Background

The Maracaibo Grand Prix was hosted at every season in the Aurora period of EarthMC F1 with a dramatic track change in 2024, moving the track underground. The original layout featured a raised, thin track with track elevation for 2022 which was altered after elevation changes were banned for 2023, this layout weaving in and out of buildings in place. (Both layouts are available to timetrial on the BRWC server at icedrifters.de and /tt emcmaracaibo2022 and /tt emcmaracaibo2023)

The updated layout used from 2024 was an underground circuit. The main grid sat early on the main straight with the timing line positioned at the foot of the first corner. Turn one and two had a wall tap between with the second corner a long hairpin into a tight chicane between turns three and four with a harsh blockstop on the inside of turn 4. This led into a light left hander into a difficult blockstop on the inside of turn six. Turns seven and eight were a fast-paced near-straight with strict wall limits which punished running too close to the wall. Turns eight through ten were featured in the original 2022 circuit and were incredibly tight at around 6 blocks wide, needing an exception from the FIA. This section is opened by a quick blockstop on the inside, pushing into a tight straight after turn nine with very close walls and leading into a sharp right hander. Turns eleven and twelve were a subtle chicane which led into turn thirteen which was a wide blockstop. This led into turns fourteen and fifteen which featured a tight and wall-enforced chicane. Turn sixteen was a wide blockstop-hairpin which led into another wide blockstop-hairpin at turn seventeen after a straight with a viewing area on the outside. Turns eighteen to twenty-two was a fast section like between six and nine with a harsh wall on the outside. The pit was positioned on the outside of the track and was extremely small and tight at just three blocks wide and enforced by deepslate walls. Entrants

The event was contested by all twenty drivers however PieTheHead and KartKid8 failed to attend the race. 32Jeelow did not race due to him racing in the Formula Craft season and thus he was replaced by Acceleron reserve, 32Talvi.

Qualifying

Qualifying was held between 8pm GMT, Friday the 28th of February 2025 to midnight on Saturday the 1st of March 2025 with all contestants setting their classified time on the Saturday except F1rret who was permitted to qualify on Sunday the 2nd of March as the rules did not permit his teammate and qualification handler, PieTheHead, to qualify him. Drivers were allowed to take a second shot of qualifying which would supersede their first attempt.

Qualifying Report

World Drivers Champion, Gabe, was first to test qualifying for the Maracaibo Grand Prix in the morning, setting a 00:47.85 before instantly going for a second shot and scoring a 00:47.61. It wasn't for another 5 hours that qualifying would be tested again with Semicolon setting a 00:48.65 at 14:07. This was beaten by Gold Casino Racing's Fabi who set a 00:48.34 to put himself provisionally second. Semicolon's reserve teammate, 32Talvi, went for an immediate second shot after feeling unhappy with a 00:49.64, improving their time by almost half a second to a 00:49.16.

Multiple time race winner and teammate and partner of Fabi, Bubu, hit qualifying, scoring a 00:48.58 putting him behind his teammate before a second shot propelled him to provisional pole ahead of Gabe with a 00:47.54. Thee Boss was able to score a 00:48.62 on second shot for the Ferrari team before a mistake on Krisus' lap gave the Polish driver a 00:50.15 putting him in seventh.

A wonder lap from the Pole gave him provisional pole position with by four tenths with a 00:47.14, ahead of Bubu. This attempt was followed by a 00:51.96 for Walltuh at Ford and Sepl3333 who set a 00:48.10 to put himself on the provisional second row behind Gabe, finishing with a career-best sixth. His new teammate, Faxeo, set a 00:47.40 and giving him a provisional front row start, 0.26 seconds back from Krisus. Duck5goquack went for a second shot after scoring a 00:50.97, failing the attempt and landing him a 00:51.27 and putting him 3 tenths back from his previous qualifying time.

