The team mascot was chosen, the bear, after the [[wikipedia:Russian_Bear|Russian bear]], the symbol of Russia, which was formerly a communist state.  An image for the mascot was found online via an images search.  The official team name was chosen as the "Baja Bears," based from the same things as the mascot.
