Overview
Rupert's Land is an isolationist empire located on the west coast of the Hudson's Bay. Beginning as a duo of wandering explorers on a trek westward, the pair eventually settled at an abandoned mine and began recruiting ambitious travelers with the hope of one day becoming a great nation. Not much is known of Rupert's Land due to their obscurity, however, the nation had had a reputation for violence, racism, homophobia and banditry that had historically been carried out by their army- the Northwest Militia. The nation had historically been rich in gold, resources and military might, using guerilla hit-and-run tactics in times of war, and utilizing a large wall and trench around the entire capital city for defense. Though today, they suffer from inactivity among residents and several collapsed towns, and aren't heard much of in the current era.
History
Little is known about the activities and history of Rupert's Land due to its obscurity and isolationist policy, and what is known is indistinctly documented.
Early History
The Founding
The capital city, Northwest Co. was founded on September 8th, 2019, by 754 and 268. The two founders journeyed west from the Himalayas, enduring the rough terrain of Asia, fending off numerous attacks from nearby nations, and finally traversing the Atlantic ocean before settling on the west coast of the Hudson's Bay. Northwest Co. later developed into the nation of Rupert's Land on October 19th, 2019.
Recent History
Cascadian War
Since its inception, the international activities of Rupert's Land have almost exclusively included military engagements with other towns and nations. Earlier battles include skirmishes with the city of Albuquerque, led by the former Mayor of Helio Jartavious, usually fought outside the walls of Northwest Co. prior to nationhood. Soon after, Rupert's Land engaged in a rather open political and military rivalry with Norway, Niger and the New York town of Saint-Jerome. Norwegian sieges and attacks on Northwest Co. led by MrAustino_ were commonplace, while guerilla attacks carried out by the Northwest Militia against Saint-Jerome were known to occur. Rupert's Land was also embroiled in a war with their western neighbor- Cascadia, with the goal of halting all Cascadian expansion into Canada. The Northwest Militia started by carrying out numerous raids into the Pacific coast of Cascadia, killing all Cascadian citizens and livestock in their path. The Cascadian province of Athabasca had been the main target of such attacks, causing Cascadia to lose access into all of their land holdings east of British Columbia. Shortly after, the town of Iron City, which had been harassed by the Northwest Militia for weeks, replaced some of the animals lost in the raids and joined Cascadia as a province. Iron City was funded by the Cascadians into becoming the nation of Central Canada in order to threaten the southern Rupertian border. This culminated in the Battle of Iron City, where a large Rupertian army assaulted the Central Canadian capital, and slaughtered the defending force. Shortly after, Cubs of North Rio ambushed and killed several survivors of the battle, but most Rupertians managed to escape.
Not long after the engagement, High Bishop Skildo and Iron Councillor IsabelleIzzy of Central Canada negotiated peace terms, which resulted in a secure southern border and the Central Canadian exit from Cascadia. More raids into Cascadia were conducted, which put significantly more pressure on President Barbay1 to accept the crippling peace terms that Rupert's Land had repeatedly put forth, but were denied every time. Ultimately, Barbay was impeached only a few weeks into her term, as she fought back against Rupert's Land economically rather than militarily- specifically by placing an embargo on the Canadian Union. Beepsky, her successor, only lasted a week in office, before Estonian_Mapping was elected president. Throughout the war, many more skirmishes and small engagements took place all over western Canada, with Rupert's Land coming out victorious every time. However, due to the Syndicate-CU War, the Cascadian War went quiet. Shortly into 2020, a white peace was agreed upon between King 754 and President Estonian Mapping, bringing the war to an end with a Rupertian victory.
