The Commonwealth of America, commonly known simply as America, is a country and sovereign state located in North America on Terra Nostra. It has a geography characterized by the Great Plains and the front range of the Rocky Mountains in the west, the Great Lakes and the Ohio River Valley in the nation's heartland, and extending through the Appalachian uplands of Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia to the Mid-Atlantic coast of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In addition to its contiguous territory, the nation holds several non-contiguous exclaves, including strategic coastal corridors along the Chesapeake Bay and New England. With a total active population of 1,152 as of August 4, 2026, America is the most-populous nation in the world, constituting over a third of the population of North America. The capital of the Commonwealth is Milwaukee, with its largest cities being Philadelphia, Fort Wayne, and St. Willis. It is the third oldest nation in North America.
The Commonwealth of America operates as a unitary social democratic republic under the Commonwealth Constitution, with executive authority vested in a president directly elected on a monthly basis. The president of the Commonwealth is one of the most visible and influential elected political offices on Terra Nostra. The Constitution establishes a separation of powers among legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The Congress is the unicameral national legislature consisting of the House of Representatives, elected via proportional representation. The Commonwealth is divided into 27 regions and 167 municipalities for administrative and statistical purposes.
A developed country, America consistently ranks high in measures of activity, wealth, and opportunity. It is the third-largest economy on the server, with relatively low wealth inequality. Shaped by many different communities and groups, America is a diverse nation, and is a member of various international agreements such as the Memphis Accords serving to maintain peace in Eastern North America.
Etymology
While America's short name is common between several of its historical nearby neighbors, such as the former USA based in Delaware and the United States Empire based in Atlanta, its official name does not begin with the prefix "United States", as it does not possess a federal system. Instead, it is officially the Commonwealth of America due to its roots as a social democratic state.
People from the Commonwealth of America are typically referred to as Americans, however sometimes the term "Commonwealther" is used, either to distinguish them from other nations that use the same demonym, or as a pejorative, such as during the war between the Commonwealth and the USA.
History
Prehistory
Throughout the entire server's history, North America has been home to several superpowers, such as the two iterations of Cascadia on Terra Nova and Terra Aurora,
Despite the fact that the country of America was not created at the start of Terra Nostra, plans to create what would become the modern day Commonwealth of America existed since March of 2026 according to the age of the American Discord.
Founding and early Commonwealth
In the two days between the server's opening to premium members and the country's establishment, what is now America's territory was home to several planned but unfulfilled states, notably the Confederacy of the Ohio River, Minnesota, and Pan-America. The United States Empire, a nation that was once favored to take over much of the continent, also claimed important territories such as Virginia and Maryland, however their plans to take control of this region were never fulfilled, and as such it has largely become a rump state based in the Deep South.

