Second Crusade of EarthMC
The Second Crusade of EarthMC was a Crusade declared by the EarthMC Catholic Church against the Kingdom of Francia. The crusade began on July 3rd, 2021 after the excommunication of Thanamos and ended on September 15th 2021 with the signing of The Apostolic Accords. The conflict stands as one of the defining moments in EarthMC Nova’s history, characterized by large-scale military mobilization, significant human cost, sophisticated propaganda strategies, and enduring geopolitical repercussions across Europe.

History
Background
A Kingdom Divided: Fracture and the Struggle for Legitimacy in Francia
On March 14, 2021, following mounting internal tensions within France, the towns of Champagne, Auvergne, Dauphiné, Provence, and Normandy seceded and proclaimed the creation of the new nation of Francia, formally renouncing their oath of allegiance to King Cactusinapumpkin of France. This event marked the beginning of the French Civil War.
From its inception, the young Kingdom of Francia faced a significant legitimacy crisis. Lacking international recognition and struggling to assert itself on the European political stage, the new monarchy undertook numerous diplomatic initiatives, including outreach efforts toward states such as Finland. These attempts, however, yielded limited success.
Adopting a distinctly medieval and feudal roleplay framework, the Francian monarchy increasingly turned toward the Roman Catholic Church as a potential source of moral and political legitimacy. At a time when the Church was expanding its influence across EarthMC Nova, Francia multiplied symbolic and diplomatic gestures: papal visits were encouraged, banquets and official celebrations were organized, and episcopal appointments were supported in order to promote the spread of the Catholic faith within its territory.
Strategically, Francia sought to present itself as a defender and champion of Christendom in contrast to France, which it portrayed as "pagan" or "insufficiently aligned with the Christian order". By positioning itself as the legitimate Catholic kingdom in Western Europe, the Francian monarchy hoped to secure diplomatic backing and political recognition from the Holy See, thereby strengthening its claim to sovereignty on the international stage.
It was within this context that Francia undertook the construction of what was described as the largest cathedral in Christendom after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome: the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims. Beyond its architectural ambition, the project carried strong symbolic value, serving as a monumental affirmation of Francia’s Catholic identity and its claim to spiritual legitimacy.
Over time, the cathedral would come to embody the spiritual aspirations of the Francian monarchy and later emerge as a central symbolic stake in the tensions that ultimately led to the Second Crusade.
Between Two Thrones: The Church’s Strategy of Neutrality
Throughout 2020 and into early 2021, the EarthMC Catholic Church experienced a period of significant expansion. The Papacy multiplied international visits and public addresses, promoting a message centered on peace, mediation, and religious consolidation across the server. In various conflicts, such as the Philippine Civil War, the Church notably refrained from taking sides, instead calling for dialogue and compromise between the belligerents.
It was within this broader diplomatic framework that Pope Benedict XVII sought to address the growing instability in France. Rather than endorsing either Francia or the Kingdom of France, the Papacy attempted to initiate dialogue between the two factions, multiplying visits, communications, and symbolic gestures aimed at de-escalation.
However, this balanced posture was interpreted differently by each side. Francia increasingly viewed papal engagement as an opportunity to reinforce its own legitimacy. France, meanwhile, was deeply preoccupied with internal succession disputes and ideological tensions. At the time, segments of the French realm promoted a revival of pagan practices, including the controversial “Pissist” movement, which publicly distanced itself from Christian symbolism. In response, the Church supported efforts to re-establish Catholic structures within France, including the appointment of Karnakus as Archbishop of France and the construction of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris as a visible reaffirmation of Christian presence.
The Holy See thus adopted a dual-track approach. While it sought to maintain the Catholic faith in Francia, it simultaneously prioritized the evangelization and religious stabilization of France. The Vatican’s official line remained consistent: peace and compromise were to prevail over the elevation of any single “champion of Christendom.” The Church’s objective was not to legitimize one faction over the other, but to preserve unity within the broader Christian community of EarthMC Nova.
Ultimatum and Rupture: The Path to the Second Crusade
By mid-2021, a combination of personal, political, and religious tensions had created an increasingly volatile situation. King Thanamos was widely perceived as assertive and confrontational in his political style, while the Papacy maintained a policy of deliberate ambiguity and mediation. This divergence in temperament and strategy would prove decisive.