The Canadian Union and the Northwestern Syndicate
Near the end of November, 2019, Rupert's Land was invited to the Canadian Union. Despite declining on other occasions, the Royal Council accepted this new offer, solidifying peace between the nations of Canada and securing the eastern Rupertian border. Though, many would be offput by the personality of many members of Rupert's Land, most of which consisted of Skildo, whom would routinely become racist and homophobic, often in humorous situations. As such, throughout Rupert's Lands's tenure in the Union, the nation was repeatedly under-represented in parliament, politics, and overall decision-making. It didn't take long for the Rupertians to realize that the true power of the Canadian Union was not in the nations that made up the organization, but rather was in the hands of the leaders of Quebec and Avalon. Upon this realization, those in Rupert's Land began acting more aggressive towards those in the union than they had before, which only heightened tensions between the two. The Royal Council seemed to be declining new Union bills and ideas on a regular basis due to the disregard for Rupertian sovereignty that was present in the alliance. In spite of the poor treatment of Ruperts's Land by the Canadian Union, the organization still heavily relied on the Northwest Militia as part of their army due to the disorganization and military weakness that had been rampant in eastern Canadian nations.
Eventually, the tensions reached their breaking point in mid-December of 2019, when Rupert's Land betrayed the Canadian Union at the Battle of Slavington, and along with Chancellor Tyce of Inuvik, formed the Northwestern Syndicate- which included eight nations at its peak (Rupert's Land, Inuvik, Somerset, Alaskan Empire, Nunavut, Slave, Athabascan, Dakota). The Syndicate quickly declared war on the Canadian Union, carrying out several raids and assassinations throughout Quebec, Avalon and Canada. The Syndicate had appeared to defeat the Union within weeks, forcing them to kick several nations out of their alliance and ultimately, causing them to join Britain as a protectorate state.
The Fall of Rupert's Land
By mid-January, it became apparent that there was something greater at play. Slave, a nation that had been kicked out of the Canadian Union, ruled by JBGoose had slowly rose up the ranks in The Syndicate, until he became the elected Leader of the The Syndicate. He used his powers to get The Syndicate in several small conflicts with other powers, causing Inuvik and Rupert's Land to leave. It was later revealed that, JBGoose was actually a spy sent from the Canadian Union to dismantle The Syndicate. JBGoose convinced the remaining nations to join the newly-formed Canadian Empire, leaving Inuvik and Rupert's Land on their own.
As Rupert's Land was still recovering from the blow from Slave, it would suffer another. Skildo and ozzy549 would leave Rupert's Land and move abroad, with Skildo leaving for Parthia in central asia, and ozzy549 leaving for Russia. Many of the remaining towns would either fall or secede, with those seceding splitting into four different nations. Over time, Rupert's Land would become less relevant, with the remaining citizens growing bored with the server and conducting considerably less conflicts. Many nations would steal Rupert's Land territory as they weren't able to fight back. At the beginning of 2020, Rupert's Land had thirty-four towns and 215 residents. By the end of 2020, Rupert's Land had lost 88% of their territory, only holding onto four towns in total now, and they would also lose 97% of their population, leaving them with a small sample size of six; not enough to conduct their own government, which the Royal Council required nine players in order to govern. This left Rupert's Land in a state of freezing cold inactivity that continues to this day. Without a government, the nation could not declare war. With Skildo leaving Rupert's Land, The Church of the West sank in membership, with less members now than fingers on the average hand. Gold fell too, as with less citizens to tax and half of it going with Skildo and ozzy549. The Northwest Militia was no longer a Militia, a military force raised from the surrounding population, but a government organization ran by two people. Today, Rupert's Land is still remembered by those involved in conflicts with them, which a majority can say that they strongly dislike them, but with older EarthMC players quitting, even opinions negative of Rupert's Land are fading away. Will Rupert's Land return? Probably not, but the impact that they had on the continent and nations that they birthed make up an integral part of the Turmoil Era, and it's likely another nation will take their place.
Expansion
On October 24th, 2019, the former second district of Rupert's Land known as York Factory was created after a summit between Northwest Co. and former Chinese citizen MonChatSePique- who became the first mayor.
On the same day, King 754 and Saskatoon Mayor snump began talks of joining Rupert's Land. Not long after, Saskatoon left its former nation of Deseret and became the third district of Rupert's Land.
On November 3rd, 2019, Mayor Floppyboi of a former small northern coastal Canadian settlement called Fort Churchill requested to join Rupert's Land. The request was shortly accepted by King 754, and Fort Churchill became the fourth district of Rupert's Land.
