KalKash, officially the Free Town of KalKash, is an independent town in the center of the geographic region generally called Canada. It is small in size and population, and is set in a highly rural and swampy area with few resources. The history of the town and surrounding area is not well defined nor is it well-documented, with even its name's origins not being well understood. One certain thing, though, is that it was once part of the Republic of Cascadia. Aside from this showing in the survival of Cascadian culture in the town, this bit of its history has been passed along orally. It is estimated to have been in a state of abandonment starting sometime in 2024 or early 2025, but has since been reinvigorated by former members who started inhabiting it again in October 2025 and reinstated the town on November 1st.
Etymology
The name KalKash translates to "happiness." There is some debate and confliction with the original naming of the town, with it likely being called "CowCash" or, more likely a similar name, "KowKash." This second spelling is generally agreed upon by historians. Some have also insisted that it was "KalKash" from the beginning. It is not clear if the second K (or C, depending on the spelling) was capitalized in the name prior to abandonment.
History
Pre-Abandonment
KalKash was a part of Cascadia before its abandonment. To the east, it had contact with the city known as Purest Pines, a successful city given its location also in Central-East Canada. KalKash did have moderate gains from being part of Cascadia, having valuable resources such as diamonds and other ores. It also yielded decent crops, with its members travelling all the way to South Asia to obtain sugar cane and grow it locally. Most of the sugar cane farms survived the abandonment and are still harvested to this day. While the town was still fairly functional and civilized, a large cactus farm was made. This was a good investment, which gave the inhospitable Canadian swamp the ability to bear cacti. The government house, located at the west end of the town, contained a bank. Most of the town's affairs were dealt with in that building.
Post-Abandonment
After anywhere from a year to a few months without inhabitants, former resident CallMiiChad joined the server again, noting that the town firstly not longer existed, and that it had fallen to raiders and plunderers. When other members joined back, they still had their diamond armor and tools. Thus, they were ready to enjoy the town again, although it was not an official administrative unit. This backfired heavily, as hunters—players with a yearning for human blood and the theft of their items—began rocking the town. Using potions of invisibility, all of the former highly valued items were lost to the hands of murderers. The residents of KalKash were not shaken by this, but instead worked hard to rebuild the town to prevent such plundering from occurring ever again. They would begin to accumulate swathes of gold as a collective to remake KowKash, meanwhile they debated whether to keep that name or if it was even correct. In the end, everyone agreed on the Soon-to-be Mayor CallMiiChad's proposal to name the town KalKash, given its translation to "happiness." The town square was then reclaimed, under the official name of the "Town of KalKash." Next to be claimed was the house of ANAPHIKISTHEMAN, then the house of mizellland, then the house of the mayor, CallMiiChad. After that, the rest was claimed gradually. On November 8th, 2025, the town was officially renamed as the "Free Town of KalKash." The members took an oath, recognizing the incoming server reset in May of 2026, that they would keep KalKash alive and well in its final months.
Geography
KalKash sits in a highly rural area of Central Canada south of the Hudson bay. The area is often described as swampy, despite it not being officially in a swamp biome. Water sits in almost puddled amounts each time it appears on the ground, with some river-like streams around. The ground is generally flat, with some minor inconsistencies in ground level, but nothing more than a block or two in most cases. Surrounding the town, there are plenty of abandoned structures, once-functioning towns, and even cities that never seemed to get a proper start in civilization attempts.
Law
KalKash has an established judiciary system where people may see their case presented before a court in the Town Hall's right wing. The first criminal case was held on November 10th, 2025. Currently, a law book is still underway to determine how citizens of KalKash should act. The law book will not be anything that stands out from other areas, and will likely be very standard for a book of law.
Economy
Agriculture
KalKash cultivates crops such as wheat, sugar cane, and cacti. These crops are not only grown to ensure survival of its inhabitants, but also serve to contribute to a strengthening economy. The cactus farm has been described as rather impressive, as it is a tall structure made up of mostly smooth stone and glass, and it grants a large crop yield in such an odd environment. Along with crops, KalKash hosts a livestock economy, namely by means of sheep and cattle. Chickens are also cultivated, but they are treated as domestic animals. The agriculture sector sees rapid expansion in KalKash, and serves as a key aspect of its economy.
