The Mosque is led by a Mufti who serves as Imam. They live in the house across from the Minaret. The Mufti is seen as the first among equals of all African Muslims and it is planned that the Mufti will ~~sponser~~ the building of other Mosques and the spread of Islam across Africa. Being of the Sunni tradition the Mufti recognizes the Caliph and superiors as having more weight behind their fatwas than the Mufti has.