Later on November 3rd, 2019, Royal Councillor xking_dudex left Northwest Co. to establish the former western Canadian city of Moose Jaw, where Christ the Redeemer still stands.
In the earliest moments of November 4th, 2019, Mayor Sucram27 of the former town Fantastic Dragon was approached by King 754, 268 and Skildo. Talks of joining Rupert's Land quickly began, and moments later Fantastic Dragon became the sixth Rupertian district.
On November 8th, 2019, 268 approached the former town of Whale Cove asking if they would be interested in joining Rupert's Land. Mayor TunaTiger joined shortly after.
Shortly after midnight on November 9th, 2019, two new districts were added to Rupert's Land. Royal Councillor 268 left Northwest Co. and established a small town in northern Ontario called Bearskin Lake, and a warrior named _Ahegao established a former fortress town in west Rupert's Land called Fort Severn.
On November 11th, 2019, 268 and ozzy549 approached the Ontario ex-town of Alagasia to convince their mayor- Philliesfan- to join Rupert's Land. Negotiations got heated and eventually got violent, however, Saskatoon Mayor snump mediated between the two parties and an agreement was reached.
On November 13th, 2019, a northern Canadian former settlement called House, ruled by Mayor crustycucumberr, was sent an offer to join Rupert's Land, which the mayor quickly accepted.
On November 29th, 2019, a wandering salesman named Argaeus purchased House from crustycucumberr, refurnished it, renamed it to Gjoa, and shortly resold it to former Mayor enni_TNT.
In the early hours of December 1st, 2019, High Bishop Skildo and Mayor Rajesh_Raj of the former town New Toronto held talks on the possibility of the coastal town joining Rupert's Land. After initial hesitance, Mayor Rajesh_Raj changed his mind, and New Toronto became the a Rupertian town.
On December 2nd, 2019, a resident of Fort Churchill named BigSnapz resettled the fallen Rupertian town formerly known as Fort Severn. The revived ex-town was named Reindeer Lake, where AleksIshBakk acted as a mayor until going inactive.
On December 4th, 2019, an altar boy from the Church of the West cathedral in Northwest Co. named Ballistic_Baby was sent to the westernmost border of Rupert's Land to create a border fortress. The former town of Drumheller was quickly created and expanded, and used to be ruled by Mayor Ballistic_Baby.
On the night of December 6th, 2019, Fort Churchill mayor Floppyboi sent one of his long-time residents OddballCX to create a former town called Thompson. OddballCX acted as mayor until he went inactive.
In the early morning of December 11th, 2019, DredgenHope of Derelicts Haul approached Mayor Floppyboi asking to join Ruperts Land. Mayor Snump of Saskatoon then began talks with Mayor DredgenHope of the Somerset ex-colony Derelicts Haul, which had been sitting alone inside of former Rupertian territory for months. DredgenHope and his town joined Rupert's Land not long after.
On December 14th, 2019, Mayor 268 of Bearskin Lake accompanied three new Rupertian citizens to a site where a city was intended to be built, and the ex-town of Hardwood City was created by Mayor yyGhostkilleryy.
On December 16th, 2019, a Rupertian citizen known as Amikeo created the former town of Regina on the southern border of Rupert's Land to defend against expansion of the newly-founded nation of Central Canada. Later that day, Northwest Co. resident captain_coffee moved to western Rupert's Land to strengthen the border by creating the former town of Vodka.
On the evening of December 18th, 2019, a small independent ex-town inside of Rupertian borders- Democracy City- was invited to the nation by King 754 himself, to which Mayor s5i2lo quickly accepted.
Late into the night on December 19th, 2019, two Rupertian residents set out to form new towns. The first was Mayor Exabyte314, who formed the former town of Anomaly. Shortly after, Mayor dragondestor set up the ex-town of Wetweeki, in the same territory of former Rupertian town of Fantastic Dragon-which collapsed earlier that day.
On December 22nd, 2019, Regina resident EdisonTeMedicine moved to the eastern shores of Lake Winnipeg, and with the assistance of Bearskin Lake Mayor 268, established the former town of Aquarina.
