Tijuana (US: /tiːˈhwɑːnə/ tee-HWAH-nə, Spanish: [tiˈxwana]), officially the Autonomous City of Tijuana (Spanish: Ciudad Autónoma de Tijuana) was a hamlet on Terra Aurora in the Baja California region. It was situated on the North shore of the Gulf of California. The town usually had one population but during it's height had 2 population. The town was established on 13 June 2022 and was disbanded on 7 March 2023, lasting for 264 days.

History

Early History

Early planning for Tijuana began shortly following when player BetaPlain moved to Terra Aurora on 6 June 2022. BetaPlain began travelling to North America before finally making contact with player LawOfRence via messaging, before migrating the conversation to discord. BetaPlain was unsure about the location of his new town, but was sure he would create a town on a shoreline. Considerations were made in Asia and British Columbia.

During their conversations, BetaPlain and LawOfRence decided on a final place to create the town of Tijuana, in Northern Baja California. The town's borders would represent the real-life US-Mexico border, and Tijuana would be present on two coastlines.

BetaPlain's chief goal for the town was to achieve a large population, create a shopping district, and create a new nation, similar to his plans for Newburn, his town on Terra Nova. LawOfRence verified Tijuana's future plans would not intersect claims of other Californian towns.

The town's name was chosen based off the future plans for the town to expand Westward into real life Tijuana.

Founding the Town

After planning had finished and a location had been decided, BetaPlain made the decision to start the town on the North shore of the Gulf of California, believing that he would claim Westward when more gold had been deposited into the town bank.

It was at this point that BetaPlain had finalized his plans for the creation of a Baja Soviet Republic. BetaPlain began voting every day until 13 June 2022 when BetaPlain was gifted approximately 21-28 gold by then leader of California Cubs_.

Among the gold donation was a donation of food, an ender chest, diamonds, and potentially a Californian flag. BetaPlain did not place the flag due to his plans to create his own nation.

After recieving the gold donation, BetaPlain founded the town immediately. The town's location was chosen because greater emphasis was placed on claiming Tijuana's planned territory on the North coast of the Gulf of California. One minute after founding the town, BetaPlain accepted an invite from Cubs_ to join the Californian Republic.

Main Building

The town's location already had a farm and a tree placed by an unknown player. BetaPlain made sure to place a sign thanking the player for their developments on the town's territory. It is not known whether this player received this message.

BetaPlain placed the ender chest and constructed a small cobblestone hut around the ender chest. BetaPlain also placed a few chests and later a bed.

First Mine Project

BetaPlain sought to create a large mine to begin mining for ores. BetaPlain made the early decision to avoid buying materials or tools from other nations and instead to prefer producing goods himself. Construction on the mine began and the decision was made to make the entrance to the mine a large staircase. Construction on the mine was canceled on the same day as it was started because a realization was made that the mine would be too long and water from the Gulf of California may slow down the construction process.

Second Mine Project

Following the cancellation of the first mine, a second mine began construction after designs were created in creative mode by BetaPlain. The shaft would be similar to the mineshaft that was present in Newburn on Terra Nova, however it's orignial design plans would differ in that considerations were made for the cost and feasibility of obtaining the materials for the walls of the mineshaft.

The mine was dug out for multiple days until it was finally canceled by BetaPlain due to the amount of time it would take to dig the mine and the fact that the nation of Baja may be founded, making the entire endeavor pointless. Another reason the mine was canceled was the removal of bedrock at Y=0, and the fact that the best spots to find ores was moved lower. This would result in a larger amount of digging, making the motivations to complete the project to become in question.

Discord Server

Eventually, activity in Tijuana dwindled to a nearly inactive state. BetaPlain mostly logged on once a day for a few minutes to vote to reach his goal for creating the Baja Soviet Republic. The slowness of raising gold was intensified by the fact that BetaPlain did not wish to recreate his businesses from Terra Nova to Terra Aurora.

Finally, the most notable developments of Tijuana during this period was the creation of a new discord server, which was planned to be used when the town became the nation capital of Baja.

Disbanding

After the town of Mexicali formed the nation of Baja, the unofficial race to form the nation of Baja ended. With the nation of Baja created by a different town, the motivation to keep the town running had disappeared. On top of this, many towns close to Tijuana had been founded which would block Tijuana's ambitions to claim Northern Baja California.

Considerations were made for the other players on the server who may have wanted to create the town of Tijuana themselves, and BetaPlain found a new location to found a town on the coast of the Hudson Bay. Finally, on 6 March 2023, preparations began to take the sand stockpiles of Tijuana to the location of BetaPlain's new town and to transport other important items such as the ender chest. Tijuana was officially disbanded on 7 March 2023.