Two-time World Champion, Sab2003, set a 00:48.48 on his first shot, immediately following this up with a 00:48.24 on second shot and placing him provisionally in sixth. Provisional pole-sitter, Krisus' teammate, GamingAgent, set a 00:50.26 on his second shot to place him in eleventh, followed by two attempts from Ferrari's FatihAr who went 00:48.52 to place him in eighth. Kartkid8 took a second attempt and set a 00:51.11, placing him provisionally in thirteenth with Patty_Squad following up with a 00:51.75 for fifteenth with Murweh GP. His teammate manager of Murweh GP, Cap_Worm, was unable to break the one minute mark, finishing qualifying with a 01:19.82. Fauxbethvv set a 00:52.98 for the Indochina-Lamborghini team followed by PieTheHead who set the final Saturday time with a 00:56.82 after sustaining a crash in the lap.

His teammate F1rret was permitted a Sunday qualifying at noon, surpassing Faxeo's time to take the second grid spot with a 00:47.35 and thus giving KrisusQ his first ever qualifying pole position and making him the thirteenth driver and only Pole to ever do so. This was also the only pole position ever taken for the Warsaw Pegasus' team.

The race was scheduled to begin at 19:00 GMT on Sunday the 2nd of March 2025 however the event was delayed because PieTheHead was late to the race however he did not make it, instead acting as strategist for BMW. The race was allocated 30 laps with 2 mandatory pit stops which had to be completed during the race except for lap 0 or lap 30.

Lag on the server caused F1rret and Bubu to be kicked on race start, allowing Faxeo to dive to the inside of turn 1 and overtake Krisus. The chaos of the start allowed Sab to pass F1rret and take third from seventh on the grid as well as for Gabe and Fatih to pass Bubu. Krisus remained in tandem with Faxeo into the turn 4 hairpin followed by F1rret who managed to bring himself back into tandem with Sab with Gabe trailing the pair in fifth. They were followed by Semicolon who jumped from eleventh and Fabinostalgia with Bubu pushed behind backmarkers. Sepl and Fatih also dropped back massively on the start, running in thirteenth and sixteenth respectively.

Continued mishaps for Krisus saw him drop behind F1rret who was able to re-pass Sab and take back second after getting kicked at the line. This was followed by Gabe passing Krisus to follow his championship rival into lap 2, the two trailing Faxeo in the lead with Gabe's teammate Sab having to defend from his former 2022 title rival Semicolon. Duck5goquack took an early lap 1 pit stop and was the only driver to do so despite the chaos. Acceleron reserve, Talvi, passed Bubu on lap 2, forcing the Hungarian into the pits with him followed by Walltuh.

Despite falling behind, Krisus attempted to make a move on Gabe after he collided with F1rret on the pit straight entering lap 5 however he was spared from losing the position because Sab was stuck behind backmarker Cap_Worm who pitted the same lap. Fatih passed 32Talvi on the main straight after colliding with teammate Semicolon, the Genoese driver taking seventh.

Faxeo pitted entering lap 6 as the frontrunners reached backmarkers, giving the race lead to F1rret who was subsequently passed by Gabe into turn 3 forcing him onto the inside of the corner whereby he was passed by Krisus with Sab entering tandem. More backmarkers brought Gabe into the pits to attempt to undercut Krisus and F1rret putting the Pole back into the lead of the race who extended his gap to the Patagonian driver to about 5 seconds with the pair clearing traffic ahead.

Faxeo committed to his second pit, dropping him into ninth behind Fatih who was repassed by Talvi. Gabe's pit exit put him behind backrunner Fauxbethvv and into fourth on track, behind teammate Sab who was running a few corners ahead without pitting in third. Bubu passed his teammate Fabi whilst he pitted, bringing him into eleventh and ahead in the one-stop strategy group. Krisus pitted into lap 9, handing the race lead back to F1rret although with three cars of traffic ahead. Krisus exited the pit into fourth, ahead of Gabe and behind Semicolon who was struggling with backmarkers. A large crash ahead of the Polish driver saw him passed by two drivers who hadn't yet pitted and dropping him into Faxeo's tandem who had already completed both of his mandatory pit stops. Traffic pitting gave F1rret clearn air leading into lap 10.

