Overview

Timor was a town on the Classic map that was founded in the Spring of 2017 and lasted until the server moved over to the Terra Nova map. The island, from humble beginnings, grew into the epicenter of the Island Union, which at its peak, was the 7th largest nation by the number of players living within its realm.

Origins

The town's founder, GymSock17, arrived on the island after a few days of exploring the map in early March of 2017. After gathering an adequate amount of supplies, and discovering an open tract of land on the far eastern tip of the island, Gym officially founded the town. The first build on the island was a small pier, one which would later grow into the town's port. Soon afterwards, GymSock built his house, which would be his permanent residence for the rest of classic. Following that, a building directly across from his house was constructed, the Crafting Hall.

Beginning of the Westward Expansion

Beyond Gym's house and the Crafting Hall, the rest of the island was covered in a thick jungle, which often had hostile mobs hiding in dark spaces. Over time, GymSock would personally and singlehandedly begin a process to clear the jungle, pushing westward and driving the jungle back. As more of the island was transformed from jungle and underbrush to open plains, more houses were built, and more players began to arrive to Timor and settling down.

A small, open island to the north, Wetar Island, was also claimed by Timor. A warehouse to store supplies was built at the center, and the island's eastern end was soon dominated by a large pig farm, typically containing ~80 pigs around the time of harvesting some of them for their meat. The remaining western end of the island was encompassed by a small farm that had multiple levels stacks atop one another, and was accompanied by a separate farm for beetroots that was housed in a dome underneath the sea just off the island.

First Political Contacts

When Timor was founded, the Indonesian Archipelago and Melanesia were uninhabited, with the only other towns that had previously existed there being abandoned. Nearby Australia was sparsely populated, having only a few small towns along the southeast and southwestern coastlines of the continent. This lack of player presence meant that the Timorians inhabited a region which had had its many resources almost completely untouched before their arrival. The island made good in the trade of wood, cocoa, sugar, and iron. As Timor's claim boundaries expanded more and more westward on the island, it's size and growth began to attract the attention of the server's major nations. Since Timor was at this time an independent City-State in an area otherwise uncolonized by players, the large empires of the era were interested in convincing Timor to join their nation, in order to use it as a springboard for expanding influence in the area.
