First Hamlet
The city of Artvin is a settlement area established between the coast and high mountains. The route of the first people passed through this region and soon the first settlements began to appear here. The first hamlet was established in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea Mountains shortly after the emergence of humans. The first people who held on to this region for a while migrated to another region.
Founding of the City
While the establishment and dissolution of the first hamlet was left behind, the settlers who came from the Caucasus soon settled on the coast, unlike where the first hamlet was located. The leader of these settlers was a lord named Ferhat. His followers gathered around him and built centers and public houses in a short time. People were living a quiet and happy life in this region.
Development of the City
As years passed, the population increased and the surface area of the cities increased unpredictably, and the greedy governors' desire to seize the land, arising from the lack of resources, led to wars between cities. The wars made the bad situation worse.

Battle of Artvin-Kutaisi
In the war that took place between the Artvin forces under the command of Artvin Governor Ferhat and the forces of the Lord of Kutaisi in the canyon opening to the Georgian plains between Artvin and Batumi, the Artvin forces were the ones who suffered the most and the development of the city was badly affected. Governor Ferhat was injured in this war and handed over the administration to one of his comrades.
Battle of Artvin-Trebizond
The Governor of Trebizond, who took advantage of the fact that the Artvin forces were very weak, gathered the forces in a short time and entered the Artvin territory along the coastline, since Trebizond province, which was included in the Byzantine territory, was the eastern border center. The settlers, who could no longer endure these wars, agreed to leave the city and some accepted to be under the control of the enemy after the death of their leader Ferhat. As a result, the city of Artvin, which was in the region and existed for many years, was dissolved and its lands were transferred to the Byzantine Trebizond province.
