Geography
The island is located in the South East Pacific, just under North Island. The island is said to be a lot more beautiful than the North Island and is mainly covered in snowy mountains in the middle, stretching from the top of the island down to around the Otago region. The island is also covered densely with forests, mainly on the western regions like Tasman and stretches down all throughout the West coast. The East coast and down South however is more flat and has not many forests or mountains covering it so many towns are settled around there like Timaru, Christchurch, Dunedin etc and the biggest stretch of just plain grassland is located at the most Southern part of the island.
Like the North Island, South Island's regions also are determined by the geography of the land and so the regions of South Island are:
- Marlborough
- Nelson
- Tasman
- Canterbury
- West Coast
- Otago
- Southland
