=== FAQ ===
# '''Fortify towns''' - Walls are important. During sieges they help stop enemies from infiltrating towns and killing residents.
<nowiki>---------------</nowiki>
# '''Fortify or abandon outposts''' - Outposts are important. Towns can be besieged anywhere they have claimed territory.  Make provisions to defend valuable outposts, and abandon the rest.

# '''Assign combat ranks''' - Find residents who can be trusted to fight for your town or nation, and assign them military ranks.
Q. My town is peaceful and does not wish to fight. What can I do ?
# '''Make friends & allies''' - Diplomacy is critical.  As a mayor, diplomacy can be the difference between your town remaining independant, within a friendly nation, or occupied by an expansionistic empire. As a king, diplomacy can be the difference between your nation succeeding, and its annihilation.

# '''Do not remove guards while they are near siege'''s - As an under-siege mayor, if one of your guards (online or offline) is near the siege banner, ensure they do not get removed as a battle participant (e.g. deranked). If this happens, a siege-point penalty will be applied.
A. The best option is to toggle your town to peaceful using "/t toggle peaceful". After a few days your town will become immune to sieges + taxes. You will get your own public T spawn, and your nation choice will be restricted (and may change automatically depending on the geopolitical situation in your local area),
# '''Do not remove soldiers while they are near sieges''' - As an attacking/defending king, if one of your soldiers (online or offline) is near a siege banner, ensure they do not get removed as a battle participant (e.g. deranked). If this happens, a siege-point penalty will be applied.

# '''Make a plan B (Mayor)''' - As mayor, a siege defeat is rarely a cause for abandoning your town. Your town may lose some money to plunder or be temporarily occupied, but your buildings, items, and townspeople are the same, and still need your wise leadership to prosper.
<nowiki>---------------</nowiki>
# '''Make a plan B (King)''' - As king, defeat in battle might be only a temporary setback. If a town has fallen to the enemy, rally your soldiers and allies to defend your remaining towns. If your capital is about to fall, evacuate to a (new or existing) loyal town and declare it the capital (king will change). If your nation does fall, use the nation-cost-refund (80% by default) to build strength so that you can influence world affairs more successfully on your next attempt.

Q. My entire nation is peaceful and does not wish to fight, but rather wants to continue operating as we always did, using the Towny-Nation feature as something like a 'social club' or 'trading company'. What can I do ?

A. On Towny main-server this would likely be supported by some sort of total immunity scheme (details to be confirmed later). On Beta this playstyle is not supported.

Q. Everyone is block-glitching these days. Won't this make walls useless if the system is deployed on towny-main ?

A. No it won't. Walls will obstruct enemy movements and help you control the battlefield, while also giving you an elevated firing position (for bows).

Q. How do I use military ranks ?

A.

1. Only give military ranks to players who can be trusted

2. Soldiers: Can get banner control, and don't lose items on death

3. Captains: Same, but with a leadership aura

4. Generals: Same, but they can use siege management actions: attack/abandon/invade/plunder

5. Warning:  Do not remove ranks from a soldier while they are in a siege zone (or even logged out in a siege zone).

Q. My nation is about to be destroyed, because my last remaining town will be captured. What do I do?

A.

Option 1 - Create  a 'refugee town', and flee there with loyal soldiers

Option 2 - Accept defeat, take the 100% (for now) nation setup cost refund, and plan your next geopolitical move (maybe revolt of some sort...)[[Category:Guide]]