On December 26th, 2019, a Regina resident named yellowpersia was escorted by High Bishop Skildo and Regina Mayor Amikeo to a central location in Rupert's Land to establish a new ex-town called Lac Brochet.
Shortly after the creating of Lac Brochet, the Slave ex-town of Nobody was ceded to Rupert's Land during peace negotiations, after Slave was defeated by the Northwestern Syndicate.
On the first day of the new year, Saskatoon resident BlazeGamerYT left his hometown to establish the central formerly Rupertian town of Bananaville, where he acts as mayor.
On the eve of January 2nd, 2020, a nationless traveler named McWiggan founded the former town of Prince Albert, just north of Saskatoon.
On January 6th, 2020, the original enemy of Rupert's Land (then-Northwest Co.), Jartavious, whom joined Bearskin Lake a few days prior, claimed the central Hudson's Bay island known as Coats Island, establishing the formerly Rupertian town of Helio.
On January 8th, 2020, Regina resident h3v left his hometown to create a new western border ex-settlement called Freelandia, where he acted as Mayor until he went inactive.
On January 12th, 2020, Mayor Snump of Saskatoon recruited Firefighters, who made a formerly Rupertian town known as Peawanuck in eastern Ontario not long after.
On January 19th, 2020, High Bishop Skildo carried out the Ontarian expansion of Rupert's Land, placing three towns in the region. Mayor YourEverydayJay created the former town of Oakington on the southeast coast of Lake Winnipeg, Mayor UnBeaten1 created the former town of Thunder Bay in the western Ontarian wilderness, and Mayor Sakoei, a long time Saskatoon resident, created the former town of Yoshimura where the former fallen Rupertian town of Alagasia once stood.
On January 30th, 2020, Bearskin Lake mayor 268 invited the newly-founded northern ex-town of Breifne to Rupert's Land- which was quickly accepted by Mayor DoYouEvenBanter.
On February 2nd, 2020, the mayor of the decisive Rupertian-Central Canadian border ex-town of Chilliwack- Joegie- approached Regina mayor Amikeo about his interest in joining Rupert's Land. He noted his poor treatment in Central Canada as his reason for wanting to leave- particularly by their leader Kidletz and even moreso by IsabelleIzzy. The Royal Council discussed the matter, and came to the conclusion that Chilliwack should join the nation- a decision which had led to political turmoil in Canada.
On February 5th, 2020, under the direction of Mayor 268, Saskatoon resident Specializations created the former town of Wintered on the abandoned site of Winterhold, with the hope of preserving the old Somersetian town.
On February 7th, 2020, Saskatoon resident Krytonator moved to the cold northern border of Rupert's Land to further settle the barren land, establishing the former town of Krytopolis.
On February 8th, 2020, another determined Saskatoon resident known as Alexthulhu travelled beyond Derelicts Haul to establish the formerly northern-most settlement in the nation- Arkham. This title now rests upon the shoulders of NorthwestCo, due to the collapse of the town.
On February 11th, 2020, former Russian settlers led by XDtrollinXD were permitted to form an ex-town known as SKYNET in northern Rupert's Land. Mayor XDtrollinXD had quickly transferred the mayorship to TheEnchantedFox and the town was renamed to Riveira.
On February 13th, 2020, Bearskin Lake resident GoldenDice scouted out a flat spot amidst the marshy land of central Rupert's Land, and formed the former town of Alfred.
Government
Rupert's Land is an Absolute Oligarchy, ruled equally by an unelected council of supposedly nine residents, though at times population decreases cause unfilled seats and inconclusive government affairs. This is done with a King to keep the council in order. Anyone not included in the core nine are subjects of the King, and are legally classified as serfs (with the exception of district mayors). Rupert's Land has no constitution, instead free reign was historically given to the Royal Council.
