Aurora:Anti-Cascadianism
Anti-Cascadianism, also known as Cascadian hatred or Cascadiphobia, is a movement prevalent mostly in North America that encourages the weakening of the Republic of Cascadia and the removal of its influence across North America. The idea comes from the stylization of Cascadia as an empire, due to its historical expansion from the Pacific Northwest outwards into regions such as Canada, Texas, California, the Midwest, and the Eastern United States. The anti-Cascadian movement is a broad one, consisting of those who advocate for the destruction of the Cascadian nation, as well as those who instead advocate for it to be shrunken down to its original namesake. Certain radical strains call for violent invasion of Cascadia, with such people known as adherers to right anti-Cascadianism.
History
Cascadia-hatred is a phenomenon that did not originate on Terra Aurora. The nation known as Cascadia on Terra Nova experienced substantial criticism from both its political left (Cascadia is not liberal and democratic enough) and political right (Cascadia is too liberal and democratic). Sentiment such as this manifested itself in the secession of BonZZil's Washington from Cascadia and its joining with Rio Grande as an example of a right-critique of Nova Cascadia, and the Pacific Spring serving as an example of a left-critique of Nova Cascadia with the formation of the Salish Confederation by Vorobyevite, JTPilfered, and SayerQT.
Many opponents of Cascadia on Terra Nova belonged to, or were affiliated with, the nation of Ruperts' Land. Members of Ruperts' Land were known for their doxxing and harassment of Cascadians, and many of them have since been banned for EarthMC for doxxing. Cascadia, who on Terra Nova was known for having a higher-than average LGBTQ+ population, was specifically targeted by opponents of LGBT individuals present in groups such as Ruperts Land.
On Terra Aurora, a different Cascadia was founded by many individuals who criticized Cascadia on Terra Nova, instead prioritizing elements of direct and representative democracy, and creating social programs allowing towns to claim subsidies from the Cascadian government. Cascadia's formation was opposed by the Oregon Empire, which controlled a vast majority of the Pacific Northwest. In the first documented letter of anti-Cascadianism, Emperor OriginalDogster wrote to Mayor of Victoria LunarCats, documenting his opposition to Cascadian democracy, and warning LunarCats not to affiliate with Cascadians. Victoria would later join Cascadia and become one of its most central towns.
Cascadia's expansion was swift but quick throughout the autumn and winter of 2022. Oregon was dissolved, and Cascadia established itself as a regional hegemon. Anti-Cascadianism first seeped significantly into Terra Aurora when Cascadia acquired the nation of Yellowknife from the Philippines without the consent of the Philippine Congress, and without paying the gold the Philippines requested. The expansion of Cascadia outwards, via towns in California and the Midwest joining them, fueled opponents of Cascadia's criticism of the nation, allowing the idea of a Cascadian empire to take hold. The absorption of many nations by Cascadia, such as Vermont, Yellowknife, USA, North America, and California, has led to many seeing Cascadia as an imperialist power, contributing to a broad anti-Cascadianism prevalent in many parts of North America today.
Official Movement
One group claiming to be the official anti-Cascadian movement began gradually taking shape in early November 2025 in the Town of KalKash, later the Free Town of KalKash. KalKash was first founded as "KowKash" in March 2024, as a part of the nation of Cree. By June, KowKash had joined the nation of Kentucky, and by August 1, KowKash had become the capital city of Kentucky, which was then renamed by EMC staff due to the nation no longer being located in Kentucky. By September 3, 2024, the town had fallen due to player inactivity. The town was re-founded On November 1, 2025. The new town adopted a milder sense of the policy on the base belief that Cascadia once controlled the town and that the nation's neglect of it caused its ruinous state. This was based on the discovery of a Cascadian banner in the town hall once CallMiiChad first stepped into it in late October 2025. It was later discovered that Cascadia never actually owned the town. It has been speculated that the banner may have been placed after the town's dissolution, and could have acted a marker for a future Cascadian territorial claim had the town not been re-founded, but these are merely theories and are unconfirmed.
Once the town became newly independent, Cascadia began offering KalKash integration into the nation. These offers, however, were viewed as offensive by the KalKashian populace due to the belief that the town had once been owned by Cascadia. The townsfolk grew more distrustful of Cascadia as more offers were made. This contributed to a perception by some that any new towns joining Cascadia had simply "fallen prey" to the country's monopoly and hegemony over North America. Additionally, KalKash had received threats from Cascadian expansionists by way of signposting outside of the town on multiple occasions. These signs stated that annexation into Cascadia was inevitable. The threats caused a heightened sense of danger and a rush to gain nationhood which had previously not been universally desired by the townspeople. As a result, anti-Cascadianism was never dropped as official policy by the town and eventually the nation it would form: the Weagamow Confederation.
On December 24, 2025, the mayor of KalKash, CallMiiChad, officially proclaimed the beginning of the Anti-Cascadian Movement with the following speech:
“This town has seen exponential growth since its founding perhaps years ago. As is well understood in our history, it indeed once was a part of the Republic of Cascadia*, likely in its first days of initial foundation. We had diamonds and structures, sure, but we soon found ourselves in uninhabitable ruins, scourged by hunters. If it wasn’t for the reinvigoration of this town by its own civilians, it never would’ve made it to its current greatness in agriculture, industrialization, and community. Who wasn’t found as a piece in the puzzle, though? ANAPHIKISTHEMAN? Mizellland? No, each citizen played his part. There was one who never helped, who did not bother in aiding the town to keep it afloat, and it was not one man, but rather, an entity—Cascadia. It did not pay any mind to our fledgling town, which was, on paper, a fully integrated part of Cascadia; we had no special status or autonomy. All we were to that nation was merely an extension of their map and influence. Surely they gave us something that stuck with us, right? The diamonds were lost, the armor was broken, the tools went dull, the houses were ransacked. Nothing they left was truly of great value. We were the ones who did the repairs and the reconstruction. Cascadia did, however, reach out to us once again once we rebuilt—in the form of recruiters. No apologies or even recognition that we were once part of them, but constant invitations to rejoin their republic. This was a disgust to us, and we have prospered more than we ever would’ve if we had relied on Cascadia. At home, they may be a republic. However, their home does not extend to us. Here in Canada, they are an empire, we merely were and once again would become an outpost for them if we had accepted their invitations. The towns around us who have joined in their imperial monopoly do not realize this, but are blinded by the diamonds and false care that is provided them. These will not last, but the people will.”
“I now present to you the reason I make these remarks, and that is to proclaim a new movement, a new light over Canada and all of North America. I proclaim the need for the people to break free from the Cascadian empire and to join together in common union with happiness and with each other. This is our manifesto: to create a new nation—a confederation of free peoples—and to reverse the indoctrination of our local Canadians by the colonists. This is the foundation of a not-so-new movement, but it is now official. Today I proclaim to you the start of the Anti-Cascadian Movement.”

The speech was given before the updated understanding that Cascadia never owned the area of KalKash. Regardless of this, it set in stone the goal of independent nationhood for the KalKashian people. The official anti-Cascadian stance that had been adopted was not of intended destruction of Cascadia, but its loss of eastern territories, namely in Eastern Canada.