During the construction of Notre-Dame Cathedral of Reims, tensions escalated on the ground. French loyalist forces reportedly claimed a plot directly facing the cathedral site and constructed a deliberately provocative structure intended to obstruct and disrupt the architectural project. The incident was perceived by Francia as both symbolic harassment and a political challenge to its religious ambitions.
Further incidents compounded the deterioration of relations. Members affiliated with France allegedly disrupted religious services within Francian territory, including the use of invisibility potions to interfere with Catholic ceremonies. Despite mounting complaints, the Papacy declined to intervene directly, reiterating its commitment to compromise and non-partisanship.
From the Vatican’s perspective, its position remained precarious. The Church’s influence in both France and Francia was fragile, and overt alignment with one faction risked alienating the other. Maintaining equilibrium was therefore considered essential to preserving broader Christian unity.
However, escalating tensions on Discord and in diplomatic exchanges intensified the crisis. Thanamos formally demanded concrete action from Pope Benedict XVII, including public denunciations of France. The Pope refused, reaffirming the Church’s neutral stance.
Interpreting this refusal as a denial of the moral and political legitimacy he had sought, Thanamos moved decisively. On June 23, 2021, following a series of irreconcilable disputes, he rejected the authority of the Roman Church and proclaimed the establishment of the Apostolic Church as the sole legitimate church within Francia.
In response, Pope Benedict XVII excommunicated Thanamos. Subsequent negotiations failed to restore relations, and on July 4, 2021, Benedict XVII formally proclaimed the Second Crusade of EarthMC.
The second EarthMC Crusade war
Mobilization and Diplomatic Alignments
Following Pope Benedict XVII’s formal proclamation of crusade, a significant number of nations across EarthMC declared war on Francia. Major European powers, including the Eastern Roman Empire (GRE) and Spain, answered the papal call, rapidly consolidating what became known as the Crusader coalition. The immediate effect was the diplomatic isolation of Francia on the European stage.
In contrast, Francian support remained limited. The most notable backing came from the Victorian Empire in Australia, a largely Francophone polity that maintained cultural and political affinities with Francia. Victorian leadership argued that the Papacy had failed to provide adequate support or protection to Francia during earlier tensions, and thus aligned itself against the Crusader bloc.
As the conflict expanded, numerous nations chose sides, not purely out of religious conviction, but due to pre-existing rivalries, geopolitical calculations, and strategic alignments. The war thus evolved beyond a strictly theological confrontation and became a broader geopolitical struggle.
At various moments, the United Kingdom offered limited assistance to Francia, motivated in part by its rivalry with the Eastern Roman Empire. Conversely, states such as Israel aligned with the Papacy, influenced by diplomatic tensions and opposition toward Francian policy. These shifting alliances underscored the extent to which the conflict reflected deeper political fractures within the European sphere.
Despite these dynamics, the balance of power at the outbreak of hostilities overwhelmingly favored the Crusader coalition. In terms of declared support, military manpower, and diplomatic recognition, the papal camp significantly outnumbered Francia and its allies. Furthermore, Francia faced widespread economic and diplomatic pressure, including coordinated embargo measures from numerous states, further compounding its isolation at the onset of the war.
During the first days of the conflict, nations such as Spain, the CSA, Minnesota, Pueblo, the Omani Sultane and the Duchy of Izhevsk would all join the Catholic side, with only the Victoria Empire joining the Apostolic Church. Due to all of the pressure, Thanamos abdicated and CorbeauNoireaud took his position. The first raid happened on July 8th and was led by Archbichop Minister_Miong, where the group of 9 crusaders killed animales and generally caused a lot of mayhem.
After the raid, Thanamos came back to the throne and formed the League of Free Nations. Finland, Marie Byrd Land and the Sunbelt Alliance joined the Catholic side and the Victoria Empire left the Francian side. Marie Byrd Land also withdrew from the crusade.
The Battle of Paris
On August 22nd, crusaders gathered at /n spawn France to prepare for one of the biggest battles of EarthMC history: the Battle of Paris. One of EarthMC's biggest armies ever gathered, 30 people, came to Paris and prepared to face the army of just around 10 people. Francia crafted some makeshift traps which killed a considerable amount of players.-Also in this battle Britain's King "Minehero43" was killed by godd1- Surprisingly, the crusaders retreated resulting in a Francia victory.
