Organized Labor

On EarthMC, Organized labor is when workers come together to achieve common goals, such as attaining better wages, having better working conditions, benefits (such as vacation, retirement, and other forms of work), through the increased bargaining power wielded by solidarity among workers. The History of Trade Unions and Organized Labor on EarthMC is fairly weak, however several impromptu organized labor movements have sprung up across the server's history.

Definition

Trade Unions and Organized Labor on EarthMC by definition is parallel to real-life Labor Unions and Organized Labor, however it is never as organized or extreme as in real life when it comes to Organized Labor on EarthMC. However, it is often associated with leftism and leftist thought. Karl Marx described trade unions thus: "The value of labour-power constitutes the conscious and explicit foundation of the trade unions, whose importance for the ... working class can scarcely be overestimated. The trade unions aim at nothing less than to prevent the reduction of wages below the level that is traditionally maintained in the various branches of industry. That is to say, they wish to prevent the price of labour-power from falling below its value" (Capital V1, 1867, p. 1069). Early socialists and Marxists also saw trade unions as a way to democratize the workplace. Through this democratization, they argued, the capture of political power would be possible.
