Kumamoto (Japanese: 熊本) is a town located in East Asia, on the Japanese archipelago of Kyushu. It was founded by player HenrySP9506 within the first few hours of the server's opening. Kumamoto is one of the earliest towns in East Asia and Japan, and is currently the main base of the Shimazu clan (formerly the Oates clan) under the Great Japanese Shogunate. Kumamoto has two satellite towns, China and Sweden, and plans to directly merge with them in the future.
Kumamoto's real-world inspiration comes from the samurai Shimazu clan, which existed from the Kamakura period until the Meiji Restoration, and from the ancient Japanese Kumamoto Castle. Because the participants are mainly European players in real life, and because of the deep roots of Christianity in Kyushu (Shimabara, the hidden Christians), Christian faith is also mixed into the town's culture.
History
Founding
Kumamoto was founded within the first few hours of the server's opening and is one of the earliest towns to appear in East Asia. Specifically, at 02:53 AM on April 18, 2026, its founder HenrySP9506 led a group that landed on Kyushu, becoming one of the first player groups to pioneer the region.
Early conflicts
On June 8, 2026, at the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War, Kumamoto was attacked by armed forces from the People's Republic of China and Ming. According to HenrySP9506, during the war he recaptured and re-claimed more than 50 chunks from the attackers, including a town named "Kyushu", and successfully defended the Kyushu stronghold.
Geography and territory
Nominally, Kumamoto administers Kumamoto (Higo), southern Ōita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima, while its actual area of control covers most of southern Kyushu.
The town consists of three towns and plans to merge them into one:

All territory was largely defined within weeks after the server opened; since then, remaining plots have continued to be claimed and terrain modified in preparation for future infrastructure.
The area is naturally mountainous, but has mostly been flattened by town construction, intentionally preserving only Mount Aso, a famous mountain on Kyushu.
Population
Kumamoto's population peaked at 250, making it the largest single town in all of East Asia by population.

Kumamoto is jointly discussed and directly governed by the daimyo and hired advisors:

According to the town's plans, Kumamoto will be reformed into a semi-democratic polity, inspired by the daimyo council system of Japan's Sengoku period.
Culture and religion
Language
English is the main language, and Italian is also an important language of the town.
Religion
Christianity is the main faith of Kumamoto. Notably, the fact that the Kyushu daimyo is Christian echoes the deep roots of Christianity in Kyushu (Shimabara, hidden Christians) in real history, forming a historically resonant roleplay and coincidence.
Clans and factions
Kumamoto is the main base of the Oates clan. The clan has now been renamed the Shimazu clan and is one of the larger player groups in the Great Japanese Shogunate.
Economy and construction
Kumamoto currently focuses on economic development, cultural construction, and building.
The town plans to build a traditional Japanese town, including historic minka houses and Kumamoto Castle, with a planned scale of about 300 chunks.
