The Reset movement

The Reset movement is a popular movement in favour of a reset of the server. Most of the movement started with the Reddit post It's time for a reset by MineHero43. The core beliefs of the movement are that the server should have its map resetted for multiple reasons, including, but no limited to, lag, fatigue, boredom, town and nation saturation and one man town and nations.

The movement has seen a resurgence as of November 2021 because of another Reddit post by concernedEMCplayer.

Arguments

Pro-reset arguments

• Nation cramming: Many locations like North America and Europe are saturated with nations, making it virtually impossible to create new nations.
• Resource depletion: Many resources are depleting quickly. The biggest example of this is in the Sahara and sand; as sand isn't a renewable resource, sand is quickly running out and, in the future, it could even become a luxurious resource.

Anti-reset arguments

• Town/nation upkeep: This would force town/nation owners to be active so that their town/nation doesn't fall. This would boost activity.
• Rising town/nation prices: Self-explainable. The natural extensin of upkeep, it would make it harder to create town/nations, forcing people to be active if they wished to create a town/nation.

Pro-reset counter-arguments

• Town/nation upkeep: Your town/nation could fall in a couple of days because lag/queue times avoided you from joining, thing which would be unfair.
• Rising town/nation prices: It would only be a temporary fix.

Anti-reset counter-arguments

• Nation cramming: Locations like western Asia and Africa are virtually empty and available for new nations.

History

Before MineHero's post

The idea of a reset had existed since before the Terra Nova update and continued to exist in the new map. However, the movement hadn't been official or very important in the community.

MineHero's post

On April 5th, 2020, MineHero43, the leader of Britain at the time, posted It's time for a reset to the EarthMC subreddit. The post stated many ideas that are still used in many discussions about the reset to this day, like nation cramming, lag, nerfing n spawns and other ideas. The post was very popular and began much of the movement.
