The conflict began somewhere in mid-January, when mayor of Lugansk, Kyivstar, announced that island belongs to his town. He started set banners of Lugansk at the top of the island. Much blood has been shed for this island and there was a lot of talk about the name of the island, officially it was nameless, then it became the Lugansk island, then the Obdristan island. In the 12th of January 2023 D_KVyach, the mayor of the Rybinsk, announced that the island would become a condominium between Lugansk and Rybinsk and then announced that the island will be called Sakuya Izayoi island.
But the Lugansk mayor askate (Kyivstar/ AlfredMonster) disagrees about the name, he states that the island should be named "Donbass Heroes island"
