Covenhal". However, the RMF had more gold and players online at the beginning of the battle, allowing them to quickly claim north and block the Seaside push from reaching the sea and pushing south. By 1:15 am PST, the town of Seaside had been completely cut off to its west. Meanwhile, in the southern part of Oceanside, around 1:38 am PST the RMF responded by focusing on claiming south of Oceanside with a second town named walllla wallla. However, by this time, Cascadia had raised more manpower and gold than the RMF had on-hand, and was able to move more quickly. By this point the race to claim the southern half of the former town had also become a PvP engagement, with Cascadian forces generally using harming pots and both sides abusing claim protections to avoid death. It was also around this time that help from the RMF's ally of Texas, primarily for the Texan King North_Paso, arrived in Oceanside.

By 1:35 am PST, both sides were fully focused on claiming the south. Ultimately, thanks to the influx of support coming online to bring in gold and manpower, Cascadian forces managed to outflank the RMF, surrounding the town of walllla wallla and cutting off the RMF push from the north. By 1:44 am PST, Cascadian command had begun planning elsewhere, including defensive claiming in present-day Sullivan Bay and offensive claiming in Haida Gwaii. With the fallen area of Oceanside claimed, the focus on both sides became planning next moves and deciding the fate of their respective parts of the former town. Cascadia would begin planning future claiming of vulnerable areas and the rebuilding of infrastructure connecting to Oceanside, while the RMF began tearing down much of Oceanside's historic district, including, at 2:11 am PST, burning down a large pride flag in northern Oceanside. Around 1:37 am PST, Esti submitted an EMC support ticket reporting Wailla Walla for claimblocking. The report that was accepted by the mod team later that day, leading to Wailla Walla's deletion, and Cascadian control of the entire southern area of Oceanside, around 4:59 am PST A number of RMF players were also warned for proximity grief for their actions during the battle, including _sadpoo, North_Paso, DraftBust, and KillerVortexian. KillerVortexian would be banned for a day due to this being his third warn. These warnings/bans around the same time as Wailla_Walla's deletion for claimblocking are considered the end of the battle.

== Aftermath ==

In the aftermath of the Battle of Oceanside, Oceanside was split in two. The RMF predominately held control of the northern part of the town (with the exception of Seaside), while Cascadia held control of the southern part of the town. Both sides of the split town were left in ruins from its former self, especially on the RMF side, where many historic buildings, and the large pride flag, were burned to the ground. Walla Walla would later be captured and returned to Cascadia in late August 2023, after it was bought by [[KARN4]]. Following the capture of northern Oceanside, the entire area (with the exception of Seaside) would come under the control of the Cascadian town of Copper. Under Copper, the area was rolled back to its original world generation on 3 separate occasions, completely erasing what was left of the original Oceanside. Copper would control the area from September 2023 until Setrus purchased the town and created present-day Astoria on June 8, 2024. Astoria has since become one of the largest and most developed towns in Cascadia, and is home to a local memorial remembering the sacrifices of the battle. It was purposefully placed east of the reconstructed main gate from the original Oceanside, which held significant value during the life of the town and the battle. Ironically, the memorial is located near the heart of what was once RMF-controlled Walla Walla.

The town of Seaside would continue to be owned by Cascadian holders until it finally fell on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023, and was claimed by Wagner forces before Cascadia could find a new mayor to claim the area. The former Seaside would remain under Wagner, Texas, and later Cascadian control until it was deleted on June 23, 2024. The territory was then incorporated into Astoria, reuniting the former territory of Oceanside. Astoria still controls the area today, and it is home to a number of small shops, a Blockbuster, the headquarters of The Astorian newspaper, and the Astoria Police and Fire Department.

Moxie would later regret her deletion of Oceanside, saying "I didn't realize how much they ruined it." After the deletion of Oceanside, she created the nation of Utah in Salt Lake City, which was best known for being mostly trans-women. Utah would join the Sequoia meganation, which was dominated by Rocksthunder's Jefferson. Moxie would remain there for several months, until eventually moving to Jefferson proper to help create the Passage Bay metro just north of [[San Francisco]]. Alongside most of Jefferson, she rejoined Cascadia as a Jeffcadian in November 2023. She has since acted as Secretary of Interior on 3 different occasions, under Presidents Setrus, [[Paper1emur]], [[Farosh_]], Capitanfra, and 4Floppas. From April 20 to May 18, 2024, she served as the 21st [[President of Cascadia]]. This transition from much-hated terrorist and even traitor to mainstream politician and president has been described by political scientists as [[Moxification]].

Views on the Battle of Oceanside amongst Cascadians vary. WrestlingWithGod, who was President at the time of the battle, referred to its significance in its "uniting Cascadia again against the many invading foes." When asked about the legacy of the battle on Cascadia, Milgorn referred to how it "United Cascadians against the RMF, created visible scars from the war which mobilized Cascadians, and provided leverage for future RMF negotiations." Overall, the battle has been viewed by many Cascsadians as symbol of Cascadian perseverance, and remembrance of the battle remains a patriotic tradition to the present day. It has also been noticed that, although many older Cascadians still treat the battle with patriotic respect, many younger Cascadians who joined the nation after the end of the RMF Wars often do not remember it or its impact.
