Aegea (Union of the Aegean Islands) is a strategic municipality aimed at uniting all the islands in the Aegean Sea, particularly the Dodecanese, under a single flag. This municipality, which seeks to bring together the fragmented island communities under a common political umbrella, was founded on a vision rooted in seafaring, coastal trade, and island culture.

History

Foundation and Initial Expansion Period (10–11 September 2026) 

Aegea was founded by Extheon on the island of Amorgos on 10 September 2026. The initial vision behind the city’s founding was to create a peaceful, isolated and self-contained settlement (base) by uniting just a few small islands. However, on the very day of its founding, the city administration took a strategic decision to incorporate the islands of Keros and Donousa into its borders (claim). Thus, on its very first day, Aegea became a unified entity comprising three islands.

The expansion policy continued unabated the following day. On 11 September, the island of Anafi was annexed and incorporated into Aegea’s territory, and the city’s first citizens were settled in the region to begin establishing a local population.

Capital Influx and the Councillor Era (12 September 2026) 

Just two days after the city’s founding, a significant political and economic development took place that would alter Aegea’s destiny. Resonity (formerly known as HasanHasa), a long-time ally and friend of Extheon, decided to join Aegea by selling the Crimean Khanate, which he governed, to Ukraine in exchange for an agreement.

The large amount of capital that Resonity brings with it upon joining the city sparked the golden age (period of rapid expansion) of Aegea. Thanks to this economic strength, the city significantly expanded its national borders by annexing, in turn, the islands of Astipalea and Nisyros, and the Syrna islets to the south. In recognition of its long-standing friendships and the immense economic contribution it made to the city’s growth, the founding president, Extheon, granted Resonity the position of Councillor, the second most senior post in the administration.

The Purchase of Rhodes (22 September 2026) 

In line with Aegea’s vision of uniting the Aegean islands, Leader Extheon approached UleashdaBarista, the founder of Rhodes, with an offer to sell the island to Aegea.

Following a lengthy sales process, Rhodes was purchased by Resonity on September 22, 2026, and joined Aegea. It became Aegea's largest and most central city.

Due to its size and central location, the island of Rhodes was granted the right to govern itself as a semi-autonomous city-state.

The Structure of the State

Political Status

Aegea is affiliated with the Byzantine nation in matters of foreign policy, whilst retaining the status of a fully independent and autonomous city-state in its internal affairs. The administration adopts a centralised model of a Union of Islands, under which the islands of the Aegean Sea are governed by a shared vision. This structure allows the city to remain an ally of Byzantium in national diplomacy whilst being free to make its own laws within its own territory.

Administration and Decision-Making

The city’s executive body consists of a small, hierarchical yet consultative cabinet, designed to enable swift and effective decision-making. Although the administrative structure appears comprehensive, the final and critical decisions shaping the city’s future are taken only by the Mayor and the small executive team appointed by him (Councillor and Treasurer).

Whilst the executive branch possesses broad powers in decision-making, democratic principles are also present in Aegea’s governance. To ensure political legitimacy and reflect the will of the people, decisions on major issues that directly affect all island residents are reached through referendums (public votes).

Law

Aegea has its own Constitution and laws enacted in accordance with it. The Union provides order through written rules.

New citizens joining the city are directed to islands of strategic importance, as determined by the administration, with the aim of accelerating development. The construction of new settlements and buildings in a manner consistent with the geographical character of the Aegean Sea and its traditional architecture (white and blue tones, stone houses, etc.) is strongly encouraged.

Sea routes, bridges and ice highways facilitating inter-island transport are the city’s common public property. Within the city limits (claims), any development that compromises aesthetics, contravenes planning regulations or is unauthorised is strictly monitored by the city administration, which will intervene where necessary.

There is no system of daily taxes (town tax) imposed on citizens in Aegea. The city’s growth and daily upkeep costs are financed entirely through voluntary donations from administrators and island residents.