Mining
Beneath the surface, KalKash has an open mine that contains mid-tier ores, such as iron and lapis lazuli. Coal is plentifully abundant, and aids in the industrialization of the town. Generally, the residents use the vote feature of EarthMC to bring in gold to fund the town.
Buildings and Structures
KalKash features a town hall, mineshaft, and wooden houses made up of spruce and oak for its residents. KalKash continually sees expansions by its members as they work hard to be sure that the town shall never be abandoned again.

Banner
The Banner of KalKash, with the co-official name of the "Golden Dawn Standard," is a vertical tricolor with stripes, from left to right, colored red, green, and light blue, with a yellow daisy decal style in the center of the banner that acts as the Sun. The red symbolizes the blood bond between the residents of KalKash, being more than friends, but a community and family. The green represents the swampy, yet beautiful foliage around the town and the good health of its citizens. The light blue represents the vast sky over Central Canada and thus KalKash, showing that there is no limit to the dreams and accomplishments of KalKashians. The yellow sun represents the light that causes happiness to glisten over KalKash and its inhabitants. The horizontal flag version has the light blue stripe at the top, the green stripe in the middle, and the red stripe at the bottom. The civil flag version does not contain a sun, whether the particular banner is vertical or not.
Judiciary Banner
The Judiciary Banner of KalKash is the same as the regular banner, but with a gray stripe on the left side, representing authority. The light blue on the right side of this version also represents justice, which is the general meaning of the color light blue in the town.
Other Banners
The judge presiding over the Court of KalKash has a banner—named the Judge's Standard—posted above his chair which has a red background, a gray cross, and a light blue outline. The red represents the humanity of the judge, while the gray cross shows the authority he has. The light blue outline signifies the justice that comes from his thoughtful discernments. The mayor, CallMiiChad, uses a personal banner known as the Mayoral Banner, featuring a white background with a red cross, along with two black stripes; one on the top, and one on the bottom. The black stripes overlay the cross, leaving a white box that mirrors the flag of England in the center of a black space.
Town Song
(Main article: "KalKashia, Live Happily!")
The official town song of KalKash is "'KalKashia, Live Happily!'" It is the same as an anthem in all ways but name. The tune is the same as Married to a Mermaid, but with different lyrics based off the song "Rule, Britannia!" to add to the pride of KalKashian citizens and to show that pride to the world. The lyrics go as follows:
| When KalKash first, in November's gaze
Arose from out the swampy main; Arose, arose, arose, from out the swampy main. This was the holler, the holler of the land, And cheerful KalKashians sang this strain: |
|
"Live, KalKashia! KalKashia, live happily! "KalKashia always, always, always will be free." |
|
The nations, ever so envious of thee, Must, in their turns, to bitterness fall, Must, in their turns, their turns, to bitterness fall; While thou shalt flourish, shalt flourish great and free, The anger and envy of them all. |
|
"Live, KalKashia! KalKashia, live happily! "KalKashia always, always, always will be free." |
|
Still more joyous shalt thou rise, More delightful, from each foreign sneer, More delightful, delightful, from each foreign sneer; As the loud blast, the blast that tears the skies, Serves but to root thy native spruce. |
|
"Live, KalKashia! KalKashia, live happily! "KalKashia always, always, always will be free." |
|
Thee haughty tyrants never shall tame: All their attempts to tear thee down, All their attempts, attempts to tear thee down, Will but arouse thy generous flame; But work their woe, and thy renown. |
|
"Live, KalKashia! KalKashia, live happily! "KalKashia always, always, always will be free." |
|
To thee belongs the rural health; Thy city shall with commerce shine, Thy city, city shall with commerce shine: All thine shall be the agricultural wealth, And every shore it circles combine. |
|
"Live, KalKashia! KalKashia, live happily! "KalKashia always, always, always will be free." |
|
The Muses, still with freedom found, Shall to thy happy smithery repair, Shall to thy happy, happy smithery repair; Joyful Town! With matchless glee crown'd, And humanly hearts to guard the fair. |
|
"Live, KalKashia! KalKashia, live happily! "KalKashia always, always, always will be free." |
The song was adopted and signed into an official status by Mayor CallMiiChad on December 2nd, 2025, the day it was created. Since its inception, it has had one recording.
