The Grande Prairie Incident was an armed assault by forces of the Union of British Columbia against the Cascadian frontier town of Grande Prairie.
Background
The Town of Grande Prairie had been established in April of 2021 by 32Oreo with the intent of redeveloping the region, as the area had previously been controlled by 32Oreo and his friends. In April 2021, the area in which Grande Prairie was established was De Facto claimed by British Columbia. The establishment of a new Cascadian town in that region caused concern among the governing individuals of British Columbia and an ultimatum was sent by British Columbia to 32Oreo, which was refused.
25 April Escalation
On 25 April, British Columbia elected to declare war on Grande Prairie as an individual town with the goal of regaining lost territory. The declaration was recieved directly by the mayor, 32Oreo and ignored.
26 April Incident
On 26 April, forces of the Union of British Columbia began harassment tactics against 32Oreo to attempt to get him to capitulate to their demands. Initially, the harassment was small. Locals were forced to remain within claims for their own safety and redevelopment of the town continued normally even with a British Columbian presence. Shortly thereafter, the leader of the initial harassment, xGoat_ escalated his efforts against 32Oreo by damaging some of the infrastructure and natural improvement projects that had been worked on. 32Oreo then offered to capitulate to British Columbia, by offering to join their nation in order to restore the original de facto borders in exchange for being allowed to peacefully work on his projects. The xGoat_ openly refused 32Oreo's offer of peace and continued to escalate, eventually being joined by xK1_ in an all-out assault on Grande Prairie. The town was partially lavacast by xK1 and xGoat, supported by a number of locals from nearby British Columbian towns. Damage was extensive and lead to a number of unverified deaths.
Cascadian Reaction
Cascadian reaction to the incident was decisively in favour of Grande Prairie. Though the act of establishing a new Cascadian town in British Columbian territory was looked at with disapproval, the actions of the Union of British Columbia were met with sweeping disapproval by members of the Cascadian Senate.
British Columbian Reaction
The Union of British Columbia continued to stand by their decision to lavacast the Town of Grande Prairie.
International Relations
It is widely believed that the actions of the Union of British Columbia in Grande Prairie will severely damage the progress that had been made between themselves and the Republic of Cascadia in working towards re-unification. Statements were made in the Cascadian Senate expressing strong levels of contempt for the maturity and governing ability of British Columbia's leadership.
