Nostra:North American Arab Spring

The North American Arab Spring is a series of anti-bureaucracy secessions from some of the largest North American nations built on months, or in some cases years, of pressure that reached its peak in the later half of August 2026. It officially began in Acadia, spread to America in the Midwest and East Coast, and later California with a total nuking.

In Acadia, the result was the secession of the Micoua community, much of Acadia's active community, to New York on August 15th, 2026 which included the towns of Micoua, Stormhaven, and Thunderdome. On August 19th, 2026 the town of Quail was purchased and joined New York, and the town of Sterling owned by 404aka also joined likewise citing irreconcilable differences with members of the leftover Acadian community.

In America, after a failed attempt to reform the nation, the City of Chicago seceded which brought with it 25% of the nation's population, the sitting President & Treasurer, several sitting representatives, along with three original founders of the nation. Chicago temporarily joined New York in the evening of August 16, 2026 to gauge the effects and reactions of their departure before committing to a nation. The Chicago leadership later established the nation of Chicagoland (formerly Heartlands) in the afternoon of August 17, 2026. Due to the unexpected secession of Chicago, the loss of much of the sitting leadership, and in part the quitting of America's former nation holder sayerleft days before, the presenting losses sent shockwaves throughout America unexpectedly causing most of the towns within the state of New Jersey to leave America for New York along with Cleveland joining Chicagoland. Some American towns within Pennsylvania, notably Pittsburgh, briefly left for New York but ultimately remained due to internal pressure. Philadelphia's intention to secede and make their own nation was leaked days before but nothing came to fruition.

In California, due to the refusal to give up power along with stagnation and inactivity caused by leaders Ewhy808 and Explosivefirewk, much of the nation left to create Pacific on August 29, 2026. Those who left included the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 9th most populous towns in California, two sitting cabinet members, seven members of the House of Representatives, and among the largest Californian towns by area and activity. As a result California faced major losses, much coming from the total nuking of the nation by shadowcipher and other chancellors which included kicking all towns and draining the nation bank. Most ex-Californian towns joined Pacific while some chose to join Canada.

History

Background

Succeeding Terra Nova, Terra Aurora was the EarthMC map that lasted from May 2022 to April 2026. Terra Nostra is the newest and current EarthMC map which started on April 17 2026. This section will summarize the past of the involved Terra Nostra nations as much of their history impacted their current day decisions.

Terra Aurora Vermont

Aurora Vermont was a small democracy on Terra Aurora that emerged in 2024. Much of the Acadian community originated from Aurora Vermont including locally notable players like Farosh_, Xeocas, KellyIsANiceLady, Princeling7, and other players from Nostra Montreal. Vermont's history was full of turbulence and drama especially in 2024 when they were criticized for being too submissive to Texas in the Great North American War, and failed to follow agreements made with the Organization of Free Nations of which they were a primary member of. Later in 2024 a minority of Vermonters left to Cascadia after being stressed and tired over Princeling7 consolidating power and refusing to reform the nation. In early 2025, the Wintours, who later founded Nostra New York, joined Vermont in an effort to reform it into a stable and successful nation. In February 2025 unbeknownst to the rest of Vermont, Princeling7 surrendered in their war against Illinois which was intensely controversial and even caused many original Vermonters to resign out of rage or shame. The power dynamic quickly shifted and put the Wintours in control of Vermont. Later after a referendum in both nations, Vermont merged into Cascadia in the later half of 2025 which included both original Vermonters and the Wintours.

Terra Aurora Cascadia

Much of the Acadian, American, and New York community, as well as a small minority of Californians, later came from Aurora Cascadia between 2024-2025 and 2022-2023 for some Americans. This time in Aurora Cascadia is crucial to the events in the North American Arab Spring as it exposed these communities first hand to the benefits and negatives of a faithful large-scale democracy. The benefits were higher activity, longevity, and a large community, Cascadia consistently was the most active nation for years with an average 30 people online a day. But there were also many negatives such as bureaucracy, intense arguments and rifts caused by politics, complaints about slow reactions to national issues, constant confusion with the government system from new players, and notably the lack of a competitive nation shop during all four years of Terra Aurora. These negatives, along with other drama, divided the Cascadian community towards the end of Terra Aurora between primarily two main groups. One group was associated with inactivity and being content with the status-quo or more intense bureaucracy, and the other group was associated with activity, community building, and reforms. This division caused the Cascadian community to separate into multiple planned nations for Terra Nostra which at first included Cariboo, Acadia, and New York as the largest nations, and for the most part most of the reform group filtered into Cariboo and New York while most of the status-quo group filtered into Acadia. Due to the proximity of the reset, in 2026 most in-game drama was swept under the rug and previously conflicting communities had an easier time mixing together. But when Mjap888, planned nation holder of Cariboo, consolidated power and introduced bureaucracy into the planned Cariboo nation and then later rage quit when confronted about it, most of Cariboo left to join the Acadia plans which included a lot of the reform community, recreating the same conflict as in Cascadia with the same two large groups.

Official plans for Chicago, and a consequential Chicagoland or Illinois nation, were conceived as early as February 2026 by Setrus. The plans were meant to be moderately critical of Cascadia, advertising a radically less bureaucratic nation with community building and activity at the forefront. In March these plans were later merged into the plans for America (then Midwest) when sayerleft discussed the idea with Setrus, who accepted on the basis of having access to a larger group of founders with a higher likelihood of creating Chicago. In the infancy of America's planning, Chicago was floated around as the top choice for the nation's capital due to its notability and central location within the United States. However when sayerleft, the longtime nation holder for Aurora Cascadia, floated the idea of being nation leader for America, Milwaukee became the capital instead after Setrus refused giving up Chicago to sayerleft.
