Mackenzie (Previously known as NWT), was a nation located in Western Canada, Primarily Northwest Canada. The capital of Mackenzie was HayRiver. The nation was founded on October 2nd, 2024 after seceding peacefully from Cascadia, and was dissolved in December 2024.

Geography

Mackenzie was located in northwestern Canada, with some territories dipping into British Columbia. To the south are the nations Cascadia and BC, To the west is the nation of Alaska, and to the east is the nation of Wollaston. The nation features giant landscapes of mountains to the west and more warm, wet regions to the east. The nation can be divided into two political districts, the east and the west.

Eastern District

Eastern Mackenzie featured the capital, HayRiver. Many of the towns located in this district are founded on the bank of the Great Slave Lake. It is a popular destination for towns for its status as a solid fishing spot. This district also includes part of the Great Bear Lake.

Western District

Western Mackenzie is a highly populated region, Featuring large towns such as Castle John, Fort Nina, and Delta. Castle John, the most populated town in NWT, is in this region. The region is known for heavy recruiting, bringing in many town owners and dedicated community members to the nation.

Economy

Mackenzie's economy follows communist economic principles, although participating in a pseudo-capitalist system as required by the shop system. They achieve this by having a robust welfare system, entitling every town to 100 gold after 2 weeks. Their economy relies on fishing and their nation shop, both of which are new and rapidly growing industries within the nation. Currently, their economy is quite small. There are no major international stores located in Mackenzie. Their are a large array of local shops around different towns, although there is not much of a market for embassy plots. A lot of monetary resources come from mining in the western portions of the country, while fishing in the east.

Government

The government consisted of the representatives, elected every month, that then elect two of themselves to become the prime minister and the speaker of the house for that month. The prime minister then selects half the number of the representatives, minus one, to be their cabinet ministers for that month. The prime minister finally decides what role the CM will fulfill; Economy, defense, interior, and others are popular picks. The Speaker of the House assembled the representatives throughout the month to discuss a topic and come to a consensus on how the government should proceed on that topic. Ultimately however, as stated under Article 1 Section VII of the Mackenzie Constitution, all decisions made by the democratically elected government could be vetoed at any time by either of the founders, and founders had special executive powers to hold their own legislative assemblies without the presence of the Speaker of the House. This undermined the democratic system and arguably led to the political turbulence that toppled Mackenzie.

History

Pre-History

Mackenzie was originally the territory under the jurisdiction of the Cascadian Communist Party (CCP), (traditionally the former far north of Cascadia), which advocated for Cascadian politics to take a more left-wing turn economically, increasing welfare and extending benefits for citizens and mayors.

Foundation

Mackenzie seceded peacefully on good terms with Cascadia on October 2nd, 2024. At this time, it was known as NWT. For the next couple of weeks, NWT acted peacefully, signing multiple non-aggression pacts with other nations. These included Cascadia, Vermont, and Ontario. Relations were good, and NWT quickly gained new towns and citizens across northwestern Canada.

Cascadian War

Tensions arose when Cascadia created the town "Ythan_Adevir" on the road east of Castle John, the most populated city in NWT. The NWT government demanded the town be moved further south away from a road that NWT claimed was to be used for transport by NWT citizens, and as a place for their towns to be founded upon, essentially claiming the open land. The Cascadian settlers declined this offer, which caused NWT to declare war with Cascadia to ensure the safety of their claims. Since the war began Cascadia founded multiple townships around NWT territorial claims including Error and Fort_Toto directly between Castle John and HayRiver. Due to this war, Prime Minister RuffWoof resigned, leaving Beaver_Lake to Cascadia, at which point the founders were forced to run the country until a worthy candidate was selected. Eventually, TheSnowic was elected as Prime Minister for the month of November. After this, NWT briefly joined the Californian PSA meganation before later leaving and joining the Arctic Pact alliance due to right-wing ideology being heavily promoted in the nation.

Pechorsk_Colter Defection

The owner of Pechorsk_Colter, a user by the name of _haines, was removed from NWT for treason after the founders accused him of being a Cascadian spy. This resulted in the battle of Pechorsk_Colter.

2.1 Debacle

After user Limao_mao reported NWT as a duplicate of another smaller nation by the name of N.W.T, NWT was forced to be renamed and rebranded. They wanted their nation to be named Mackenzie for simplicity, however staff forced them to be named the Mackenzie Basin. Later, they renamed to simply Mackenzie.

Downfall of the Empire

While Mackenzie may have attempted to present itself as a democracy, its constitution allowed the founders (specifically the nation's owner xStoicx) ultimate executive power. The nation entered a political loop in its final months, electing anti-war, democratic Prime Ministers like RuffWoof and TheSnowic, both eventually resigning from their positions and withdrawing their towns from Mackenzie when threatened with expulsion for not following the founders orders. As the nation fell to infighting between the Western Provinces and the capital, xStoicx proclaimed himself the Supreme King of Mackenzie, seizing all power over the country. As the Western provinces fled the nation to join their western neighbour, The Kingdom of Alaska, Cascadian troops pushed across the Beaver Lake border, overclaiming HayRiver in a brutal display of Mackenzie's lost power.

Aftermath

Perhaps obsessed with the north and the west, xStoicx sold HayRiver to The Kingdom of Alaska, disbanded the nation of Mackenzie, and moved as far northwest as he could. He went on to lead the town of ChillVille on the northern shores of the Kingdom of Alaska. xHydre and the other mayors of the Western Province appear to have accepted their surrounding Cascadian neighbours as The Kingdom of Alaska signed the Treaty of Juneau shortly after they joined, allowing the two nations to share the land, with both countries being members of the Organization of Free Nations (OFN). Other towns further south elected to join the nation of BC. The towns of the Eastern Provinces were either disbanded as citizens fled, or joined surrounding nations such as The Kingdom of Wollaston.
