A chunk is a 16x16 block segment of any given Minecraft world that extends from build limit to the bottom-most layer of bedrock.

Chunks can be viewed by pressing F3 + G.
Chunk claiming
To claim a chunk in EarthMC, a town must be created. Once the town has been created, The player must then deposit

a minimum of 16 gold ingots into the town bank using the command
/t deposit 16
. After, the player must run the command

/t claim
while standing in an unclaimed chunk to claim it.

Gold
Gold is the International currency of EarthMC. Its primary use is to create towns and nations, which quickly made it valuable, which in turn gave it the use of buying things like tools, resources and blocks.

The precious resource can be obtained by voting, or selling items to or taxing those who have the gold.

Signs of Wealth - Worthness of Gold
Rich users will usually decorate with Gold blocks, as a sign of their wealth. Or even make gold armor, tools and apples, to show they have "too much" gold. To get a spectacle on value of gold, 64 diamonds (which can be harvested easily with a good pickaxe) costs 1 gold, a beacon costs 100, and fully maxed amor and tools costs around 200G. Gold is often used with Sign Shops however only if they are enabled. Gold Nuggets can also be used and are used sometimes for cheaper items like cactus and sugarcane which can be easily farmed in mass quantities.

Taxes
Taxes are none existent on EarthMC and rarely implemented by Towns and Nations.

Robbery And Theft
Robbery can be used in many ways, shapes and forms. The most common type is scamming, where a player will refuse to give an item even though the partner payed for it. This is most commonly used with Mending books, which are extremely valuable with the removal of villagers. Others involve trading fairly but then instantly killing the player with pit traps and collecting their items with hoppers, an example of which is Honduras, which dabbles in the trade consistently.

History of Gold
Gold has always played an important role in the international monetary system. Gold ore were first struck on the order of King Croesus of Lydia (an area that is now part of SPQR), around 550 BC (Before Christ). They circulated as currency in many countries before the introduction of paper money. Once paper money was introduced, currencies still maintained an explicit link to gold (the paper being exchangeable for gold on demand). By the late 19th Century, many of the world’s major currencies were fixed to gold at a set price per ounce, under the ‘Gold Standard’ and this persisted in different forms for about one hundred years. To aid further research by scholars, journalists and all those interested in gold’s monetary role, the World Gold Council commissioned a compilation of extracts from key historical documents from 1660 to 1999.

On 30 July 2025, Venetian government took over a Genoan town of Salzburg located in central Austria due to its previous mayor's inactivity ("sniped" the town) and pulled off the biggest offensive of the Venetian-Genoan war so far.

Background
The beginning
Venice and Genoa are in an ongoing conflict since the very beginning of Terra Aurora iteration due to conflict of interest, especially over lands in the northern Italian peninsula. The war is primarily in an idle state with none to a very few PVP skirmishes throughout the entire conflict, and revolves around the Italian peninsula, the Iberian peninsula and the Alps. The war, as it is for the majority of conflicts throughout EarthMC, mainly focuses on territorial dominance. Actions done by both parties include but are not limited to "sniping" towns, bribing & purchasing them or sabotaging (for example, reporting players to the server staff).
Introduction of the overclaim feature
Since the introduction of the overclaim feature on 1 January 2024, Genoa and Venice have been overclaiming each other's towns. On 2 April 2024, nations of Genoa, Aragon, Egypt and Turkey formed the Mediterranean Pact. In the same year, these nations turned against Venice, however it was Venice which particularly overclaimed hostile towns, such as Cairo, Tabarca, (located in north Tunisia) and a few Iberian towns. In 2025, the pact has been unofficially dissolved due to inactivity, therefore Venice managed to end conflicts with former Mediterranean Pact members except of Genoa.
Reinach
Town of Reinach was an enormous town, covering almost the entire Alps. It was founded on 4 February 2024 by Genoa in Liechtenstein, on the premises influenced by Savoie. Over its 17 months of existence, it maintained a stable population of more than 100 players and expanded to 954 chunks. In July 2025, its mayor stvnder became inactive and town's resident count started to drop to the point it reached 4 people. The overclaim feature allows mayors to prevent overclaiming regardless of being over the town's chunk limit by subscribing to the shield which costs a gold ingot per 4 over-limit chunks per day. The shield lapsed in July 2025 due to the mayor’s inactivity.

Offensive
Before the attack, on 13 July, town of Venice overclaimed 21 chunks of east Reinach. Town of Salzburg has been sniped down and renamed to "Alps" but stayed idle. In the first two weeks of August, town of Venice overclaimed 95 chunks but the next day it all has been rolled back. The same day, the town of Alps attacked and continued the invasion alone. By the end of the third week, attackers made it to the town center. On 25 August, Reinach’s founder stvnder transferred leadership to another holder. On 26 August, Auronzo (recently bought German possession) became engaged in the conflict. By the end of August, the very vast majority of the urban area has been occupied.

As of early September, all of the urban area has been overclaimed. On 7 September, Reinach mayor's position was transferred to yet another holder. On 8 September, Reinach's holder deposited 400 gold ingots to town bank and subscribed to the shield, decelerating the offensive. This much gold makes the shield effective for 9 days.

In the first two weeks of August, Reinach lost 29 chunks. The overclaiming pace largely increased in the following weeks. In the third week, the town lost 192 chunks. The average area loss per day since 13 August to 8 September was 25 chunks. The number of occupied chunks totaled 698, which makes it three fourths of the town's area prior to the attack. Total cost of attack came to ~11200 gold ingots.
