Pope John Paul III, previously PerseusV, is the current leader of the Holy Catholic Church. He is the first pope to be a member of the Dominican Order and first pope to not have played on Terra Nova.

Perseus was ordained as a priest in August of 2023 in Rome, Papal States. He remained in Italy for his episcopacy, where he served as Bishop of Sicily and later as an titular archbishop in Rome as the Prefecture of the Papal Household. He was created a cardinal on May 16th, 2023, by Pope Clement XV. During his time as cardinal, he served as the Cardinal Secretary of State and oversaw the governance of the Papal States. He was the project manager for the construction of the new St. Peter's Basilica on Terra Aurora.

Following the historic resignation of Pope Pius XIII on September 24th, 2024, a papal conclave elected Perseus to be his successor on the 5th of October. His election came after the longest conclave in the history of the Church on EarthMC, taking two separate rounds of voting over the course of a week. He startchose the name John Paul as his papal name in honor of Pope Saint John Paul II.

Pope John Paul III is widely recognized for his pastoral excellence, his impassioned speeches, and his ability to connect deeply with the faithful. Before his ascension to the papacy, he built a reputation as an advocate for community engagement, organizing numerous events that brought together Christians of all walks of life such as the coronation of the Holy Roman Emperor in May of 2024. A strong proponent of Christian unity, Pope John Paul III has consistently emphasized the importance of bridging divides within the Christian community, making it a central pillar of his young papacy. He views every initiative through the lens of advancing the Church's mission, urging his prelates to set aside all personal differences and tensions for the sake of spreading the truth of God's love to all. Whether through local gatherings in Rome, Church-wide celebrations, or administrative efforts, his leadership has so far been marked by a genuine desire to serve, inspire, and unite the people of God.

Episcopal Elevations

In EarthMC, the Pope holds the unique and exclusive authority to elevate members of the clergy to the rank of bishop or cardinal within the EMC Holy Catholic Church. Through this authority, the Pope ensures that only those deemed worthy and faithful are entrusted with leading ecclesiastical territories and advising the papacy on spiritual and administrative matters within the server.

History

Election

Perseus was elected pope on October 5th, 2024, after eleven days of sede vacante and two days of voting. This was the longest period of sede vacante in the history of the Holy Catholic Church and the first time where the scrutiny of the conclave had failed to reach the necessary votes to elect a new pope. The number of ballots cast by the cardinals has not been made public, but it believed to be well over twenty.

The initial indecision of the College of Cardinals was a cause for concern, with speculation spreading about potential disunity during the week leading up to the second round of voting. However, all doubts dissipated whenever Cardinal Perseus, now Pope John Paul III, stepped out onto the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica and delivered his first papal address to the faithful awaiting in St. Peter's Square. John Paul made his first appearance wearing the white papal cassock accompanied by a red velvet mozzetta.

During his speech, John Paul preached the importance of continued Christian unity, denouncing recent divisions and encouraging his fellow faithful members to embrace their roles as missionaries.

Urbi et Orbi Address

The following is a transcript of Pope John Paul's Urbi et Orbi address delivered on October 5th, 2024, at 3:15 PM in Rome.

