With this loss of the east and rise of influence, an idea came to mind that would lead to the fall of Soviet Romania in the end. | |||

Founding
Rumelia was founded originally as Outpost Rumelia on the evening of May 19, 2026. The city was based on two major ideas. Firstly, the large population of the soviet union with closeby towns in Moldavia and Odessa. Secondly, the rivers of the Danube and Ialomita provide a very similar terrain to Boston in America, of which initial plans and buildings were based. Initial designs were for the town to be a military outpost with inspiration from the relatively walled city in Shady Sands under the nation of California. The politics of the region at the time were based on a pseudo partition by most other powers. Notable nations that were in Romania are Sicily, Italy, Poland, the PLC, and the Soviet Union, with Italy leading the area in terms of population and amount of towns. This led to what was the surrounded outpost becoming a relatively easy target for raiders from an array of nations.
Rumelia: The Outpost
The first buildings of the town was a canvased white and red tent intended as a military base. The first storage and smelter were built underground, as they stay today. The structure lasted around 10 days while larger construction occurred on what is now the town’s courthouse near the bridge uptown. It was based on the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse, though due to frankly lacking initial skill and claim limits, it was reduced in size and the notable outside garden was brought inside. Initial roadworks were considered rough and based on work done in Moscow. Given the less settled area, the streetlamps and defined edges were replaced with stretching directly into the dirt and lamps on fences. The town was at this time folded into the Moldavian SSR due to the close enough geographical location. The first resident of the town was by the name of Nalynnqt, who was on the server for approximately 15 minutes and left. The first actual settlers were LeightonUk and Bxmb, who’s estates currently occupy the area around the uptown side of the Rumelia Memorial bridge. Both made various contributions at the start, with Bxmb going vacant soon after, then LeightonUk after constructing various farms inland on the peninsula. Of this time period, the first major resident of the town was ToastyHashbrown. A longer time player of the server, he was a strong builder and became the bedrock of the larger construction projects of the nation. The notable one of this time period is the Rumelia Memorial Bridge, though nothing was on the other side of the bridge at this time
Diplomatic contact was made to most towns at this point neighboring the area. This included Contanta, Ajud, Bucharest, and Yambol in Bulgaria. The reactions to Rumelia existence ranged from friendly exchange to kill on sight. The town over this time grew primarily on the southern peninsula, leading to construction of a few shops and the main riverside street. Minor excursions were made north across the new bridge to start work on a naval vessel and the roadwork towards the in construction train station. Progress on the exterior of the current town spawn was quick, while the interior took a larger amount of time, letting the first set of premade housing done. From there, the roadwork was planned there to attempt tighter streets that would be replicated to the modern district further down.
Rumelia: The Town
Around this time, the primary source of revenue of the town was discovered. During shopping trips to National stores, most had massive autobuyers for red sand, which was attempted to be gathered first. In the Colorado hills, quick realization that the combined profit per block and benefits of harvesting underground made terracotta a significantly better option. From there, a massive set of operations slowly started to scale to streamline operations for harvesting, dying, and cooking terracotta. This started as a single person operation, but was soon spread to the rest of the major contributors of the town. This includes the older residents of what was early Rumelia, including previous mentioned Hashbrown and one of the last residents of the early phase, its_a_me_luigi. It also included residents of the 2nd era of the town as it properly grew into a city from a medium sized town: DominusJuncion, Starry, JetWarrior, and Blackhole. The proper downtown of the city was created in response to these needs, leading to the main crossings. A large collective storage due to the sheer increase in wealth, several housing units, a set of underground farms, and the now terracotta exchange were established, with most of the construction split between Dominus and the mayor.
The nation of Carpathia began its rise on May 29th, with a rivaling government in Transylvania known as Romania the day prior. Carpathia and its leader Bluwu would quickly rise to take over as the main power of the region, with most prior Sicilian and Italian towns folding into them. From there, the first Carpathian-Rumelian feud was started.
The Carpathian-Rumelia feuds are a series of diplomatic and minor military disputes that have defined the politics of Carpathia and Rumelia. The first feud happened shortly after its founding the mayor of Bucharest the King of Carpathia made a handshake deal with the Soviets to not push past the Prut River. Rumelia is a violation of this, but was not informed of the deal. The first set of negotiations to try to write in an exception and establish a proper alliance was rejected by the Soviets and Carpathians as both saw each other as violating the agreement, depending on how valid it was considered. Carpathia would soon found 2 towns on the north of the river, which led to the general dissolution of the deal.
From here, the position and status quo generally solidified for the town’s 2nd era. Two large pushes were made for construction at this time in generally parallel. Firstly, the museum was made by Hashbrown, with construction on the inside soon following. This led to larger operations and negotiations for fish, primarily with New Caledonia, which currently supply the aquarium, along with collecting previous Axolotls owned by residents for their tank. From there, the graveyard and outside courtyard were established to cement the western expansion. Afterwhich, the museum’s west wing was put under construction, of which you are currently reading this. The second push was north. This push was primarily led by Dominus. It has included a bank, police station, office complex, and the great skyscraper behind the museum. These created the proper downtown in which many presently occupy apartments. Both of these large expansions cemented the northeastern and direct western borders with Ggff and Manasia. The town grew with these expansions, has rising to 40 residents and took its place as one of the most active towns on the server(consistently 6-10 unique players per day). At this time, the Soviet had several losses in the east. This included the declaration of a independent and hostile Kazakhstan and Iran, along with claims connections failing. With this loss of the east and rise of influence, an idea came to mind that would lead to the fall of Soviet Romania in the end.
Rumelia: The Failed Socialist Republic
Rumelia had previously been the only consistent town within the Romanian SSR, with others such as Sulina, Edrine, and Sigisphora swapping back after using claims. A proposal was put and accepted to create second town across the Danube in exchange for soviet support to keep supporting the region. From this, Moscovia was born. The reaction to the new town across the Danube was not met well, with Manasia being established right on the western border, cutting expansion, alongside Constanta becoming revanchist, blocking off the river, blowing up docks, and restarting raids on the town. This became part of what is known as in Carpathia as the Constanta Crisis, with this description taken directly from the Carpathian wiki:
“One of Carpathia’s most serious internal crises involved the town of Constanța. Despite its name, the settlement was located inland along the Danube rather than at the historical Black Sea location of Constanța. The town was led by RObby6996, also known as Vault-Tec on Discord. During this time, Moscovia fell after getting raided, swapping leaders, then raided again. Istros took over the region, with the bridge now occupying the Danube and the ruins being the last remnant of the Romanian SSR. News was then sent to the Soviet Union, upon which the Rumelians were thrown out of the nation, cementing the new status quo.
Rumelia: The Romanian City
As of present, the city of Rumelia is in this third era of minor regional authority, still in friendly competition with Bucharest and Istros, but instead as under one Kingdom rather than two systems. The old ambitions of aiding to create towns in Romania of the Romanian SSR have been turned to now cementing Carpathian authority instead, funding towns such as Vallia and Fortul del Nord to cement the borders and activity of the nation. Cooperation has now led to a district in the Carpathian shop for Rumelia, collaboration in actions such as western road building and messing with Constanta, and new trade routes opened to Scotland and France for bulk terracotta.
