The Grand Maritime Federation held its first elections on January 31, 2022.

History

Buildup and Propaganda

In the leadup to the election, the existing Cumminist Party nominated GPM_Marcus for the Grand Council, in addition to the upstart National Socialist Maritime Prosperity Party and Pissist Preservation Alliance. These 3 candidates quickly became frontrunners, engaged in a fierce battle of shitposting to gain the approval of the electorate.

NSMPP Campaign

The NSMPP campaigned on a similar platform to the earlier Maritime Prosperity Party; mainly focusing on improving the economy, but with a notable focus on worker's issues. Despite the questionable iconography of the party being attacked by the party's opposition, St. SaltedSuris of Labrador officially endorsed the party.

PPA Campaign

An ad for the PPA campaign

The PPA was founded in the immediate aftermath of the election's announcement as a single-issue party focusing on the promotion of Pissism both within the Federation and abroad. Its nationalist platform was heavily criticized by the NSMPP, though it still gained significant support, gaining widespread support among the more radical Pissists in the Federation's government.

CPA Campaign

The Cumminist Party of Acadia primarily campaigned on a platform of reclaiming Angola, which had been sold away from Acadian control. While the PPA supported this element of the Cumminist platform, the NSMPP criticized it given that Angola was purchased, not conquered. The CPA was unable to gather support from many members of government, primarily due to the NSMPP creating successful propaganda against its revolutionary ideals and the PPA creating somewhat less effective campaigns against its radicalism.

Independents

The independent campaigns did not make significant actions during the election. They served as buffer candidates to burn votes on when opposition parties were the only option, due to the GMF's 3-vote system.

Results

All 3 major parties gained seats in the election, though the CPA made a surprisingly poor performance given their long history in both Acadian and Maritime affairs. Unsurprisingly, Remcoms's longstanding popularity in the Federation led to his election. The PPA performed surprisingly strongly given its recent foundation and lack of history in the Federation.
