Friesland is a town in the low-countries, and is a town under the direct control of Saxony and the Saxonic Empire. It borders Amsterdam, Atlantis, Bremen, Frankmark and Denmark. It holds land in West-Frisia, Noord-Holland, East-Frisia and Emden; it is currently the best town ever to exist on EarthMC (so far).

Pre-History

Ship from the Leeuwarden era, constructed by the madagascar company. It is now named the SS Grût-Kening and one of the oldest unaltered ships in EMC Europe.

According to early screenshots, Frisia was settled by several nationless towns in the early days of Terra Nova in 2019. The earliest nation was Atlantis, but true Frisia was originally claimed by Germany in wilderness claims, and a Leeuwarden town was settled in the west by 2020. The original Netherlands probably didn't claim Frisia with a town, but technically controlled the area under claims agreed on in their vassalship to Germany at the time.

Britain's growth onto the Scandinavian continent grew deep into Lower-Saxony and Hannover and they even captured Leeuwarden by the end of 2020, when KoalaBox -a player who greatly expanded Leeuwarden's claims- was denied the rank of "Viceroy of the Netherlands" within Germany and defected to the British. The protectorate deal stopped the brits at Hamburg, but Britain controlled Leeuwarden for a few months under mayor Kip until it was sold again when the protectorate came to an end. The town was briefly in Germany again before becoming the Netherlands: ruled over by Potatoe, and later ChesterStone1. It was renamed Frisia and was the capital of the nation. The western town's fortifications are from the early Leeuwarden/German era, and the east buildings are from the dutch era.

Any british influence on the architecture and infrastructure is unknown, but several signs along the roads and one of the islands points to a Dutch-speaking community. Frisia and the Netherlands fell on the 29th of September due to inactivity, and the scramble for the land begun.

History of the Modern Town

Waddenzee

On the 12th of August, 2021 , PastelAnt387850 created the town of Waddenzee on the unclaimed West Frisian islands and made himself the Serene Duke. He was committed to being independent, but eventually joined Saxony after the king converted. The town was only about six claims in the beginning and struggled to find members.

Formation

After the collapse of Old Frisia on the 29th of September, the scramble for the land began and the mayor of Waddenzee, PastelAnt387850, was bestowed gold by the Confederation to start claiming it eastwards- and the West Frisian islands quickly succumbed. MapleVK of Denmark sent an ultimatum not to expand further, but you should never listen to British people. Though British troops blocked the claim bridge to Westergoa, Pastel was agile enough to claim fast enough without being hurt. Despite blocks and attacks from Maple and a commonwealth king, Pastel managed to claim most of West Frisia at about 2:00 AM on the 30th. This is mainly due to Denmark being over its claim limit of the time, and from additional military support from Belgium.

The next day, the Danish were finally blocked off by claims and Friesland quickly came under control of PastelAnt- who proclaimed himself Margrave: defender of the german border. Though the borders weren't fully restored, the historical regions of Friesland, Groningen, Emsigerland, East Frisian Islands and Federgo were under control and deemed a united town.

Friesland after the capture of Groningen to the south

Capture of Drenthe

Drenthe was captured by Megali's France in early 2022 and was made the town of Groningen, as a front against the Europa Pact and a bid to enforce Britain's claim on the area due to a short-lived occupation of the old Frisian town in 2020. This conflict in the Europa-Pact/France war is known as the Utrecht's Conflict, due to Amsterdam's involvement in blocking off the South.

However, after Slyprince's alts were banned, the Angevin Empire was disbanded and Megali's France was captured by the Francians, the town passed into Swiss hands in late February (though was never a part of the official claims of the nation).

Because the alt mayor was no longer allowed to log-on, the town fell into inactivity and eventually ruin. With the Swiss king's approval, Friesland peacefully claimed the land on the 5th of April 2022- a day that became a town holiday.

Culture

The main language is in fact Waddenish, the common tongue originating from the Republic of Waddenzee (modern day Westflinge). Frisian isn't really spoken amongst the population, and you're seen as of noble blood or that you have a rich merchant father if you speak it. Low-Saxon is spoken around Emsigerland and lower parts of Westergoa, and Hochdeutsch is taught in schools.

The population is majority Shrekist, with a Josephinist minority. The religion is protected by the archbishop to highlight the tolerance of it in the new denomination.

The Frisian culture remains dominant, while the Dutch one slowly dies out. A Waddenish delicacy, Saarbrid (Raw Chicken) was introduced and remains a thing for the tourists. We don't actually eat that stuff, it's nasty.
