It should be noted that political factions in Cascadia are almost always unofficial, and often informal. While Osoyoos was a coherent political faction, and very centralized, it was not a political party officially in any way.

Osoyoos, also known as the Osoyoos movement, the Hivemind, the Osoyoos Grand Fleet or sometimes the Radical conservatives were a reactionary political faction and movement in Cascadia that existed between August 9 and October 22, 2023, dying out when most of their faction seceded in reaction to the results of the national elections that were being revealed just that night. Their ideology followed ultra-nationalism, imperialism, jingoism, and hivemind collectivism. The nature of their ideology is essentially just the Minecraft equivalent to fascism. The faction started from the friend group that settled under the town of the same name, however grew quickly, eventually encompassing around a third of Cascadia's active population, quickly obtaining political prominence in Cascadian politics, acting as a third position challenging the traditional of the Cascadian Populist Era, namely the Social Democrats and the Populists. In the August 2023 presidential election, Osoyoos-aligned PhantomXYZ won the most first-preference votes, although lost to the incumbent center-left president EmpressCorgo. The Osoyoos political machine reached their height in October of 2023, where in that month's elections their presidential candidate, Flatvent_One, tied with incumbent EmpressCorgo, with exactly 40 votes each according to final preference votes. Due to the tied election, the result was to be decided by a contingent election in the House of Representatives, however before the contingent election was to be held, a majority of Osoyoos's figures left the nation, and deleted their towns, and admitted their plan to plunder the national treasury if elected to power. Osoyoos left a legacy of causing Cascadia to go into a short but chaotic era in which the nation was extremely politically unstable and toxic, particularly concerning their feuds with the Frontier, another political faction within Cascadia at the time. After their secession, they would go on to form the nation of Chad, who would eventually start the Wagner War just two months later, and some members such as Karn4 would even go on to fight in the Great American War under North_Paso's Texas.

Foundation and Early History

Beginning and Political Emergence

Osoyoos was originally a town owned between a group of friends, founded on July 3, 2023. They had a whole discord of around 40-50 members to bring with them, although not all of them would join EarthMC. They were not politically active for their first month of activity, mostly due to having other priorities such as building up their town and colonies. Eventually, they would branch out and form what they'd refer to as "colonies", being towns formed by Osoyans, still connected to the main friend group. These include the towns of, but are not limited to Baroque Works, founded by Flatvent_One, Grande_Furry, founded by Nephi_UwU_oWo, and Mt. Constantinople, founded by Thither138.

This political inactivity changed around the time then Secretary of Defense RealLimpopo stole around 4,500 gold from the nation in a betrayal through a buyout of the Rocky Mountain Federation gone wrong. The Osoyans were incredibly angered by these actions at the time, leading them to urge the then President, EmpressCorgo to take military action through the proposal of founding a siege town called "PoopTown" on Banff's border, though the Corgo Administration opted to instead attempt to negotiate a repayment of the gold stolen. This eventually resulted in the unpopular Treaty of Walterston, a treaty to pay back those who donated to Cascadia for the purchase gone wrong at a rate of 50 gold per week. Regardless, Osoyans would continue to urge the Corgo Administration to "Grab them by the Rockies" and take military action on the RMB. Most of the communication between the Corgo Administration and representatives of the Osoyoos faction occurred in a group chat known as "True Based Cascadian Patriots".

Early in their political history, there was a scandal that started surrounding their discord server they brung along with them when they joined EarthMC, named "Town of Morioh" at the time. The server had a few NSFW channels inside. The real issue outsiders took with this, however, was the insufficient security surrounding them. The only security to keep possible minors from viewing the content inside, according to Osoyan officials themselves was Discord's official protection, which only verifies that the user had set their account's age to over 18, alongside a "minor" role that the leaders would place on anyone they had suspicion of was a minor. The problem with both of these is that they did not prevent someone from lying about their age whatsoever, and as a result other Cascadians took issue. This culminated in a group chat argument between Osoyans and members of the Corgo Administration, where while Osoyans defended the security levels behind the NSFW channels, they eventually surrendered and deleted them that night. Regardless, this scandal would follow them throughout the rest of their time in Cascadia and even after their secession, particularly with Frontiersmen trashing on Osoyoos for it.

August Elections and Term

After this, Osoyoos would make their entrance to Cascadian politics in the August 2023 Elections. This election cycle was very unique, as in a total of eight candidates ran for president, the most ever, a record not met until the July 2025 elections. What made this election cycle unique for Osoyoos however is that not a single one of them had been in Cascadia long enough to run for President, including the oldest member, Karn4. As a result, they chose to back candidate PhantomXYZ, who would then go on to become a front-runner in the election and get the most first-preference votes, however was beat out by incumbent Social Democrat EmpressCorgo. This was extremely unexpected to the rest of Cascadia, as it was predicted that PhantomXYZ would actually be one of the worst performing candidates in the election, due to being considered by many to be inactive.