American Civil War
In June 2026, the town of Delaware came under fire from the rest of America for trapping and scamming several players, both American and foreign, causing the House of Representatives to expel them from the nation. Unlike what the American government expected, the town of Delaware decided to form a rival nation known as the United States of America...often shortened to simply the USA, and claimed itself as the "true owner" of America. Around this time, the USA was mainly led by three players: Conleft, HasanHasa, and Zombot3000.
After the USA expanded to several towns across the eastern seaboard, war began as Delawarian forces created a claimblock near the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania City. The Battle of Philadelphia resulted in an American victory, however despite this the USA continued gaining ground after purchasing the city of Baltimore due to an argument between thearbysworker and the then-mayor, ScFish15. In an attempt to end the war, a treaty was signed between America and the USA on July 11th, however this treaty ultimately failed as both sides accused the other of not holding up their end of the treaty.
After a terrorist attack destroyed much of St. Willis, American forces moved to decisively end the war through the Vither State campaign. The ultimate Battle of Vither State resulted in the death of much of the USA's leadership, and ended the war as an American victory.
Unrelated to the war, a 20,000 block ice bridge spanning from Turtle Beach, off the coast of Massachusetts, to Portugal, began construction before the beginning of August. Primarily built by YouTuber Turtleundercover, it at first began as a Delawarian project before the town was bought out by America after the end of the war[1][2]. As of this present moment it is still under construction.
Postbellum
Following the American victory against the Turkish-led USA in the Battle of Vither State on August 2nd, a large portion of the defeated faction's player base quit, and the nation was put up for sale for 15,000 gold. The in-game nation was subsequently established as an independent and sovereign nation under 4KayP7. That same day, HibachiBeamz and 4KayP7 assisted in repurchasing Lancester, which was renamed West St. Willis, for the Commonwealth. This was soon followed by the recovery of Pennsylvania City on August 4th and Baltimore on August 5th, also funded by HibachiBeamz and 4KayP7. The USA subsequently disbanded its government operations after being transferred to 4daniel, who then sold it to EthanTheParrot for 11,500 gold.
Flippizzacake, veteran of the American Civil War and President of America, resigned from office three days before the August 2026 general election for unknown reasons, causing his Vice President, Bachinuni, to be sworn into office. During his relatively short term, he created the G.O.A.T. medal, before awarding it to HibachiBeamz, JoeSheisty, and Beefour for their performance in the 9th EFL Super Bowl, and ordered the construction of a memorial statue for the player Paradox_1080.
The August 8th election saw former Vice President HibachiBeamz, who served in the early part of Flippizzacake's term, become President with 62.9% of the votes, however thearbysworker, who had been campaigning for President since the July elections, gained his best share of the vote yet, with 37.1%. Early in HibachiBeamz's term, the "Two-Hour War" broke out, a "friendly war" between America and Acadia that mainly served as recreation and to resolve tensions over the assassination of their President, kat_ie.
America signed a non-aggression pact with Eire on August 14th[3].
Chicago crisis
After the resignation of Sayerleft from American politics, which resulted in a power struggle between Milwaukee and Chicago for the status as the nation's spawn and capital, Chicago, the largest city in the country, seceded from America under Setrus, the mayor of the city. Initially joining New York to earn a bonus in creating its own nation, it became the capital of the newfound nation of Heartlands, which was later renamed to Nostra:Chicagoland. This subsequently resulted in a nationwide political crisis that has also seen the towns in New Jersey and near Pittsburgh leave, beginning the nadir of American stability and political power.
The secession of Chicago and New Jersey, both of whom temporarily joined New York, also sparked an international crisis as Texas issued condemnations of New York itself, Acadia, and also Quebec for "taking advantage" of the collapse. This led to counter-condemnations, and the near outbreak of war.
The situation eventually recovered, though, and contrary to what was anticipated, America did not completely collapse. Pittsburgh made the decision to rejoin the nation, alongside its neighbors.
Recent history
Due to the lasting effects of the Chicago crisis and the general disdain for the current American political establishment and culture, heavy administrative reform is currently underway, albeit unclear.
Government
According to its constitution, the Commonwealth of America is a self described "unitary, constitutional, presidential, and social democratic republic" with a government system that takes place from several pre-existing democratic states on the server such as Terra Aurora's Cascadia. Despite its official unitary nature, municipalities within the country have significant rights to govern themselves as long as their governance does not conflict with laws set by America's national government.
A presidential state, the Commonwealth has a three-way separation of powers between the legislative, executive, and juridicial branches of government. The legislative branch, Congress, is unicameral, consisting of a sole House of Representatives. The 15 members of the House of Representatives are directly elected from three electoral districts: Eastern, Great Lakes, and Western, with each district having a proportional amount of seats to its part of the national population (albeit at a minimum of two representatives per district). The executive branch consists of the Executive Council, led by the president, who is the head of state and chief of government of the Commonwealth of America.

Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of America is the highest court, constitutional tribunal, civil court, and trial-level court of general jurisdiction in the national judiciary of the Commonwealth of America. It has ultimate original jurisdiction over all national court cases if a matter is raised to the court relating to the National Constitution of the Commonwealth of America or laws of America, and over town court cases that involve a point of American constitutional or national law; and it also has inferred appellate jurisdiction over cases settled in local tribunals or courts. The court holds the power of judicial review, the ability to invalidate a statute for violating a provision of the Constitution. It is also able to strike down presidential directives for violating either the Constitution or statutory law, and the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. However, it may act only within the context of a case in an area of law over which it has jurisdiction, unless the President uses their authority to refer a passed law to the Supreme Court to evaluate its constitutionality before the President decides to sign it.
The Court is composed of 4 sitting Justices, with a Chief Justice who serves as the administrative head of the American judiciary. The Chief Justices' duties shall include the assignment of Justices to specific Circuit cases, the designation of authors for the Court’s majority opinions, and the management of the Supreme Court's docket to ensure a fair, speedy, and free trial. Assisted by three Associate Justices, all sitting members of the Court are appointed by Presidential nomination with legislative confirm and consent with bimonthly retention elections

Regions

Military
America does not possess a standing army, with the closest resembling such being the National Guard and citizen militias that can be formed at any given moment by the President. Despite this, the American armed forces are among the strongest on the continent due to sheer numbers and the flexibility of the citizen militia approach, allowing both PVP and non-PVP oriented players to attend battle given circumstance. As per the Constitution of the Commonwealth of America, the President is the commander-in-chief of the National Guard and any citizen militias, being able to call them into service upon necessary military action.
While America rejects offensive war in its constitution, the American armed forces have seen conflict in both the American Civil War and the Two-Hour War.
Buildings
America possesses some of the largest and tallest buildings on the server, with the Tel Aviv Tower in Israel, standing at 192 meters in total, making it as of current the tallest building in America. However, this may soon change as Philadelphia, the largest city in America, is further developed without the stunted growth caused by the recent Civil War. The Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia, totaling 183 meters in height, takes second place, while 1 Liberty Place in the same city also follows closely behind the Technology Center at 182 meters. Additionally, several spaces for entertainment and tourism have been built across the country, in particular several monuments across Milwaukee, the historical museum in Wokelandia, and the aquarium in Asheville, the only aquarium on the server.
