New Caledonia, formerly known as Noumea and Mater Dei, is an island town that is a part of the nation and empire of Pilbara. Currently, it hosts 4 residents, alongside 148 claimed chunks. Despite having a low population compared to other settlements in Pilbara, it is the fourth largest town by chunks in the nation, coming behind Albury in third, Adelaide in second, and the nation's capital of Onslow Bay in first. This makes it the fifth largest in the empire itself.
History
Bygone Era (2022)
First Settler
On May 7th, 2022, the first settler, GoodBoy1111, arrived in New Caledonia and founded the town of New_Caledonia. An old conversation between a deleted user and another member, daenef, in the EMC Discord server, reveals that there was a great quantity of TNT (200 blocks) underneath the homeblock of the town. To this day, the details of what ensued remain unknown.
luka346's Reign
At some point between the 8th and 14th of May 2022, ownership of New_Caledonia was transferred to another player, luka346, who greatly expanded the town and brought it into the nation of Queensland. New_Caledonia remained a part of Queensland even long after he left the nation, all the way until November.
Name & Nation Change
At an unknown date between August 30th and October 1st 2022, player deepjade would be made mayor and would rename the town to 'Loyauté' as it joined Papa_New_Guinea. This was short lived however, and the town left the nation at some point during the same period to join Vanuatu instead.
Division Era (2022-2023)
The Great Divide
An event known as the Great Divide occurred at an unknown period between October 5th and November 2nd, 2022, in which an Astronaut205 created a new town called 'New_Caledonia' in the claims of Loyauté - thus dividing the large town and therefore the region.
Name & Mayoral Changes
Between November 6th and May 13th, 2023, the two towns underwent changes in both mayorship and name. In Loyauté's case, it was renamed to 'Italy' at an unknown time between November 12th and December 8th, 2022. As for New_Caledonia, it experienced a leadership shift during the same period, with Shensei4 being appointed mayor.
Deletion
Unexpectedly, at a time between April 21st and May 13th 2023, both New_Caledonia and Italy were deleted, leaving the island devoid of towns.
Nation Era (2023-2024)
Pre-establishment
Some day between May 13th and May 18th 2023, a town named New_Caledonia was created by Toasterpro71.
Foundation
On May 18th, 2023, following the creation of the town, Toasterpro71 would found a nation sharing the same name.
JuvaniOP
On June 5th or 6th, 2023, ownership of the town (and thus nation), was given to JuvaniOP.
Gramassis' Reign
On June 8th (or early June 9th), 2023, Gramassis would be appointed leader of New_Caledonia. Upon first becoming leader, Gramassis would take a slow approach, leaving the nation small and likely inactive. However, a month later in July, Gramassis would turn things around, shifting towards the creation of three towns: Lifou, Maré, and Ouvéa.
Nitrocloud8633
At a time between October 17th and October 31st 2023, Nitrocloud8633, the founder of Maré, would be given the nation. He would go on to serve as leader until November or December.
Decline
Between November 27th and December 2nd 2023, the towns Maré and Ouvéa were deleted.
Alutnarat's Reign
Alutnarat_ (later Alutnarat) acquired the nation between November 27th and December 2nd 2023. During his reign, Alutnarat would move the nation's capital to Lifou and due to having been made leader during a decline, New_Caledonia did not see any territorial progression.
Lifou Limbo
Sometime between December 7th and December 14th 2023 the nation's former capital, New_Caledonia, was deleted, making the nation a city state. The town would be passed down through two additional mayors, ShopANorthBrazil and Gaming_Legendz. Gaming_Legendz would attempt to sell the town multiple times, in one instance by advertising it in global and another on Discord. It was during this period that Dqncemaster became mayor and changed the town names to Communist_Lifou, and the capital was moved to a new town, Noumea, founded by MacaroniiCheese. Despite his best efforts, Gaming_Legendz would ultimately fail to sell the town, resulting in the town's deletion on May 22nd, 2024.
Modern Era (2024)
Dawn of Noumea
On May 9th, 2024, MacaroniiCheese would create the town of Noumea which would swiftly join New_Caledonia, becoming the new capital on May 14th or early May 15th.
New Mayors
On May 24th, 2024, iSucre would be appointed mayor, followed by eoinodonnell (SwetMC) on the 25th.
New_Caledonia-Solomon Affair & Purchase
On May 28th, 2024, eoinodonnell would visit Mergopolis, attempting to persuade (and arguably coerce) IanSpace71 into joining the ETRA upon garnering enough gold for a nation. IanSpace71 declined and instead planned on contacting Vanuatu, however, this never occurred. Within the same day, arrowkiddie was appointed leader and New_Caledonia was sold to IanSpace71 for 250 gold. The newly-purchased nation's capital was consequently moved to Mergopolis and it was renamed to the Solomon_Republic a day later on the 29th.
Zealandian Control
On July 2nd, 2024, after the sell of the nation, the town was bought by the newly formed Havaikian breakaway state of Zealandia, where the government gifted it to resident Pope_LeoXIII, who converted it into a Catholic town, bearing the new name of Mater_Dei.
Tinkered_
Following the dissolution of Zealandia due to internal conflicts caused by poor government decision-making during the second Zealandian-Havaikian war, Pope_Leo went inactive and was eventually purged. Tinkered_, founder and former mayor of Pilbaran towns such as Mesatown, Tatam, and New_Kraftier, bought it from 35EGO35 on October 1st, 2024, who had first obtained it from the current holder after Pope_Leo was purged, arrowkiddie. From there, the town was renamed "New_Caledonia" and joined Pilbara, where it is currently being further expanded upon.
