The early days were not without competition, however. Shortly after the creation of Miami, the Florida team found itself in a head-to-head battle with the rival nation of Sunbelt over the claim to the name of Florida. After several days of gathering resources and working toward the creation of the nation, the efforts of the group finally paid off. Sunbelt came extremely close to securing the name for themselves, but in the end, the battle was won by the Great State of Florida. The First Era began with the opening of Florida's national spawn, Wave Mart. The shop's main products are Haste VIII and potions, while also offering building blocks, concrete, and other supplies. Florida also began creating Haste VIII map art advertisements to advertise Wave Mart throughout the server.

During this time, Florida also formed NASA and began its first attempts at reaching space. xTheWardenx successfully reached space but became stuck and was eventually forced to die to return to Earth. Rredeyejedi assisted Warden during the attempt to get him back. Despite the problems with the mission, Florida successfully established an outpost on the Moon.
Back in Florida, Crisp017 began construction of the NASA Headquarters in the town of Cape Canaveral, which will serve as the main headquarters for Florida's space program.
====Tensions within the South====
Despite the peace established by the Memphis Accords and the Florida Quebec Non-Aggression Pact, relations between Florida and the Quebecois mega-nation grew strained as Quebec pursued an aggressive strategy of expansion across the continent. Rather than confront Florida, Quebec began extending its influence into the southern United States by funding Alabama, hoping to draw it into its sphere and expand its mega-nation's footprint in the region. Note that this is not the first nation it has funded within its mega-nation.
<br> | |||
Instead of talking, Florida was met with insults and threats from Quebecois leadership, specifically AvocadoApache, who then also disbanded the NAP between the nations.
Recognizing the threat this posed to Florida's regional standing, Florida moved to counter the play directly. Bypassing Quebec entirely, Florida opened its own diplomatic channel with Alabama, working to build a relationship independent of Quebec's influence. The effort succeeded, leading to Florida and Alabama forming their own alliance.
The tension with Quebec proved to be a turning point for Florida's foreign policy.

In its aftermath, Florida moved to consolidate its regional alliances, joining the Western Accords with Cuba and further strengthening the ties first established under the Florida Cuba Friendship Pacts.
