The Brazilian Historic and Geographic Institute (Portuguese: Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro) founded on the 16th April 2021 in the town of Recife, is the oldest and most traditional authority to promote research and preservation of historical and geographical, cultural and social sciences in Brazil.

History

While not a direct precursor to the IHGB, there was once a Brazil Statistics department in the Kingdom of Brazil. This organisation made maps, tracked statistics and manages the wiki pages. It was PrestusHood, head of Brazil Statistics who made the Brazil Navbox. The department ended sometime in mid-2019.

In response to the decision of creating States in Brazil, Luke_Show suggested the creation of a government institution which could preform the administrative work intended for states. His Proposal for an IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística / Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) ‘did not go very well’, despite the only dislike to it being his own, and states where used to administrate the nation.

Eight days later, on 15th of April 2021, Luke_Show made a new proposal for the creation of the IHGB. This one was intended to be a private institution with no affinity to the government, its only commitment being to the transmission of truthful information and data. The creation of a private institute did not traditionally require a proposal, but Luke_Show wanted it to have a channel in the main Discord Server, so its results and projects were more easily accessible to the public. Olivio90 pointed out that the IHGB proposal could still be passed if he removed his own dislike, but Luke objected, stating that a private institution would fit better with his schedule. The proposal was passed and the institution founded on the 16th of April after going through the polls surprisingly quick. It’s headquarters were in Luke’s town of Recife.

Three days later, V_Rodo suggested putting Hoffman002 in charge of the IHGB and founding the IBGE with himself leading it. This was rejected, since the Luke_Show was already in charge of the institute and an IBGE would be unnecessary. Prompted by Rodo’s idea, Hoffman002 joined the institute later that day, Using his new power, Hoffman002 created a Poll, asking if Brazil’s historical eras should be expanded from two to three. The poll was unanimous, and the era of Middle Brazil was added. Soon after, Hoffman002 began ‘cleaning’ works on the wiki page.

At the end of May, an offical role for the IHGB was added. By this time, xenomorph07 and Fernando_Collor had joined, bringing the institute to four members. On the 24th of June, Luke_Show proposed the creation of an entire Discord category dedicated to the institute, consisting of three channels; one for announcements and general posts, one for maps, graphs, statistics and data, and the third channel for general conversation and research. This was passed. A little over five months later, the IHGB sent out its first official survey, which asked mayors and co-mayors their opinion on the Federal Government’s support of Municipal Governments. Obviously to the recent survey, TomatorsVThe, proposed deleting the IHGB channels, since they where practically inactive.

Despite TomatoesVThe’s proposal being shot down, five more months of inactivity must of been enough to change minds, since xenomorph07 simply asked Olivio90 to move the category to a hidden part of Discord, where they could be kept from cluttering the server but preserved for future use. Currently the IGHB uses a private group chat instead, and has begun a lengthy project to restore and improve Brazil’s wiki pages.