Sab went for his first pit from second, getting stuck behind a backmarker in the pitlane. He exited the pit into sixth behind Fatih and Talvi with Semicolon promoted to third but a pitstop down with Sab's teammate, Gabe, running ahead in second. Both Gabe and Sab committed to their second stop after seeing F1rret on a clean part of the circuit. They were followed by KrisusQ however the pit brought them back behind the traffic that they had already spent much of the race stuck in.

Bubu was able to pass Sab on lap 12, the two on the same number of pitstops with F1rret catching up to Krisus as a backmarker following the Pole's second stop, lapping up to eleventh. Gabe, unable to pass a backmarker on the main straight, was kicked from his boat and passed by Bubu with teammate Sab crashing into him. F1rret passed Krisus to lap him on lap 16 with the Patagonian catching the frontrunners to lap them also.

KrisusQ repassed F1rret to unlap himself, forcing F1rret into the pitlane to take his first stop on lap 17, exiting into traffic and behind Semicolon who was given the lead although without having done a pit stop. This changed on lap 18 when he took his first pit, exiting in second and giving the lead back to the Patagonian. A hazard was caused when Walltuh was kicked and idled from his boat along the main straight into lap 19 with no driver seriously impeded. Fatih pitted from third for his first stop of the race giving Faxeo third on track.

Semicolon went for his final pit entering lap 21 and dropping position to Faxeo who made his way into second. The other frontrunners of Gabe, Sab and Krisus continued to be stuck behind traffic making them forced to battle without the chance to move track position having already completed all their mandatory pit stops. Fatih came in from fourth for his final stop on lap 23, exiting the pit in eighth behind Krisus. An incident at turn 5 brought semicolon back into traffic with former rival, Sab, able to catch him up to contest third.

F1rret went for his final pit stop on lap 24, exiting the pit with lengthy clean air except for backmarker Walltuh with Faxeo around 2 seconds behind. Walltuh ran wide from turn 4 allowing F1rret to pass to the inside and knock Walltuh off track allowing Faxeo to also pass. Gabe was able to pass his teammate, Sab and put a backmarker between them to catch Semicolon who was now in clean air and with a backmarker between himself and the Brit. An incident at turn 4 on the same lap caused Bubu to lose position to Sab and KrisusQ, demoting him to seventh. Fabi retired from the race on lap 26 after pulling into his pit box.

An incident on the main straight brought Patty Squad, Cap Worm, Walltuh and Fauxbethvv directly ahead of the fight for the lead as the frontrunners entered lap 28, separated by around a second. Bubu was able to repass Fatih for seventh after he was passed earlier in the lap with the Genoese driver making a mistake and getting kicked on the main straight after contact with KrisusQ.

A failed attempt of overtake into turn 1 dropped Faxeo into the pit wall granting F1rret a larger lead which could not be maintained due to the lapped drivers ahead. Sab re-overtook his teammate Gabe on lap 29 to challenge Semicolon for the podium. F1rret passing backmarker fauxbeth put him into more traffic behind Patty Squad and Walltuh however now with a large lead and a backmarker between himself and Faxeo. Sab overtook Semicolon to steal his old rivals podium however made contact with the second Warsaw Pegasus' boat which was lapped allowing the Brazilian to retake third. Gabe successfully defended fourth against KrisusQ with the driver who started on pole position dropping behind a backmarker and out of contention as they entered the final lap.

As the chequered flag fell, F1rret's lead was reduced to just 1.18 seconds however he came home to take his first race win in Formula one after 21 grand prix in the sport. Faxeo's finishing position of second gave him his first ever podium for his first race since the first half of the 2023 season with Semicolon finishing in third position to take his tenth career podium and first podium since the Indochina Grand Prix in 2023. Gabe was able to make a last lap move on his teammate to secure fourth with Sab finishing just over a second behind and ahead of pole-sitter KrisusQ who fell to his most average position of a sixth. Bubu came in a close seventh followed by FatihAr and 32Talvi who scored her second points in Formula One after scoring a tenth position in Detroit in the round before. The final point was awarded to GamingAgent who finished a lap down to take home one of just two career finishes.
