Edessa (Ancient Greek: Ἔδεσσα; Arabic: الرها ar-Ruhā; Turkish: Şanlıurfa; Kurdish: Riha) is a town in Upper Mesopotamia, it is in the eastern part of Byzantium, part of the Levantine province. Edessa is built next to the Euphrates River. Its climate features extremely hot, dry summers and cool, moist winters.
