Edmonton is the northernmost and easternmost town of the Salish Federation, situated on the banks of Alberta's Lesser Slave Lake. Founded on the abandoned town site of the old city of Strathcona on April 15, 2020, Edmonton grew rapidly to become the second-largest Salish city by land area. The city is a vital transport junction for Northern Canada, and is known as the Gateway to the North.