"After what everyone could tell was a lengthy and intense deliberation process, it seems my brothers, the cardinals, have decided and elected a bishop of Rome. Today, I would like to address you for the first time as someone who is here not to pretend, but to take your hand and together walk the path of our mission as online evangelizers and pastors. First, I would like to thank you all for being here, for your faith, and for your patience in my brother cardinals and me to make a decision. But before anything else, I would like to take a moment to thank our previous pope, our former pope, our pastor and evangelical champion, our theological expert, Pope Pius XIII. With this being said, I believe that we now face, as a community and as a Church, one single purpose, one challenge that we must overcome if we are to continue moving forward on our mission to evangelize EarthMC—and that is unity, Christian unity. It is through the unity of our Church that, together, we can realize that we must return to our pastoral mission—not as mere replicators of the real Church, but as online evangelizers. We must realize that our efforts in EarthMC are not in vain, that they are not simply acting. It’s a real challenge. It’s a real calling that we, as Christians, have to bring the Gospels to everyone. What better environment to educate than through this game and the opportunity that has been given to us? We must return to our mission as evangelizers. To do this, we must act as living examples—living examples of Christ. My fellow brothers, what we do is being seen by other players who might not be accustomed to the faith, who might not be Christian. It is our responsibility and duty to act morally right, to act in accordance with the values of the Church, to act as the Church preaches in real life. Only then will the server look at us—and they are already looking at us—and truly realize that the only way to the truth and to the light is through Him, through Our Lord. With this being said, going back to the notion that we are not here to replicate, I invite you to realize that our mission is real, our mission has purpose and meaning. What we do, people can see and tell. In that sense, I therefore ask for your real prayers, just as you have my own. I deeply thank you for being here today, for your support, for your love. I invite you today to walk with me together to get the Church back to its pastoral roots. I ask that you pray for me, for the real Church, and for our little community, so that we may touch the hearts of every player on the server, every leader and every player who needs to know that God loves him. I ask for your prayers. Once again, thank you for your time, for your effort, and for everything you have done for the Church. God bless you. We will be meeting each other soon."

Evening Address

On the evening following his election, Pope John Paul III released his second address to the faithful where he emphasized his message delivered on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica and made clear his mission to rid the Church of all division.

"My dearest brothers and sisters in Christ,

Profoundly humbled by the weight of the holy office now entrusted upon me, I address you not as Pontiff but as a fellow pilgrim on this journey of faith, filled with hope for our Church and entrusting our efforts to the Holy Spirit so that He may guide us in wisdom, strength, and courage.

As we commence a new chapter in the history of our community, I invite each of you to renew your commitment to this journey. Let us embrace the teachings of our faith, not as a burden, but as a source of light that guides our steps. We must engage with the world, not in judgment, but in compassion, reaching out to those who feel lost, marginalized, or forgotten. Let us be the hands and feet of Christ in our communities, demonstrating the transformative power of love and service.

Aware of the pressing tides of uncertainty and division we affront, which only seek to divide and demoralize the Body of Christ, I call upon Christendom to once more rise to the task and become the beacon of peace and hope EarthMC desperately needs. Let us put aside our differences then and truly believe in our ability to change the hearts of others. We live in a moment when our voices can be heard around the world. Let us use this privilege to advocate for justice, peace, and the dignity of every human life.

To those who have felt alienated or distanced from the Church, I say: you are welcome here. Our doors are open, our hearts ready to embrace you. I ask for your trust, to take my hand and, together, walk down this path. Let us build a Church that reflects the love of Christ, a Church that is a beacon of hope, a sanctuary of peace, and a home for all. May we move forward with courage, joy, and a renewed spirit, ready to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with Terra Aurora.

October Papal Audience with the Council of Bishops

On 6 October 2024, the day after his election to the papacy, Pope John Paul III held his inaugural papal audience, convening bishops from across Terra Aurora. During this audience held in the recently constructed Sala Regia in Vatican City, the Pontiff emphasized the importance of returning the Church to its evangelical and missionary roots, alongside announcing his decree on canon law reforms.

The Holy Father expressed his discontent with the "factionalism" and politicization of episcopal offices within the Roman Curia, strongly condemning those who "seek high office for their benefit at the expense of the Church." After addressing the bishops and responding to their questions, the Pope concluded the audience by reiterating his desire for a Church where every member embodies the gospel.

First Pontifical Mass

His Holiness celebrated his first pontifical mass on October 13, 2024, which also marked the official opening of the newly completed St. Peter’s Basilica.

