Nova:Bend (Chrysoprasus)

Bend, formerly Portland, was a town in Cascadia in the former location of Bend. The town was founded by BetaPlain on 24 December 2019, with intentions to form the nation of Oregon. However, due to the lack of proximity with other Cascadian towns and being too far away from real-life Portland's location, activity was sparse, resulting in the town being sold to player Chrysoprasus.
History
Early Planning
Early planning for Portland began when BetaPlain was dissatisfied with his town of Newburn and the fact that he was not able to fulfill his wishes to form the nation of Southwest Alaska. Player Estonian Mapping contacted BetaPlain during this troubling moment and asked if he could form the nation of Oregon for the Republic of Cascadia, as a new province. Estonian Mapping offered to fund the nation of Oregon via the Cascadian treasury, in an endeavor to expand Cascadia's political power within the region and its population.
BetaPlain chose a spot for Portland in the ruins of Bend, an old town that was disbanded a long time ago. BetaPlain chose the ruins of Bend due to its semi proximity to the real-life location of Portland, and the fact that the ruins could serve as a launch point to expand the town further.
BetaPlain personally inspected the ruins himself via the nation spawn in Astoria and made it clear to Estonian Mapping that the location was favorable to create a town. BetaPlain was under the impression that he would eventually raise enough gold to expand Portland to its real-life location.
Founding the Town
BetaPlain founded the town of Portland on 24 December 2019, however the source of the required gold is no longer known. BetaPlain quickly began development of the area where the town was, and preparations were made to create a town hall in the ruins of Bend, and a new shopping district, akin to his ideas for Newburn.
Initial Problems
Despite initial high hopes for the town, BetaPlain quickly lost motivation to continue to town due to a variety of factors. One of the most important factors however was the town's location, which quickly proved to be a problem.
The town's lack of proximity to the actual location of Portland made the town slightly hard to find on the dynmap and there was nothing stopping anyone from founding another town in Portland's real-life location.
On top of this, the capital of the Pacific Republic, Mount Rainier, was threatening Portland's claim to the Columbia River. Considering Cascadia's foreign relations to the Pacific Republic, BetaPlain contacted Estonian_Mapping the day he noticed, 1 February 2020.
Discord Server and Early Organization
BetaPlain began development of a discord server for Portland, which had inspirations from Newburn's discord server and the Cascadian discord server. BetaPlain developed a new system where town members could make proposals to the mayor via the discord server, and allow all town members to vote. It was during this time that BetaPlain also developed the Portland Metropolitan Area idea to be implemented into the new nation of Oregon, which BetaPlain wanted to create.
Claim Arm
BetaPlain sought to fix the imminent problem of claiming the real-life location of Portland via a large claim arm. However, BetaPlain's lack of gold made BetaPlain curious of the effective cost of claiming to the location, which prompted him to make a calculation. In this calculation, it was revealed that it would take hundreds of gold bars to claim all the way to Portland's real-life location, and that deleting the town and founding a new one would be cheaper. It was also at this point that BetaPlain ended his plans to develop the ruins of Bend, instead making designs for his town in Portland's real-life location.
Proposal to the Town
BetaPlain, not sure on what to do, made a proposal to the town on 8 February 2020 to delete Portland and recreate it at a more suitable location. This proposal received unanimous support, and support from non-residents of the town were considered. Shortly following this proposal, BetaPlain began saving vote gold for the creation of a new town, and player Estonian Mapping asked BetaPlain to rename Portland to Bend and sell it to a nearby player.
The Selling of Bend
With unanimous support both from within and outside the town, BetaPlain made the executive decision to sell the town to a local resident of the nearby area. On 9 February 2020, Portland was renamed to Bend and was sold to player Chrysoprasus.
