Moon
The Moon or Terra Luna , is the only known natural satellite of Terra Nostra. For much of history it could only be observed from the surface of Nostra, with its physical composition remaining unknown.
On 30 August 2026, as part of the EarthMC 10-year anniversary celebrations, the first expeditions to the Moon became possible following the introduction of the Moon Update. The Moon is now accessible via rockets and space shuttles, allowing settlers to establish outposts and extract resources from beneath its surface.
The Moon is approximately 35,000 blocks wide and 17,500 blocks long, with its scale based proportionally on the real Moon in relation to the EarthMC map. Its terrain includes extensive flat regions, dense craters, and large pits, mostly comprised of rock materials such as stone and gravel. The Moon possesses reduced gravity, an atmosphere lacking oxygen, hostile mobs, as well as higher amounts of mineral resources, mainly gold.
History
Early exploration proposals
Prior to the Moon Update, no humans had stepped on the Moon and no known artificial satellite had been sent into its vicinity. As a result, early theories regarding the Moon's surface and interior were primarily speculative.
Despite this, during Terra Nova, the BSSA announced plans to launch a satellite into lunar orbit. Such a mission was expected to provide information regarding the Moon's terrain, composition, and physical structure.
The surface was theorised to consist of various materials, including white concrete, concrete powder, end stone, or other unknown substances. It was also speculated that the Moon, similarly to what was theorised of Terra Nova, possessed a bedrock core beneath its surface.
Moon Update
On 30 August 2026, EarthMC introduced the Moon Update in celebration of the server's 10-year anniversary. The update made a separate Moon world accessible to players. Alongside this, the update also introduced spacecraft (the space shuttle), lunar outposts, reduced gravity mechanics, oxygen mechanics, hostile lunar mobs, and new items.
The first known non-staff player to reach the Moon was Panth_r, leader of the nation Australia. Soon after, the first lunar outpost was created by VIInOni, another member of Australia.
Geography
The Moon measures approximately 35,000 by 17,500 blocks, this size having been designed to correspond proportionally with the real Moon when compared with the scale of the EarthMC map.

Lunar surface
The lunar surface is airless and unsuitable for unprotected human life. Players who arrive without sufficient items will be unable to survive for long due to the lack of oxygen.
The surface is also inhabited by dangerous hostile creatures. Lunar versions of zombies, skeletons, and endermen are significantly stronger than their counterparts on Terra Nostra.
These creatures possess:
- 20 hearts (40 HP)
- 12 armour points
- 8 attack damage
- A scale of 1.5 times that of their normal counterparts
The hostile environment, combined with the absence of breathable air and the presence of PvP, makes the Moon considerably more dangerous than most inhabited regions of Terra Nostra.
Underground
The underground composition of the Moon was unknown prior to the Moon Update. It has since been revealed that the Moon contains increased quantities of gold compared with Terra Nostra. This increased abundance of gold is intended to compensate for the risks associated with travelling to and from the Moon. The development of lunar mining also aims to reduce pressure on the custom Earth map (Terra Nostra), helping to preserve its natural resources and terrain.
The deeper internal structure of the Moon remains undocumented, as the update just released.
Gravity
The Moon possesses reduced gravity in comparison with Nostra. The previous estimated value of approximately 0.6 of Terra Nostra's gravity was speculative; following direct exploration, the Moon's gravity is instead implemented as a reduced gravitational environment designed to closely resemble that of the real Moon.
The reduced gravity allows players to jump higher than on Nostra.
Players equipped with specialised moon boots can perform a double jump while there.
Exploration
Lunar travel is conducted using rockets and a large space shuttle.
Travel begins on the surface of Nostra, where players launch a rocket. The rocket brings the player to the space shuttle, which travels to the Moon.
The journey is considered dangerous due to its hostile conditions. Travellers must bring sufficient oxygen and ensure that they are adequately equipped for combat against mobs and other players.
If a town possesses a lunar outpost, members of that town will land near the outpost upon arrival.
Rockets
Rockets are required to travel from Nostra to the space shuttle and are constructed using advanced materials designed to withstand the conditions of space travel.
Settlements
Lunar settlement is organised through the Towny outpost system.
Towns may establish one lunar outpost using the command:
/t claim outpost
Establishing a lunar outpost costs 256 gold. Each town may possess only one Moon outpost.