Throughout the August 2023 term, Osoyoos would focus on the Rocky Mountain Brotherhood, as well as growing their faction outside of the original friend group. It was during this time that they gained extra members, including xHydre, Rodekeel, Orbit2510, YoOscar, and others. They also grew closer with the Frontier faction, often spending time together in voice chats on the Frontier discord. Much of the term was marked by tensions with the RMB, the unpopular Treaty of Walterston, and Project Nation Shop. As a result, the rest of the August term was relatively uneventful and quiet, however political stability still had declined since before the botched RMF buyout.

Late History and Secession

September Election

Unlike the August Elections, Osoyoos was able to put up their own presidential candidates this election, so as a result they put up Flatvent_One as their candidate. They also put up more representative candidates, most of which won, giving them decent portion of the seats in the House of Representatives. However, Flatvent_One would go on to lose the election to EmpressCorgo a second time, in a similar manner to the last election cycle, with Flatvent having the most first-preference votes, then being beat out by EmpressCorgo's final-preference votes, much of which was from the Frontier Faction, who had become wary of Osoyoos by this point. The silver lining for Osoyoos though is that two of them got to be in Corgo's cabinet, with Flatvent_One as the Secretary of Home Affairs, already having been an advisor beforehand, and Karn4 as the Secretary of Defense.

Feuds with Frontier and Jefferson

Immediately after the September elections, Osoyoos publicly scorned the Frontier as political enemies, accusing them of betrayal. They claimed that the Frontier violated a pact they made, that they would put each other's presidential candidates, Flatvent_One and Beamz30 in second-preference, which would boost both factions electorally above the Social Democrat faction of Cascadia. Frontier-supporting voters did not do this, mainly putting EmpressCorgo as their second preference vote instead of Flatvent. The Frontier denied such a pact ever being agreed to, and as it would have it, no evidence for such a deal has come up since. Regardless, Osoyoos supporters and leaders immediately started to spar with Frontier ones, in arguments in Cascadia's international general chat that would last thousands of messages over a couple days.

Both factions would appeal to the Corgo Administration to take their side, however EmpressCorgo elected not to take a side, at least at first. By this point, both factions were still neutral or even friendly with the Social Democrat faction. Regardless of this, EmpressCorgo sympathized with the Frontier side of the feud, believing Osoyoos's accusation to be erroneous and their agitation to be arbitrary. As EmpressCorgo's cabinet included both Frontiersmen and Osoyans, her cabinet would be ideologically split this term, and entrenched, toxic arguments would spring in the cabinet chat, something that was and continues to be extremely rare in Cascadia's cabinet chats. Eventually, EmpressCorgo had enough and fired Flatvent_One from her cabinet on October 5th, replacing him with GreshamBTW, who was another Osoyan, but less agitating to the other cabinet members.

In an incident on September 30, one or more Osoyans visited the Jeffersonian capital of Fresno, where one Osoyan criticized the quality of the builds there, possibly outright shit-talking them. In response, Rocksthunder, the leader of the nation, snapped back by referencing Town of Morioh's unsecured NSFW channels. Osoyoos took grave offense to this, believing it to imply that they were pedophiles. As a result, Osoyoos considered Jefferson to be an enemy because of this, and believed that Cascadia should declare war on and conquer the nation. They even drafted a bill to declare war on Jefferson entirely, however this failed to pass the House of Representatives by a wide margin, with the President likely to veto it even if it did. This was in contrast to the official relations between the two nations, as Cascadia and Jefferson were close allies and both governments regularly convened. Both the Social Democrats and Frontiersmen believed Osoyoos's grudge to be ridiculous, and it was one of the main contributing factors to the Corgo Administration finally growing tired of the faction, and choosing to fully oppose them later on.

Throughout October, both sides would take shots at each other's reputation, with the Frontier slinging accusations of Osoyoos being filled with "creeps" and "sexual deviants", citing Town of Morioh's now-deleted NSFW channels. Frontier would also refer to Osoyoos as ideological extremists, particularly accusing them of fascism, leaking recordings of voice chats to the Corgo Administration where Osoyan leaders said to "get the cringe people out", in an attempt to get the Corgo Administration on their side. Osoyan leaders would also leak to the Corgo Administration plans by the Frontier to secede from Cascadia assisted by North_Paso, which was leaked by North_Paso himself. However, the Corgo administration didn't take offense to the gesture, as the plan was several months ago by this point and had been abandoned very quickly. By the week of the October 2023 Elections, the Corgo Administration was fully on the side of the Frontier, believing Osoyoos's imperialist ideas and hints at authoritarianism to be a threat to the nation, alongside being tired of needing to hold back the faction from escalating relatively minor incidents with other groups.

