Portugal, officially the Kingdom of Portugal (Portuguese: Reino de Portugal) is a nation located in Western Europe, in the Iberian Peninsula, was officially founded on May 17, 2022 by underrrr. It currently comprises 11 cities, namely Lugo, Porto, Lemos, Leiria, Lisbon, Faro, the Atlantic Isles Azores, Madeira, Canary_Islands, Canaries, and in North Africa Ceuta.

History

Early History (May 5th, 2022- May 17th, 2022)

The Creation of Ceuta

Ceuta is considered the very first Portuguese town in Terra Aurora. During the Great Walk to Europe, moments after the server opened, SpartaFragge managed to raise some gold, enough for a city with a few extra chunks. It was decided to create Ceuta first than any other town in the Iberian Peninsula in order to alleviate tensions under the possible invasion of the region by other foreign nations.

The Lisbon Crisis

While a considerable amount of gold was being obtained for the formation of Lisbon, a group of players that would later found Norway, anticipated for a mere second and created the Portuguese capital. The Portuguese forces also ended up creating a city in the region (currently Leiria) and to the north in Porto. This was a shock to Portugal and therefore an understanding was reached where Portugal would give about 400g in exchange for the town along with the promise that they would not create a town in Portuguese territory again.

With a large part of the gold mined, it only took 2 days to collect the rest and so the deal went ahead.

The piggy bank for the nation

It was from the May 5th onwards that the focus for the next few days was decided: It was the time to create Portugal. So, several Portuguese citizens offered to mine gold for this purpose and after almost 2 weeks of great effort, on May 17, Portugal was fulfilled, along with the first modest version of the national shop.

The Mapart misunderstanding

Like any other nation that demonstrates rapid economic growth, there is always room for misunderstanding, and Portugal was no exception.

After the creation of Portugal, there was an unimaginable success in terms of sales at the national shop, more specifically with Maparts. These were initially bought in other nations and resold in Portugal in order to establish something like a Hub for most Maparts in one single place.

However, other players with the former leaders of Greenland and Ukraine were dissatisfied and considered such an affront to artists as the act of reselling. It was around that time that reports of griefing, alting and even scamming by Portuguese players began to appear, something that has never been proven. They even started an embargo against Portugal, such an act that after mere days most of the nations allegedly involved officially announced both their departure from the embargo and the denial of ever having joined it.

Portugal always struggled to alleviate tensions between the countries involved, with special care with Greenland and Ukraine, which months later would also withdraw from the embargo they founded against Portugal.

Government

Taking into account the Votação 3ª in #referendums, the Portuguese Royal Court was created, started by 5 Peers of the Kingdom consider crucial when it comes to the representation of our population ( Mr_BIack, Sakke4444, Marhbelio , BeyondReturn and batatasmor ). This Royal Court has the function of elaborating and debating laws, as well as other matters of state such as possible treaties and alliances with other Powers. The size of the Royal Court is defined taking into account one fifth of the resident population. Claimants to the Royal Court are appointed by the monarch through recommendation and voting by the Royal Court. Actions for the appointment of new Peers will be carried out on the first Sunday of the end of a period of three (3) months or by real deliberation, starting on June 5, 2022. If the number of seats does not change, new appointments will only occur in case of abdication or withdrawal by any of the Peers of the Kingdom.
