British Columbia, formerly known as the nation Salish, and officially The Province of British Columbia is a Province of the Evergreen Republic situated in the Pacific Northwest region of North America and hosts notable cities, like Seattle. British Columbia has a Parliamentary Direct Democracy government structure that was based off of the government structure of the Salish Confederation, of which it was a canton of prior to the establishment of the Evergreen Republic.
Government
The Government Structure is almost exactly the same as the now defunct Salish Confederation, in order to preserve it's system of government.
Premier
The Premier is the elected head of the Province by the Provincial Parliament once a month. They work alongside Members of Provincial Parliament (MLAs) within Parliament as a fellow peer and also deal with relations with the federal government. The Deputy Premier assists the Premier and works with other Ministers, while also taking over in times of inactivity, or any other situation that was allowed by the Constitution or law. The current Premier is SayerQT since 1 March 2022, elected in the March 2022 British Columbia Provincial Election.
Secretariat
The Provincial Secretariat consists of various task specific Ministers that are appointed by the Chancellor to help run the country. The Parliament regulates them and has the ability to remove them in order for smooth operations within the Province.
Parliament
The population, or the Parliament or Legislative Assembly (alternatively known as the Squpástul) is the unicameral voting body and legislature of the Province. It votes to initiate proposals which allow it to: create and remove laws, impeach Secretariat members, and other duties prescribed by law. Proposed items have four different categories: Standard Law, Territory Expansion/Expulsion, Province Law, and Constitutional Law, as well as other miscellaneous resolutions, as Parliament has the ability to manage the rules of its proceedings. All laws are cataloged within the Journal of the Provincial Parliament.
Circuit Court of Appeals
The Court of Law of the British Columbia Province consists of three judges, and one head judge called the Justice General. These judges are appointed by the Premier every three months with approval of the Parliament, and the Justice General serves a renewable one month term. These citizens must at least reside within the Province for two months prior to being appointed. Judges of the Court can not be a part of the Secretariat, but can be MPs or Mayors. The court's duties are to interpret law and the Constitution of the Province and the Evergreen Republic and apply them to cases. It can appeal to the Federal Judiciary of the Evergreen Republic.
Judges of the Court of Law can be impeached and removed from office by the Parliament for the Constitutional definitions of Abuse of Power and Incompetence with a 60% majority. If an impeachment is successful, the Premier would then appoint with Parliament approval a new judge that will serve until the end of the impeached judge’s term.
The Court may decide to dismiss frivolous or trivial cases with a legal reason given with a unanimous vote, though the Parliament can override this with a 2/3rds vote.
History
Before British Columbia became a Canton, it was the nation known as Salish which was founded on the 9th of February, 2020, by Vorobyevite. The nation renamed to British Columbia on the 1st of October 2020.
For the longest time, there was no distinction between British Columbia and the Nation of Salish, they were one in the same, and British Columbia had no Cantonal government. This changed however on September 12th, 2021 when SayerQT formed the first Cantonal government and established local rule. The Federal capital was Seattle, until the 1st Amendment to the Salish Constitution was passed, abolishing the Federal capital in favor of Cantonal capitals. This however, doesn't prevent strong feeling of the de facto Capital being Seattle for the Salish Confederation.
