Senegal Railway Network
Overview
The Dakar-Sahel Railway is a railway partially operational and partially under construction that links Dakar on Africa's West Coast with (planned) Lagos.
History
Due to the lack of active nations in the Western Portion of Africa and lack of good transport besides some Malian canals Dakar decided to undertake two massive railway projects, the Dakar-Sahel being the first one, the Trans-Sahara being the second.
The railway was slowly build from Dakar, coming from the Dakar Terminus on elevated track until it lowered to ground level and proceeded to the upper reached of the Senegal River until turning southward, following the river for a bit before turning due east again. It is continually being expanded as it inches ever-closer to Lagos.
The Railway faced difficulties from lack of iron but has managed to overcome them.
Future
The Dakar-Sahel Railway will reach Lagos and from there one can transfer onward to Cameroon and use the Lagos Metro. At the other end in Dakar one will be able to transfer to the Trans-Sahara and journey northwards towards Morocco. Near the middle of the route a branch line can connect to the Mali capital of El_Alamein. Other Dakar-radiating lines pending planned creation can also be transferred to.