Romanian State Visit to Rome

In October 2024, Pope John Paul III hosted King Dirtman and King Chase of Romania at the Apostolic Palace, where they discussed the preservation of Christian faith in Europe. As a gesture of goodwill, he presented them with the "Sword of Saint Michael."

Yesterday, I was honored to receive in Rome the heads of state of several nations including Romania, Russia, France, Germany, Poland, and the Holy Lands. This extraordinary gathering reflects not only the strength of our collective desire to foster peace and unity but also the vital importance of strengthening the bonds of faith that unite us all under the grace of our Lord.

In the spirit of fraternal and brotherly peace, it is my wish to build a future where compassion and understanding reign over division and hatred. In these challenging times for our server, when Terra Aurora often faces tensions of both earthly and spiritual natures, it is through these actions that we, as the people of God, unite in a single choir to declare against the evils that persecute us that we stand in the name of peace, unity, goodwill, and, above all else, Christ; proudly and boldly.

Christmas Call for Unity

In the annual Christmas address customarily delivered by popes on EarthMC, Pope John Paul III emphasized the importance of family and community in all forms and urged the faithful to create "a little Nazareth" in their online communities. He highlighted real global issues facing EarthMC players such as religious persecution and natural disasters, calling for unity and compassion within the EarthMC Christian community.

Declaration of Jubilee Year and Consecration of New Saints

On January 1, 2025, Pope John Paul III declared Jubilee Year 2025, a year of spiritual renewal and pilgrimage, coinciding with the real-world Jubilee proclaimed by Pope Francis. The Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica was opened to mark the event.

Pope John Paul III also took the occasion to consecrate many new EMC saints and formalize the canonization process.

It is with great joy that I announce that this Sunday’s Mass, in addition to being the opening Mass for our great Jubilee on EarthMC, will also be a canonization mass where we ratify the already existing EarthMC Saints, as well as canonize new ones.

In this sacred moment, we will celebrate the examples and virtues of those who have gone before us, who walked the paths of our server with courage, faith, and love, serving as beacons of hope and models of Christ-like living within our EarthMC community. Their deeds, though rooted in the confines of EMC, reflect eternal truths and virtues that transcend all boundaries. We shall recall their contributions—whether through acts of charity, the building of communities, or the inspiration they provided to others in times of trial. Let this celebration not merely be a moment to look back, but a call to each of us to rise to our own challenges and become instruments of peace and goodwill.

Apostolic Visit to Genoa

In January 2025, Pope John Paul III initiated a "Grand Tour" to visit historic cathedrals and holy sites. His first stop was Genoa, where he celebrated Holy Mass at the Cathedral of Amalfi and met with officials from the Genoese government to discuss concerns over Christian worship in the region.

Meeting with Patriarch Archbishop TNTBlake

On 11 January 2025, Pope John Paul III met with Patriarch Archbishop TNTBlake in the Apostolic Palace in Rome to discuss the continued unity between Catholic and Orthodox Christians under the Holy Catholic Church.

Coronation of the Holy Roman Emperor

On 17 January 2025, Pope John Paul III coronated the seventh Holy Roman Emperor, Veyronity, in Rome.

I will coronate the Holy Roman Emperor in a continuation of the precedent set by my predecessor in recognizing this holy alliance as the legitimate body of Christian states meant to defend the faith in Europe. This honor I bestow upon him is not meant to be taken lightly, as it is a further recognition of succession from the times of Terra Nova and the Greater Roman Empire.

May this event bring us closer together as communities and nations in spirit and for the ultimate goal, the faith. I would like to invite all of you, both from the borders of the empire and outside, as a Christian community, to witness this sacred event in Saint Peter's Basilica.

First Encyclical

On 20 January 2025, Pope John Paul III released the first encyclical of his pontificate titled "In Fraternal Unity" where he called for Christians on EarthMC to "profess loudly and boldly that on EarthMC, we remain united as Christians in His Holy Name in order to further evangelize and promulgate His gospel on the server."
