Origins
Sortavala (Rus. Сортавала / Сердоболь) is a Russian town located in Ladoga Karelia along the Northern Shore of Lake Ladoga and both banks of the Sorty River. It is the largest settlement in the Karelian region by land and population and is the oldest founded 4/May/24 by doytnr not too far from the town of Kakisalmi, which was the first Russo-Karelian town founded days prior but has since fell.
The town is placed by the IRL location of Sortavala, and acts as a mid-point between the Baltic-Ladoga to deeper into Karelia.
Infustructure
Sortavala is defined by its spruce-stone embankments across her urban core, alongside her oxidized copper roofs which give the city a unique style.
The Town consists of 4 distinct bodies separated by water, being:
- Central Sortavala: The oldest and origin of the town which has became an island of sorts with the construction of a canal west of it, meeting with the Sorty and Ladoga.
- Sortyvostok: The lands of the town east of the Sorty
- Sortyzapod: The lands of the town west of the Canals separating Central Sortavala from the rest of the land west of the Sorty.
- Sortyostrov: The formerly 2, now a single merged island incorporated in August to the Sortavala Urban core, located south of the centre on Lake Ladoga.
