The Grande Prairie Incident was an armed assault by forces of the Union of British Columbia in response to the Cascadian town of Grande Prairie illegally settling within British Columbian claims and breaking existing border agreements made with British Columbia, that ultimately culminated in a lava-cast of the town by British Columbian forces.

Background

The Town of Grande Prairie had been established in April of 2021 by 32Oreo with the intent of redeveloping the region, as the area had previously been controlled by 32Oreo and his friends.

In April 2021, the area in which Grande Prairie was established was de facto claimed by British Columbia. The establishment of a new Cascadian town in that region caused concern and irritation among the Parliament of British Columbia and an ultimatum was sent by British Columbia to 32Oreo to withdraw fully from the area, which was refused.

24 April Escalation

On the 24th of April, British Columbia Parliament elected to declare war on Grande Prairie as an individual town. It was later revealed that this action had recieved prior approval from Cascadian President JesTer, with him quote; "Oreo is free game for any PP (Pacific Pact) nation. He won't listen to anyone", The British Columbian goal was to return the region to their control, regaining territory that had been lost as a result of the establishment of Grande Prairie. Further goals eventually included demands of the complete dissolution of Grande Prairie. The declaration was received directly by the mayor, 32Oreo and promptly ignored.

26 April Incident

On the 26th of April, forces of the Union of British Columbia began harassment tactics against 32Oreo to attempt to get him to capitulate to their demands. Initially, the harassment was small. Locals were forced to remain within claims for their own safety and redevelopment of the town continued normally even with a British Columbian presence.

Shortly thereafter, the leader of the initial harassment, xGoat_ escalated his efforts against 32Oreo by damaging some of the infrastructure and natural improvement projects that had been worked on. 32Oreo then offered to capitulate to British Columbia, by offering their own concession to join British Columbia in order to restore the original de facto borders in exchange for being allowed to peacefully work on his projects. xGoat_ openly refused 32Oreo's offer of peace, citing their original demands and the fact the town of North Edgewater was created specifically for the land that Grande Prairie currently resides in, and continued to escalate and eventually being joined by xK1_ in an all-out assault on Grande Prairie. The town was partially lava-cast by xK1 and xGoat, supported by a number of locals from nearby British Columbian towns. Damage was extensive and lead to a number of unverified deaths, both during the attack and during the mod rollback. After the lavacasting, 32Oreo had withdrawn his proposal to capitulate.

Cascadian Reaction

Cascadian reaction to the incident was decisively in favour of Grande Prairie. Though the act of establishing a new Cascadian town in British Columbian territory was looked at with disapproval, the actions of the Union of British Columbia were met with sweeping disapproval by members of the Cascadian Senate. Grande Prairie immediately recieved recognition by the Cascadian Senate and recieved aid to reinforce the integrity of the town.

British Columbian Reaction

The Union of British Columbia had repeatedly denounced the encroachment of their territory to Cascadia days before, and continued to stand by their decision to lavacast the Town of Grande Prairie even after the incident had concluded. British Columbian officials had enough of the waiting and "legal" processes in which Cascadian officials cited that showed no progress, and decided to take it into their hands to solve their border dispute. Repeatedly falling back to Cascadian President JesTer's own greenlight to attack the town, as it has refused to comply with existing border agreements and remove themselves from the claimed land.

International Relations and Reunification Talks

Cascadian:

It is widely believed that the actions of the Union of British Columbia in Grande Prairie will severely damage the progress that had been made between themselves and the Republic of Cascadia in working towards re-unification. Statements were made in the Cascadian Senate expressing strong levels of contempt for the maturity and governing ability of British Columbia's leadership.

British Columbian:

With the lack of further cooperation prior to the event with Cascadia and their rouge town, talks about reunification have completely fallen through within the British Columbian Secretariat. As of current, all plans or agreements in relation to reunification have been scrapped and will not be considered further. The British Columbian Secretariat has repeatedly expressed severe disapproval with the Cascadian Cabinet and their disability to uphold a cohesive message and border agreements. Many within the British Columbian Parliament feel that if Cascadia inclined to backtrack on this border dispute, with prior approval and agreement, what is going to stop them from doing so later on with other subjects.
