I did Sell Sorong, the largest and most influencal city on the island to the Japanese. They also currently control every city, outside of Palau_Adi and Giluwe on the island. Despite this, the IU still does exist and has claims to the land as you stated. 

Idk about Malaya but Tang disbanded recently and Japan now controls almost all towns on the mainland.