October Election and Secession

The buildup to the October Election was tense, and extremely chaotic, as the nation was divided between Osoyoos and a coalition between Social Democrats and Frontiersmen. Osoyoos championed being for invading Jefferson, making a better deal with the RMB, whom they were friendly with by this point, and heavily criticized the Frontier and Social Democrats for being "cowardly". On the other hand, the Frontier's candidate, Beamz30, simply went with the usual Frontier policies of the time, although being vehemently Anti-Osoyoos. The Social Democrat candidate, incumbent EmpressCorgo, also continued her usual policies of economic development, however adding pacifism, heavily criticizing Osoyoos for their imperialism and anti-democratic hinting, praising her and the Frontier's presidential ticket as "a vote for sanity". Heated discussions plagued the election, with Osoyan leaders hinting at undemocratic ideals, however possibly sarcastic. There was also another presidential candidate, named YoOscar, who was Osoyoos-Aligned, however did not gain traction and would go on to only get a tiny fraction of the vote.

On the night of October 22, the voting period had passed, and SayerQT started to count votes. By XX:XX PM ET, she had completed the counting, and around 20~ people gathered in a nation-wide voice chat to watch the election results, including members from all factions. The election results were revealed by live messages in a dedicated channel, and Sayer had started the process of this at XX:XX PM ET. In the presidential results, first-preference votes had Osoyoos with a near majority of the vote, with EmpressCorgo and Beamz30 trailing behind. YoOscar's small voting pool was then redistributed, with one vote going to Flatvent_One, and one going to EmpressCorgo. Then finally, Beamz30 was eliminated, with every single vote of his going to EmpressCorgo, bringing EmpressCorgo and Flatvent_One to a perfect tie, requiring a house vote for one candidate to win.

Osoyoo's immediate reaction was of extreme anger, and they decided to hold a speech in their hometown of the same name, of which around a dozen came. It was revealed by Milgorn123 however that the platform the audience stood on was actually a carpet trap. Because of his actions, only a single person died to the trap, and he was later awarded with the Cascadian Medal of Freedom. In the voice chat, Osoyan leaders in extreme anger denounced Cascadia, complained about Cascadia's electoral system, the Single Transferable Vote, and announced their secession from Cascadia to start a nation in Africa, later known to be Chad, which happened immediately after.

Alucart, a leader within the movement, is widely known for declaring in a well known quote:

"Alrighty ya'll it's been fun while it lasted but imma be real, that election proved that some of you people are fake fellas. I'm out. Good luck on y'all's next election cuz you guys are gonna need it!"

The Osoyoos Secession happened throughout the night and into the next day. At 12:07:45 AM, the first town to secede, Mt. Constantinople led by Thither138 left. 30 seconds after at 12:08:11 AM, Baroque Works, Flatvent's town left the nation followed by Osoyoos itself just 3 seconds later. They were then followed by Grande Furry a minute later at 12:09:14 AM. At 12:22:20, Orbit2510 left the nation under Fairview. At 12:25:41, Alucart founded the first town of what would become the main metropolitan area of Chad, named "Akenuts" at the time of founding. After this, Rodekeel's town of Windhelm and Sierra Vista under YoOscar would leave later on.

A few Osoyan towns temporarily joined Nuevo_Leon, however most would very quickly leave to start the nation of Chad in central Africa. YoOscar under Sierra Vista seceded, however did not join Chad. A few Osoyoos-aligned players and mayors who were not as deep within the faction would stay, most notably xHydre, who would go on to found the Cascadian Communist Party with xStoicx, and later secede with NWT, fighting in the Cascadia-NWT War. Osoyoos proper would be rolled back a few days later by EMC Staff as per Karn4's request. By October 24th, the secession was completed, and Osoyoos would begin to build the nation of Chad.

Aftermath of Secession

Most of those within Cascadia rejuvenated in response to Osoyoos's secession, believing them to have been a major threat to the nation's democracy and even security, as Flatvent had admitted they were planning to steal the entirety of the nation's bank if he had won, as they were seceding. Cascadia's population and activity Experienced a significant dip, with Cascadia's population experiencing a low of 178 from 280~, not experienced since the foundation of the nation itself. The fact that Osoyoos not only seceded, but left the region entirely, was seen as a major positive to Cascadia, as it prevented Cascadia from going into civil war and losing territory. The secession was said to be the second best possible outcome for Cascadia concerning Osoyoos, behind them quitting the server entirely. However, these views were not expressed by the government publicly as to avoid foreigners from viewing the events as government repression. Osoyoo's short but storied existence is often considered to be Cascadian Democracy's greatest test yet, one which Cascadia narrowly passed.

