Nova:Oregon (BetaPlain)

Oregon, officially the Republic of Oregon, was an attempted republic designed by BetaPlain. The nation was intended to be created via vote gold and a generous donation from the Cascadian treasury. The nation was endorsed by Estonian Mapping, however most of its planning was done by BetaPlain. The capital of Oregon was intended to be the town of Portland, which was already founded. The nation was never created because the town of Bend or Portland were not successful, and funding for the nation was never received from Estonian_Mapping.
History
Origins
During late 2019, player BetaPlain quickly became disillusioned with his town of Newburn, after many attempted but unsuccessful attempts at creating a nation. Estonian Mapping, president of Cascadia and looking to expand Cascadia's influence, contacted BetaPlain during this troubling time and offered that he would found the nation of Oregon via gold from the Cascadian treasury.
Early Planning
BetaPlain searched for a favorable location to found Portland, with the location of real-life Portland in mind. While searching on the map, BetaPlain found the previous location of Bend, a town that had been abandoned.
BetaPlain took it upon himself to personally survey the area, which he found favorable to found Portland at. BetaPlain was under the assumption that the town would expand North to reach the Columbia River.
Founding of Portland
BetaPlain acquired the 64 gold necessary to found Portland by unknown means. On 24 December 2019, the town of Portland was founded near the previous location of Bend, a small town that had existed a long time ago. BetaPlain decided to wait to found the nation of Oregon until the town had been developed further.
Problems with the Original Location
Ruins of Bend
After BetaPlain began the development of the ruins of Bend, a problem arose that the town was too far from nearby settlements, and the overambition possessed by BetaPlain for the town quickly made BetaPlain realize the reality of the situation, that he did not have the time, resources, or motivation to develop the town effectively.
Additionally, BetaPlain entered into the agreement to found Portland while not possessing the discipline or motivation necessary to continue projects in the town's location, resulting in a lack of productivity.
Location
BetaPlain's problems continued when the realization was made that the ruins of Bend were too far away from the Columbia River, which served as the basis for much of his plans for Portland. Eventually, development on Portland nearly completely ended and activity was limited to voting.
BetaPlain decided to expand the town North in a claim arm to the Columbia River. However, only a few days in, the cost to claim to the Columbia River from Portland's location was calculated, and it would require hundreds of gold, making it less expensive to create a new town at the desired location.
Estonian_Mapping
This section may be biased towards BetaPlain's point of view.
Despite the fact that Portland had not been developed much, BetaPlain looked to create the nation of Oregon, hoping it would incentivize himself to be more productive in the ruins of Bend.
BetaPlain requested the gold required to found Oregon from Estonian Mapping, but Estonian Mapping refused, citing that they did not have the required gold. BetaPlain reminded Estonian Mapping of their promise, but Estonian Mapping never gave BetaPlain any gold.
Solution to these Problems
BetaPlain figured the solution to both of the above problems was to recreate the town on the Columbia River. However, BetaPlain was not sure of this decision, which implored him to create a proposal in Portland's town discord to ask the community if the town should be moved.
The proposal had a unanimous yes vote, which reassured BetaPlain that his decision was better. On top of this, Estonian Mapping fully supported the decision, and asked BetaPlain to sell the town to a nearby resident, Chrysoprasus.
New Portland Location
On 8 February 2020, the town of Portland was renamed to Bend and was sold to player Chrysoprasus. On the same day, BetaPlain founded the new town of Portland on the Columbia River.
Problems Arise with the New Location
Early in the development of the new Portland location, BetaPlain noticed the local Kaye's National Park. BetaPlain asked about it on the Cascadian discord, and it was revealed to him that he was not allowed to build or remove anything in the national park without direct approval from the Secretary of Development.
Then Secretary of Development, DMKBoyz, did not respond when BetaPlain asked whether he was allowed to develop the land.
Other Developments
BetaPlain began development on creating quays on the side of the Columbia River, to prepare it for future development on either side while he was waiting for approval from the Secretary of Development.
Flag
BetaPlain never finalized a flag design for Oregon, but he knew he wasn't going to use the real-life Oregon flag. BetaPlain recognized that the beaver was used in many alternative flag designs for Oregon, and intended to use a beaver in his new flag designed.
BetaPlain contacted leader of Haida and fellow Cascadian, probably 32Oreo to design a flag. The two never came to an agreement and a flag was never designed.
End of the Oregon Idea
Portland was disbanded sometime later, ranging from a few months or weeks. Without funding from Estonian_Mapping, and without being able to expand the town due to Daye's National Park, BetaPlain disbanded the town and probably returned to Newburn.
Government
The government of the Republic of Oregon was intended to consist of a representative democracy similar to the United States. The government was intended to initially see BetaPlain as the first president, then to continue where all nation members could run for and vote for presidential candidacy.
BetaPlain intended to keep at least an influential role in the government, even if he was unelected President.
Military
BetaPlain did not plan an armed forces for Oregon, because protection would derive from the Republic of Cascadia.
Buildings
The town of Bend was intended to host some city buildings. Government buildings were intended to be created along the Columbia River.