There are two branches of government: the Royal Council and the Clergy. As mentioned before, the Royal Council is seated by supposedly seven residents, with King 754 as the official leader (whom also typically holds veto power over the Council). All political, military and legal decisions have been historically made by the council, while economic policy is left to the individual, also known as Anarcho-Capitalism. The Clergy is in charge of the state religion, the Church of the West. The Clergy was run by a High Bishop, tasked with documenting Rupertian history, maintaining the cathedral, keeping all citizens of Rupert's Land loyal to the Church, and spreading the religion by any means necessary. The first High Bishop, Skildo, whom acted as a High Bishop during his time in Rupert's Land, has embraced a religious policy of racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and Christian extremism, which has led to a widespread distaste for Rupert's Land, and for Skildo in particular, whom has even had his Discord account suspended for such repetitive actions. Though, this could be disingenuous, as claiming to hate so many marginalized peoples, be it truthful or untruthful, would attract those who dislike Rupert's Land, and therefore, more targets to loot from with an excuse.
Military
The army of Rupert's Land- the Northwest Militia- is overseen by the Royal Council. A formal declaration of war or other significant war-related decisions require the unanimous consent of the Council, which isn't currently possible as the Council lacks enough members to do so. however each Councillor historically had the executive power to engage in small-scale skirmishes, battles, raids or duels without consent from the rest of the Council. The Kings power of veto is still usable in all military decision making. In unforeseen and/or immediate situations such as ambushes, sieges, uprisings or any surprise attack on the nation, an individual Councillor would act in response however they see fit, in order to quell the conflict as quickly as possible.
Due to the smaller numbers of the Northwest Militia in comparison to their enemies, their battle tactics had historically been very distinct and unique. When on the offense, they would utilize guerilla warfare tactics, usually sneaking up on their enemies and striking when least expected, followed by a quick organized retreat. Defensively, the impenetrable walls and massive trenches around Northwest Co. offered a significant homefield advantage. Most underprepared attackers have often been intimidated by the sight of the city's defenses and leave immediately, while larger and more powerful armies had been forced to siege the city rather than attack directly. However, due to the self-sufficiency of the city, sieges are often in vain. Individually, the warriors of the Northwest Militia have been historically skilled and well-equipped, which made small-scale engagements such as duels, or more commonly, raids on small settlements favorable for the Militia.
Diplomacy
Rupert's Land has very little active diplomacy, and very rarely deals with outside nations, due to inactivity, but has historically had a policy of isolationism, However, this alignment has received mild criticism, as Rupert's Land's actions towards other nations seemed very hostile, and not at all isolative. There are twelve, possibly more, nations the country had been openly against or at odds with at some point of time.
There had been twelve nations officially hostile towards Rupert's Land, as well as the entirety of the Canadian Union & Cascadia. These nations are Jin, Lithuania, White Russia, Norway, Saint-Jerome, Quebec, Avalon, Canada, Central_Canada, Cascadia, Ontario and Nyasa. Though, possibly more. However, many of these nations are no longer hostile towards them, as many of these conflicts have simmered down, or the nations simply no longer exist. The first two rivalries Rupert's Land had rooted back to the foundation of the former-Quebecois town of Saint-Jerome, where 754 and Skildo assassinated several residents and robbed them of their belongings. Soon after, Saint-Jerome and Norway established an alliance, and as a result, during the second attack on Saint-Jerome, the Norwegian known as MrAustino_ declared open hostilities with Rupert's Land. Norway led numerous attacks and ambushes on Rupertians, and had even launched multiple sieges on Northwest Co. itself. Meanwhile, Rupertian attacks on Saint-Jerome and surrounding Quebec settlements became increasingly common, the largest one being the third attack on Saint-Jerome where four Northwest Militiamen killed the Mayor of Saint-Jerome, ShowizZz and his second-in-command, ToxiczZz. Another incident that soured Rupertian-Quebecois relations came when the Northwest Militia repeatedly attacked long-time rivals who had recently settled in Quebec after being forced out of Northern Canada by the Militia. The true casus belli for declaration of hostility between Rupert's Land and Quebec was given when Skildo, 268, 754, and teckno41 faked the enslavement of Royal Councillor Bownar in an attempt to lure in and kill any good Samaritan who would attempt to free him. Not long after, three men, Lithuanian King TheLionRuler, a Quebecois leader known as Scorpionzzx, and the leader of Quebec- matthewcannon01 made an attempt to kill High Bishop Skildo and free Bownar from his staged kidnapping. As a result, Scorpionzzz was robbed and killed, while TheLionRuler and matthewcannon01 escaped with their lives. In response, Quebec declared Rupert's Land an enemy nation, and relations between the two countries ceased.