Once established, the outpost can be expanded using standard town claims at a cost of 16 gold per claim.
These outposts provide several important benefits:
- Oxygen does not deplete within claimed territory.
- Members of the associated town land near the outpost after travelling to the Moon.
- Outposts provide a location for storing items and resources.
- Outposts function similarly to town claims on Terra Nostra.
- Towns may expand their lunar territory through additional claims.
Unlike on Nostra, however, PvP remains enabled even within town claims.
Atmosphere and oxygen
The Moon possesses no breathable atmosphere. Human survival therefore depends on an artificial oxygen supply.
Players are required to wear a cosmonaut helmet as without one, they will quickly take damage.
A cosmonaut helmet stores 100 units of oxygen. Oxygen is consumed at a rate of 1 unit every 15 seconds, providing approximately 25 minutes of breathable air when fully supplied.
Oxygen can be replenished using oxygen bottles. Each oxygen bottle contains 10 units of oxygen, equivalent to approximately 2.5 minutes of additional oxygen.
Oxygen does not deplete within claimed outposts.
Oxygen production
Oxygen and hydrogen are produced through electrolysis.
The process requires:
- Water bottles
- Blaze powder
- A redstone block
The process produces two hydrogen bottles and one oxygen bottle.
Oxygen is used to sustain players, while hydrogen is primarily used as rocket fuel.
Resources
Gold
Gold occurs underground at a significantly higher rate on the Moon than on Nostra.
Due to the dangers associated with lunar travel, gold recovered from the Moon must be physically transported back to Nostra. Echests do not function on the Moon.
Titanium
Titanium is a rare and lightweight metal essential to crafting space-related items.
Titanium ingots have a small chance of being obtained while mining ores on Nostra, with the exception of nether quartz.
Titanium casing
Titanium casings are highly resistant to extreme temperatures and are primarily used in the construction of rockets.
Special items
The Moon Update introduced several new items designed for lunar exploration.
Cosmonaut helmet
The cosmonaut helmet provides explorers with a portable oxygen supply and is required for survival outside protected lunar settlements.
A cosmonaut helmet stores 100 units of oxygen. Oxygen is consumed at a rate of 1 unit every 15 seconds, providing approximately 25 minutes of breathable air when fully supplied.
The cosmonaut helmet is crafted using:
- 2 titanium ingots
- 1 nether star
- 1 tinted glass
- 2 netherite ingots
- 2 oxygen bottles
Oxygen bottle
Oxygen bottles are used to replenish the oxygen supply stored within a cosmonaut helmet.
Each oxygen bottle contains 10 units of oxygen, equivalent to approximately 2.5 minutes of additional oxygen.
Hydrogen bottle
Hydrogen bottles are used as rocket fuel.
A fully fuelled rocket requires 16 hydrogen bottles.
Moon boots
Moon boots allow their wearer to perform a double jump on the lunar surface.
Moon boots provide 2 armour points and consume durability when used. They can only be repaired using titanium ingots.
Moon boots are crafted using:
- 2 titanium casings
- 2 netherite ingots
Rocket
Rockets transport explorers from Nostra to the main space shuttle.
Rockets require:
- 3 titanium casings
- 2 tinted glass
- 1 fire charge
- 2 end crystals
After use, a rocket must be refuelled with hydrogen.
Titanium
Titanium is a rare material used in numerous advanced space-related crafting recipes.
Titanium ingots have a small chance of being obtained while mining ores on Nostra, with the exception of nether quartz.
Titanium casing
Titanium casings are highly resistant to extreme temperatures and are primarily used in the construction of rockets.
They are crafted using:
- 5 titanium ingots
- 4 gold blocks
Other mechanics
Ender chests
Ender chests are disabled on the Moon. This prevents players from immediately transferring resources to protected storage outside the Moon.
As a result, valuable resources extracted from the Moon must be transported back to Nostra by rocket. This makes lunar expeditions significantly more dangerous, as players can be attacked during the return journey.
PvP
PvP is permanently enabled throughout the Moon.
Unlike on Nostra, PvP cannot be disabled within claims. Even players located inside their town's lunar outpost may be attacked by other players.
Death
Death on the Moon results in the player instantly respawning on Nostra.
This prevents permanent stranding on the Moon but may result in players losing valuable resources obtained during their expedition.
