Newburn was a town located on the bank of Bristol Bay. The town was notable for being the seat of the Duchy of Aleut and one of the largest towns in the Alaskan Empire. The town was founded on 25 Jul 2019 and was destroyed via inactivity sometime around 2021.

History

Founding

Pre-founding

Player BetaPlain had entered the server on 28 Jun 2019 and trekked across Europe, Asia, and North America before finally reaching his destination for the town. BetaPlain had begun the long process of voting to raise the required 64 gold to start the town. During this period of sparse activity, BetaPlain was killed multiple times.

Prior to the town's founding, BetaPlain made a series of plans in preparation for future expansions to the town.

One of these plans was a district map which consisted of four subdivisions:

• A capital district, to be used for the town hall and later planning for a nation.
• A shopping district, to increase town revenue and prestige.
• A residential district, to house new residents.
• An industrial district, to house underground production facilities.

The town was also planned to become the capital of a new nation, the Republic of Southwest Alaska.

Founding

After enough gold was finally raised, the town of Newburn was created on 25 Jul 2019. BetaPlain was contacted by player _Incarnation of Cascadian Alaska, and an agreement was made to absorb the town into the nation. Cascadian Alaska was chosen due to the inactivity of Yukon at the time.

Early History

Mineshaft

One of the first construction projects of Newburn's existence was the ambitious Newburn Mineshaft. The Mineshaft's plans entailed a one chunk wide hole to Y coordinate 12 for optimal mining purposes, with the walls lined with iron blocks and sea lanterns to illuminate the shaft. The shaft digging finished on [date] with assistance from town member Irre1evancy. The costs to purchase the needed iron blocks urged BetaPlain to scrap further improvements to the shaft, barring a skylight that was later added to increase light within the shaft.

Multiple raids occured during the shaft's construction, one involving the loss of an estimated 75% of materials that were to be used during construction.

First Buildings

One of the first buildings constructed in Newburn was a three story townhouse on Main Street. The building's construction took multiple hours and was constructed entirely by BetaPlain. BetaPlain later gifted the residence to Irre1evancy, one of the town's most influential citizens.

Irre1evancy's townhouse was later replicated down the street to house a new police station.

Yukon Period

Player _Incarnation became inactive sometime around late 2019, urging BetaPlain to find a new nation for the town. The town of Newburn eventually decided to join Yukon, on account of its sudden burst in activity. BetaPlain swiftly cemented the town's influence as one of the only active towns during this period.

Kodiak Rivalry

Shortly after Newburn had joined Yukon, player SgtCartoon founded the town of Kodiak and later founded the nation of Kodiak. BetaPlain envied the prestigious position that SgtCartoon occupied as leader of Kodiak, and the influence he commanded over mainland Alaska. Without a nation to attract consumers, or a profitable business to back his gold reserves, BetaPlain was not able to compete with SgtCartoon.

Early Alaskan Empire Period

Kodiak and Yukon

Shortly following Kodiak's founding, SgtCartoon met with Yukonian leaders to discuss the creation of a new, united Alaskan Empire. Following the agreement's success, Newburn joined the nation of Kodiak because Alaska was now split between the Northern Yukon kingdom and the Southern Kodiak kingdom.

Newburn's Position within the Empire

Newburn's influence gradually grew despite gradual inactivity on the server on BetaPlain's part. BetaPlain secured a powerful position in the Alaskan cabinet.

Aleut Period

The Duchies Idea

Utilizing his position within the Alaskan cabinet, BetaPlain pushed the idea of a Duchies system to further Newburn's influence within the Alaskan Empire and to separate the town from its' unofficial rival, Kodiak. The plan for multiple Duchies headed by powerful Dukes went forward. Newburn became the seat of the Duchy of Aleut (which comes from Aleutian Islands) with BetaPlain as the Duke of Aleut.

Town Expansion

The town began expanding and constructing new buildings when BetaPlain gave plots of land to new residents for free. Irre1evancy's townhouse was remodeled by a resident, and the town went from a few buildings to a multitude of communities. A new town storage center was developed by BetaPlain, which was modeled after Irre1evancy's townhouse on Main Street. A new shopping center began development after possibilities of trade with the outside world opened up via boat and ice travel.

Construction on new ice highways throughout Alaska began and a new ice highway was constructed to connect Newburn to the growing ice highway network that was set up in Alaska. New roads were constructed and the town was connected across the nearby river via bridge by a local Alaskan contractor.

Buildings do not have to have any standards to be shown, literally just wilderness can be shown if the town is just wilderness, but something must be shown.
