Timaru is a town on the East coast of South Island, New Zealand just under Christchurch, one of the oldest towns in New Zealand. Currently, Timaru is the third largest town in population and fifth in claims, being one of the most developed places on New Zealand. Timaru is also the "spiritual" capital of New Zealand and South Island just because plans failed to proceed from changing the capital from Auckland to Timaru and so while Timaru is a spiritual capital, Auckland remains holding the actual title.