Though the nation kept growing after the secession, activity was lower and as a result, the October term was relatively uneventful excluding the merger of Jefferson into Cascadia. This would actually lead to Chad, who were made up of the seceded Osoyans, surpassing Cascadia in population for a very short period in December. However, by the time of the Wagner War Cascadia's population and activity increased back to pre-secession levels, and would continue to grow after that.

Many of the towns within Chad followed similar naming practices to their towns in Cascadia, with a capital called Osoyoos, Flatvent_One founding a town named Baroque Works again, and the same so for Thither138 and his Mt. Constantinople. The majority of Osoyoos who founded Chad would later seek revenge on Cascadia, accusing SayerQT of having rigged the election results in favor of EmpressCorgo, albeit unfounded. This resulted in them starting the Wagner War, eventually leading to multiple other nations such as Texas joining in. Chad would permanently decline in activity during the later stages of the Wagner War, eventually disbanding some time in spring of 2024. After this, they would resettle in Germany, eventually scattering or quitting the server throughout the rest of 2024.

Ideology & Organization

Organization

Osoyoos was very collectivist, and as a result, tended to be more organized than the two other major political factions at the time. They voted in a very unified manner, employing heavy vote whipping from the discord they brought along with them when they originally came to Cascadia, even requiring some members to screen share themselves voting to leadership in order to make sure they voted correctly. As a result, SayerQT remarked about it during revealing the October election results, saying "Shout out to Osoyoos for all voting the same though, made it faster to calculate,". This vote whipping gave them a boost over the Social Democrat and Frontier factions in first preference votes, who did not do this, or at the very least not at nearly the same scale Osoyoos did. This is also what led to Osoyoos performing so comparatively poorly in final preference votes, never gaining more than two votes ever by then. Generally, Karn4 and Flatvent_One were the two main leaders of the faction, however Flatvent would be the one to run in Presidential elections. Outside of this, other lower, but still important leaders within the party included Alucart, Thither, Orbit2510 and Nephi_UwU_oWo earlier on.

Imperialism

Osoyoos was very imperialist, generally supporting the military expansion of Cascadia into an empire. This was particularly shown in their altercations with Jefferson, who was Cascadia's southern neighbor at the time. Osoyans hated it's leader, Rocksthunder, and wanted to conquer his nation. However everyone outside of Osoyoos completely rejected this idea, simply suggesting that the status quo be upheld, being a close alliance to Jefferson. Regardless, altercations between Osoyans and Jeffersonians were not uncommon in the later days of Osoyoos, and harassment of Rocksthunder in global chat was commonplace among Osoyan leadership. Osoyoos also generally supported raising a PvP army to protect Cascadia from hunters, as well as help in war, such as against Jefferson.

Ultranationalism

In combination with imperialism, Osoyoos was very nationalistic, not just for Cascadia, but for their in-group as well. They, as a result, would put those not within their group down, including Frontiersmen, and occasionally Social Democrats. They also disliked those who did not use microphones in voice chats, believing it to be harmful to the activity of Cascadia. This was one of their main criticisms of EmpressCorgo, the President throughout their existence and prominent Social Democrat, who refused to use microphones in voice chats, opting for Milgorn123 to act as her voice at debates. They also had a distrust toward those they would refer to as "Discadians", Cascadians who were mainly active on discord instead of ingame, whether perceived or real. This was particularly levied at people such as EstiQT and SayerQT, who fit the term's description. The term, which was invented by them, would later become part of the political lingo of populists such as Setrus in the spring of 2025, who used it in the same fashion.

Osoyoos took insults to the nation and especially their in-group to heart, escalating conflicts very quickly, such as with Jefferson and the Frontier.

Christian Nationalist Faction

A section of Osoyoos, nearly all of which residents in the now-defunct town of Mt. Constantinople were devout Orthodox Christians. As a result, these people, mainly Thither138 and Ayashii, would promote a christian take on the Osoyan Ideology, mainly to promote Orthodox Christianity within Cascadia. However, due to the fact that enforcing theocratic principles is both unconstitutional and impractical in the settings of Cascadia and Minecraft, this would lead to very little in terms of actual difference of policy, although the town would be accused of homophobia at some points.

*Due to the tie, under the Representation of the People Act, the election was decided by the newly-elected House of Representatives between Flatvent_One and EmpressCorgo. EmpressCorgo would win this with nine votes to Flatvent's one, partly due to the fact that 5 of the Osoyan representatives, and Flatvent himself, had resigned and left the country by this point.
