The Savoie War of Independence began on 21 January 2025.

Prelude

The war first began when Venice released the following statement on 21 January:

Savoie isn't part of Venice, nor an ally All of the Venetian government is uncomfortable with Savoie and specially its leadership Absolutely nobody in Venice shares the ideals of Thanamos, and are strongly against his past actions both on and off the server The clear intention of Savoie "being in Venice" is to use it for territorial gains in France and as protection, offering nothing in return Savoians are clearly not fond with Venetians, and have already been acting independent for months now Venice does not wish to be allies with Savoie, and will not support it in any present or future conflicts, such as the recent HRE-Savoie conflict

In response, Venice declared war on Savoie, in an attempt to overthrow the government of Thanamos, which had wreaked havoc in Europe for several months in the leadup to the war. Savoie had previously clashed against the Holy Roman Empire meganation

War is Declared

France appealed to the common good of Europe, and Europe responded. Germany and the Netherlands declared war on Savoie, while Savoie was blocked from Venetian resources as a result of their aggressive actions. The Organization of Free Nations condemned Savoie for their actions against France.

Savoie expanded their territorial claims to the United Kingdom, leading to a UK declaration of war on 23 January.

Savoie Sparks a World War

With their recent territorial disputes having concluded for the most part, Cascadia declared war on Savoie on 23 January, leading to the war becoming a world war, the first of such for EMC-Aurora in 2025. Many nations sided with Venice and France against Savoie; however, Scandinavia has been reported to be supporting Savoie. No public statement has been made to this effect, however. Some experts say that this could be a proxy war on the side of Scandinavia against the same nations that it fought in the Winter Surprise war, fought in the opening days of January 2025.