In the evening of November 6th, 2019, four Lithuanians led by TheLionRuler attempted a siege of the Rupertian town of Moose Jaw, and utilized intimidation tactics against Mayor xking_dudex. High Bishop Skildo quickly rushed to Moose Jaw's aid, and fired his Holy bow 'Shitslinger' at the Lithuanian aggressors, hoping to lure them out for a fight. After an arrow hit one of the attackers, rather than fight, they fled back to the confines of their nation, and declared Rupert's Land an enemy of Lithuania.
Another enemy of Rupert's Land is Jin. Tthe leader- Palikka95- has repeatedly acted with hostility toward Rupert's Land. All attempts at even affecting Rupert's Land in the slightest have failed miserably. Examples include: Palikka95 trapping High Bishop Skildo in a hole only for him to escape, Palikka95 trying to burn 268 to death but merely being laughed off, Palikka95 attempting to drown King 754 but being ruthlessly maimed in return, and many more attacks. Palikka95 declared Rupert's Land an enemy.
White Russia and Nyasa are enemies of Rupert's Land because they declared hostilities first, despite very little- if any prior relations.
Outside of rival nations, many individuals are openly hostile towards Rupert's Land.
Rupert's Land has historically been aligned with twenty-three nations: The Kalmar Union, British Columbia, North Rio, Louisiana, Rio Grande, the Outback, Shimazu North, Zerena, the Alaskan Empire, the Philippines, New Mexico, Nunavut, Inuvik, October Island, Patagonia, Central Canada, Dakota, Athabasca, Xia, Peru, Comanche, USSR, and Somerset. Though, it is to note that not many of these nations exist anymore, or have since unaligned themselves from Rupert's Land. The Kalmar-Rupertian alliance was formed in response to Norwegian hostilities, due to the long-time rivalry of border disputes, nationalism and war between Norway and the Kalmar Union. Not long after establishing their first alliance, Rupert's Land and British Columbia began talks, citing the importance of peace and unity between western Canadian nations, and putting an end to the increasingly concerning territorial dispute and borderline cold war between the two countries. Soon after, Rio Grande, North Rio, and Louisiana (then-Weston) all simultaneously approached Rupert's Land with proposals of alliance, despite the attack on Northwest Co. carried out by the three countries before Rupertian nationhood was achieved. Alliances with all three nations were quickly formed, and further North American unity was assured. After weeks of attempts to align, Rupert's Land and the Outback signed an alliance pact. Finally, in the early hours of November 7th, 2019, King 754 and Duke SgtCartoon of Kodiak (former Alaskan Empire) solidified an official alliance.
On November 27th, 2019, King 754 began talks with the Canadian Union after being approached by Governor-General Scorpionzzx. He cited the importance of Canadian peace with Rupert's Land- the former largest Canadian nation by landmass and the former third largest by population, after months of Rupertian raiding and attacks on what seemed to be everyone else. A compromise was met, and Rupert's Land joined the Union. However, due to the aforementioned events of the Syndicate-CU War, Rupert's Land was once again an enemy of the Union, until the aforementioned inactivity in Rupert's Land.
Transportation
Due to the rough terrain of Northern Canada, transportation between towns is quite difficult. The Northwest Highway Department had progressively constructed an Icerail throughout the Hudson's Bay area and the Prairies, which used to connect the majority of the towns in the nation, but with the recent inactivity of the company, many of these Icerails are griefed and broken.

Northwest Co. is the capital city and the first established district of Rupert's Land.
Saskatoon
Formerly a district of Deseret, Saskatoon is the third established district of Rupert's Land, ruled by Mayor snump.
Bearskin Lake
Bearskin Lake is the eighth established district of Rupert's Land, formed after 268 left Northwest Co. to begin the Rupertian expansion into Ontario, and now acts as Mayor.
