The Cascadian Capitol Building, commonly called the Capitol. Capitol Building, or the Cascadian Capitol, is the seat of the Cascadian House of Representatives, the legislature of the Republic of Cascadia. It is located in the north of Olympia proper, between Marathon Park and the Pacific Ocean. The site is property of the national government, managed by the Architect of the Capitol who is responsible for the maintenance, operation, development, and preservation of the overall complex.

The original building was designed by Setrus on March 21, 2023 and completed in-game on April 18, 2023 by himself and HibachiBeamz. In early 2025 during the height of Project Olympia, Moxicodone, the project head, commissioned Setrus to design a plaza expansion, Salish Square, to the south of the original building to be used for proper public gatherings and events, which was then constructed in game by TheeHawaiian.

Two wings, or halls, connected in the center by a rotunda make up a bulk of the capitol complex. In the wings are the offices for the House of Representatives and Architect of the Capitol. The rotunda acts as the House Chamber, with seats for all members of the legislature facing a dais holding seats for the Speaker, House Clerk, and Dean. Ironically there have been almost no instances of legislative sessions within the capitol, instead Discord is favored.

History

Earlier Plans

WIP

Early 2023

On March 10, 2023 a build contest opened for the capitol, applicants had to design a building that fit within a four by four chunk zone on the coast of Olympia. Two applicants submitted similar designs, Setrus proposed a design based on the real life United States Capitol and Washington State Capitol, notably it was intended to be built outside the intended zone instead being built in place of the uncompleted national museum where the building sits today. Arathorn52 proposed a design similar to the Terra Nova Cascadia capitol building, with taller walls and a larger central rotunda. The contest had 23 total votes, with 22 voting for Setrus' design, and as such construction started on April 15 after minor design changes.

The building was infamous for its heavy quartz usage, requiring a nationwide quartz drive and favored deals with Cascadian suppliers. Construction was done primarily by Setrus who then employed HibachiBeamz later on to construct the interior. On April 18, two days into the Presidency of AghastBlock, the capitol was finished and considered usable with its first major use not coming until the presidential inauguration of Setrus and subsequent firework shows on May 21. It is worthy to note that a multi-hour long argument occurred between Setrus and Moxie over the decision of replacing the spruce hedges around the capitol with azalea leaves, Moxie was pro-azalea and Setrus was pro-spruce.

Early 2026 Redesign, Controversy, and Attempted Assassination

On February 3rd, 2026, Setrus drafted a complete redesign for the capitol interior and later the same day construction started. With the support of Flippizzacake, the backing of Olympia Mayor sayerleft, and 500 gold from the Department of the Interior, the capitol interior was gutted and rebuilt within 24 hours with construction officially finishing on the night of February 4th. Hours before the culmination of construction, Olympia City Executive Xeocas showed up on site standing just outside the entrance, staring at the visitors and Setrus. Xeocas quickly became enraged about the redesign of the capitol interior happening without his permission. Conflicting the belief that the Architect of the Capitol and national government had authority over him on capitol grounds, it is recorded that Xeocas said, "If you actually read it [the National Capital City of Olympia Act], you'd see that Olympia has elected to form a more complex form of government and therefore must go through the government processes we have set-out via ordinances. It's Oh so clear." In which Setrus responded, "well ur wrong buckeroo, now let me continue." Soon after Xeocas, as Thurston County, launched a lawsuit against Setrus as well as Flippizzacake, and ka_tie alleging their involvement, although later charges were dropped for the two.

During the morning of February 5th, 2026, fourteen shots rang out from the Alliance Steakhouse on the fourth floor of the capitol. House Speaker Mjap04 was found in critical condition in his booth but the perpetrator was nowhere to be seen. News quickly spread about the violent event with the Associated Counties of Vermont officially putting out a statement alleging that the shooting could be linked to an underground Israeli-Havaiki cabal led by FieryMatter and Xeocas, however as of writing this is considered a conspiracy and there is no official suspect or anyone in custody.

Modern Day

Since its construction, the capitol has been rooted in Cascadian culture, its presence existing in meme and political posters and videos across the years. It has also been the target of several threats by Cascadian adversaries such as the Rocky Mountain Federation, Texas, and California. The town of Bakhmut was made largely with the goal of eventually overclaiming Olympia and the capitol, however failed to do so before the removal of overclaim. During the height of the Great American War, Texan officials stormed the capitol building and considered it under their control, however were soon trapped within after the entrance was sealed.

There have been multiple redesigns and expansions of the capitol complex over the years, including the addition of the Salish Square plaza in 2025 and the 2026 full interior and partial exterior redesign.

Interior

Capitol Rotunda

The Capitol rotunda is the central and main room in the capitol where, in an unorthodox fashion, the Cascadian legislature holds sessions within for the purposes of aura maxxing. On the rotunda floor there are 22 seats for representatives facing a dais with seats for the speaker, clerk, dean, and a reserved seat for any non-voting member such as the President or sponsors. Above, the rotunda is capped by an all-quartz dome based on the real life United States Capitol dome. The base of the dome features Cascadian town banners ordered by historical age of the town, starting with Seattle and moving clockwise from oldest to youngest; this is a tradition held since the construction of the capitol, first appearing on the northern walls of what was a square room below the dome. The fourth floor of the capitol features a railing where the public may look down on legislative sessions. The top of the dome ironically features a rendition of the logo of QT, a joked Cascadian deep state made by pasting the common suffix "QT" of notable Cascadians EstiQT and formally SayerQT, onto the logo of the real life secular fraternal organization, Freemasonry.

East and West Wings

Since there is only one legislative body in Cascadia, the House of Representatives, both wings hold offices for them. Between both of the wings there are 31 rooms total, 28 reserved for representatives including dedicated offices for the Speaker of the House, the House Clerk, and the Architect of the Capitol. On the fourth floor, the west wing holds 2 rooms for miscellaneous use, and the east wing features a customized Alliance Steakhouse location.

Fourth Floor

The highest floors in the capitol building include extra rooms in the west and an Alliance Steakhouse in the east. Visitors may walk outside on the roof of the capitol overlooking the city of Olympia and much of the metro.

Exterior

Salish Square

Included in Salish Square, also called the Capitol Plaza, are five flower gardens separated by five narrow streets that feed into a central roundabout. It is ordained by four Douglas Fir trees, a species notably on the flag of Cascadia, with a stone statue at the center of sayerleft holding the flag with reverence.

Major Events

The Capitol and the surrounding grounds have played host to several events in Cascadian History, including the 10th Presidential Inauguration, various presidential addresses, Freedom Day 2025, the November 2025 Halloween Event, the February 2026 Presidential Debate, the March 2026 Farewell Cascadia Event, and other unofficial events.
