The Name
The name is not random, but it has a meaning: "The End of the World", In the gospel many times the word "Omega" (Ω) means "The End" (because is the last letter of the Greek Alphabet), and in Latin "Mundi" means "World", so The End of the World becomes Omega Mundi.
History
The Foundation
The Town of Omega Mundi has been founded on 20th August 2024 AD by Atti_737, who was a franciscan friar: franciscans are the missionaires of the Church, so Atti was in search of unevangelized areas to establish a parish there and evangelize the area. Originally, it was just a 4 chunks claim just to make the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows safe from wilderness, but then, Atti found the possibility to get faithful and create a diocese there, so new igloos started to appear near the Sanctuary.
The Expansion
To gain faithfuls for the Parish, Atti started to build igloos, making OM (Omega_Mundi) an actual town. The 10th September 2024 there has been a Big change in OM: a new priest joined the parish, his name is CostDadi. This was very a important event, because it means that the Church in antarctica was gaining popularity and this helped the creation of the Diocese. In the month of semptember the town expanded, with new buildings like a farm, a shop, a town hall, a ice road, new igloos, Statues...
The Church
The Diocese
All was going good and finally, the 10th October 2024 the parish was elevated to diocese by Pope John Paul III, creating the Diocese of Antarctica, and elevating Atti from priest to Bishop. This was the main goal of Atti & CostDadi. The creation of the Diocese of course was the goal, but not the finish line, instead, that was just the start of a bigger adventure! Later, in the next weeks, the Cathedral of Saint Januarius at the Snows has been built, becoming the Ecclesiastical See of the Diocese of Antarctica. The 1st November 2024, the Cathedral has been consecrated by Cardinal Luke08Gala: this signs the official start of the functions of the Diocese.
