Schlaflose Nacht
Schlaflose Nacht, also known as Sleepless Night, was an event that unfolded in EarthMC on October 26th of 2020.
It began a few hours beforehand, when the server's queue world had unexpectedly encountered a hard crash. The main server was still online, players were going about with their normal business. Once players had noticed the server number steadily dropping, someone stood up and devised a plan.
"Why don't we all sleep?"
The idea was brushed off by most players online, only 30 at that time, but some took note of it and pushed the idea further. Eventually, the whole server got involved. The intent of the remaining players on the server was to sleep through the night, as a way of signifying unity to the rest of the community. One person involved had set up all the necessary beds in Oregon. The goal was nearly met, until a player, named "TheFrostys", was discovered as the last missing player in the collaboration.
TheFrostys was a member of Caucasia, whom at the time was allied with the Turkish Empire. During the collaboration between all remaining server members, down to 20 at that point, he was the last missing person.. After constantly trying to get his attention through the chat, most assumed he was AFK. At that point, it was a witch hunt. As he was underground, users were not able to find him through the server's DynMap. Instead, they looked at his resident profile and sourced the town he belonged in. Several players had spawned at the nation and made their way to Caucasia, swords in hand.
The location TheFrostys was in wasn't an illegal AFK pool. In fact, it was a simple storage room. However, he had an automated program which forced his character to jump non-stop. This was enough to trick the AFK timer and cause him to stay in-game.
Once it was discovered that he was using a bypass, a user by the name of "TwitchyTopHat" contacted the only staff member online at the time, CorruptedGreed. Aside from the choice wording he included in his report, this is what led to the next phase of the Sleepless Night.
After about 20 minutes of trying to glitch TheFrostys out of his hole, through means of potions, block-glitching and rodding, CorruptedGreed had kicked the user from the game. The chat had gone wild, everyone was ready for the final sunset before falling asleep. Everyone had spawned back to the location where all of our beds were and we waited for sunset.
Sunset arrived, everyone started to fall asleep, and then...
A broadcast.
"The server will be restarting immediately to fix queue"
The broadcast and subsequent restart was initiated by none other than CloakedEagle, one of the server Administrators.
The playerbase understood that they had to get the server repaired as soon as possible, so blame quickly shifted to TheFrostys for preventing the server from sleeping for the night.
An all out conflict ensued.
