The North Island of New Zealand is one of the three major islands that make up New Zealand, coming in second place in size and first in population. The capital Auckland and the previous one, Wanganui are both on this island along with the largest town in population, Taupo.

The island is located in the South East Pacific, covered densely in forests, lakes and in some places, mountains. Forests are largely populating the East and Western areas of North Island around Taupo and the largest length of mountain ranges are also located in the Eastern areas, with some other ones around Wanganui, Auckland and the Taranaki region.
