France, officially the French Empire (locally l'Empire français), is a nation in Terra Nostra, located in Western Europe, founded on April 17, 2026. Since Pelle Nomme's exile on May 11, 2026, the current Emperor is Krimb.

History

True Beginning (January 2026)

France's Discord was created on January 1st, 2026. It is currently unknown when planning for the nation first began.

Pre-Nostra

France was planned before Nostra's release, with Pelle_Nomme serving as the project's head. While the precise details surrounding the origins of the France project remain largely unknown, the first large-scale advertisements for the project appear to have begun circulating by mid-March. The advertisements were often accompanied by the well-known reveal video, depicting the construction of the Eiffel Tower and some early contributors. It was through this large advertising campaign that France grew exponentially in numbers, becoming regarded as one of the more well-established pre-planned nations of the time, in part due to its member count. This growth promoted more ambitious planning for the project which culminated in the design of various towns, diplomatic efforts, etc.

Nostra Release

Upon Nostra's release, claiming the town name Paris was made a top priority. While nobody online on release day had actually spawned in France, those nearby rushed towards it while most others collected gold. Despite an advantage in numbers, France did not succeed in claiming the town name Paris, as it was instead claimed by the first town on the server, formed by a member of a group associated with Egypt. As a result, when the projects members reached France and created the capital, they opted for the name Versailles. Versailles consequently became the center of the entire project, with every member having joined or teleported to it to donate gold, items, and other resources, or to assist with building. Despite France's vigorous collection of gold, they were ultimately outpaced by another group in New Caledonia, who claimed the France nation name. Despite experiencing two major obstacles to the project's goals, the collection of gold continued. Later, a hostile initiative against Egypt began. On the second day of Nostra, the then-nation of France was renamed, allowing the project to finally achieve its goal of claiming the name. However, members were dissatisfied that the nation had not been created on the first day as a result.

Pelle_Nomme's Resignation

On May 11th, Pelle_Nomme relinquished his position as Emperor, transferring it to Krimb, following his announced departure from EMC after being removed as a moderator from the staff team.

Versailles-Paris Conflict

The Versailles-Paris Conflict was a dispute over territory between the towns of Versailles and Paris that stemmed from France's desire to reclaim the name of its real-life capital. Several attempts were made by the French through both staff member appeals and claiming (particularly through a large expansion encompassing Île-De-France) in order to obtain the right to the name. Eventually, these efforts halted on May 12th when the title was given to France and the then-Paris was consequently renamed to East Paris. However, due to current ongoing threats of overclaim and territorial disputes, there remains tension.

Expansion of Strasbourg

The town of Strasbourg (now named France) was created on release day. The town remained at a relatively normal size (in both residents and townblocks) for a long period during early access, however, its mayor, Joigrama, remained dedicated, accumulating over 20,000 gold between then and late May. With an accompanying large recruiting campaign, the town quickly surpassed Paris, becoming the largest in France.

The first session of the House of Peers

The first session of the House of Peers is the first large, organised governmental assembly, scheduled to take place on May 31st.

Government

As dictated by the French Constitution, the Emperor of France appoints a Prime Minister to represent the nation’s main political factions, who are responsible for the formation of a government.

The Prime Minister is responsible for formulating national policy and holds executive power. He is therefore accountable to the Emperor for the proper governance of the country, and the Emperor may dismiss him if necessary.[1]

Currently, there is no legal framework governing specific ministries. The formation of ministries is therefore left to the discretion of the Prime Minister.

Legislative Branch

The Chambre des Pairs constitutes the national legislature and holds legislative power. The mayors of cities that are members of the nation each receive one seat, with one additional seat allocated for every 50 chunks, up to a maximum of 10 representatives per municipality. The capital receives 10 seats, regardless of its area.

The Chambre des Pairs meets in Parliament. It proposes, drafts, and votes on laws, reforms, and projects. Each law must be adopted by a simple majority of the votes cast. The Chambre des Pairs also has the power to amend the constitution by a three-quarters majority vote, but the Emperor of the French may veto such amendments.[2]
